From the kayak I got a normal single white navigation light that’s on a 70cm tube that folds down when not In use.
also got a few led button lights to light up the deck space when unhooking a fish and 2 4inch flood lights which help bring in squid and baitfish when gathering bait.

The mullet point is indeed very correct, I’ve had them hit the side of the kayak and even inside of it. Quite startling when you’d be relaxing on the river. Dead quite, no jet skis just crickets then you hear a mighty splash meters away.

That is my idea too, no jet skis there seems to be a jet skier who loves racing up and down the channel with no consideration for others. I have a white navigation light battery operated and on a piece of PVC pipe, also a good head torch. Thanks for the reply.

  2. Thinking about nighttime fishing at The Entrance. What lights does everyone use, I know kayaking at night to carry a torch. I have set up my Watersnake and sounder with batteries so I have plenty of spare power to run a LED light.

    Thanks, Norm

  3. I thinking about purchasing a Watersnake motor with a 50ah AGM battery. Looking at a person in the caravan park on the weekend he had a battery in a box and written on the box PWM.He said that the 50ah gave him about 5hrs.

My kayaking fishing is on Tuggerah Lakes for about 3hrs fishing and the motor is just for ease.  thanks, norm.

  4. Came down to Windang and stayed in the Windang Tourist Park. Arrived on Monday and staying for 2weeks, went out in the kayak twice, no luck with the fishing however on Saturday night whilst asleep someone came under the awning of the caravan and stole my 2 spinning rods and stuffed up the whole trip.

  5. I have been following Hairtail fishing on their site and some people are cooking at the rear of the boat on a small gas canister stowe. Has anyone ever done this and what are the hazards like going to the big fishing place in the sky? It has got me curious how there do it.

  6. Love the photos, you can't help bad manners. I had just got married and about a year later took my new son to the parents at Coffs Harbour. I also took a mate and we went spearfishing off the Breakwater the wife was sitting on the rocks. We were about 100 yards off the breakwater when I swam done and speared two leatherjacks in a small cave. The water was very clear and when I turned around there was a 10ft tiger shark approaching me, I surfaced and yelled out to my mate SHARK and then swam to the breakwater. My wife said she knew something was wrong as I was walking on the water. I had been spearing fishing for many years, I sold my gear and never went back in. Your photos take me back however the sharks do like seals.

If you are on a budget another option would be a second hand Steelite if you can find one that spins well.

Note that the Steelite will not be able to be turned for casting like some Alvey's can.

If you are flush with cash look at an Alvey 475CP, Okuma Aventa VT-1002 or a Tempo. All are terrific centrepins.

Amongst some old fishing gear left by my father-in-law there is a Steelite reel in various sizes.

  8. I have lost or missed placed my black fishing gear.

While at The Entrance 2 months ago, my landing net was stolen and I think my blackfish gear or it is in my boat. I am at The Entrance now and whilst packing the caravan could not find my gear.  The rig was a  Jarvis Walker Black Queen rod with an Avley blackfish reel.

I have a Wilson Blackfish rod waiting at BCF when I get back, what type of reel should go on the rod?

The sad part about all of this is to replace the Alvey which had a  floating line.

    Thanks, Norm

  9. The moisture was on the cabin roof, if I open the front hatch about 1"  Also, the rear clear rolled up about halfway It was when I woke up in the morning the sleeping bag was slightly damp and the roof of the cabin was wet my sleeping bag is  - 15 degrees so I will still be warm.

    Thanks for the replies.

  10. Went out hairtail fishing in my new second-hand boat, this boat replaced my old crest cutter of 30yrs. The new boat has clears all around and can seal the weather out really well however I found condensation forming the in the cabin.

Any ideas about stopping this, I think I will have to let in some air to compensate for the temperature inside and out.

  11. Just getting back into hairtail fishing after 3yrs. I bought a hairtail kit from Eastwood and have lost the sinkers and trebles that came with the kit. The kit has a float EVA3 and uses barrel sinkers and the trebles have been used or lost.

The question is what treble do people use rang the shop and he said a 6 or 4. With the float, I know it is trial and error by setting up and floating it to see, but I want to set it up before I go. Will have enough of SWMB saying it is freezing. The line I will be using is a 10lb braid and a fluorocarbon leader.

Any suggestion would be helpful as the old memory is going at 77yrs of what I did 3yrs ago.

    thanks, norm

  12. I have just bought a fishing kayak and have it set up. Going to The Entrance next week to try it out instead from the bank, now what other suggestions for keeping fish other than a keeper net?

    thanks norm
