  1. Hi Spizza, I have only ever fished on Coogee or Maroubra. Simple rig, 12lb mono, bigish sinker to a swivel then a 2ft leader to hook. Have been catching flatties, bream and Taylor. Cheers.
  2. Hi Stan, Nope, tried the South side just before the rocks and then the North side by the building you suggested on the map I uploded on an earlier post.
  3. Thanks. Most times I have been on Maroubra its been a bit windy with a fair amount of surf and I have no idea to work out where any gutters or holesmight be, there doesnt seem to be much difference in how the surf breaks along the beach. Other than casting and working out where the gutters are by where fish are biting how else would you tell? Cheers, D
  4. Hello all, Firstly I have only been fishing for a few months. Had a couple of fruitless nights on Maroubra despite a high tide around sunset, not even a nibble. I was using the same rig and bait that has previously proved successfull on Maroubra. Now firstly, I know that I wont catch fish every time I go out but are there other conditions that I should be looking at before I venture out? I guess the only things that I look for are ideally a high tide around sunset and not oo much wind. Also, other than the obvious logistics of there being less water/depth around at low tide, is low tide still worthwhile to fish if for example the beach your on slopes down quickly and therefore you have enough depth? Thanks raiders, DingoDave
  5. Look forward to it matey, let me know. Re setup, using a 9ft 2 piece surf rod and just bought a new baitrunner reel today as my starter reel has got a bit too sandy! (http://www.anglerswarehouse.com.au/product_detail.asp?productnospaces=shimano_baitrunner_3500b_284) with a 13lb line. D
  6. Got soaked on Friday and caught nothing Stan!!! You didnt miss out!
  7. All good, come down if you can, getting bored on my own!
  8. '(you must never speak of this again)' - hehe, birlliant.
  9. Hi Stan, i'll give it a go tonight. Just went to the tackle shop by QVB and they showed me how to tie a paternoster. Please see pic attached. The yellow arrow is where I fished last time in the south of the beach just before the rocks. I had not luck at all working out where the deeper parts were nor could I see any difference in where the waves were breaking, It'll be dark when I get there tonight so would prefer to stay off the rocks but have any other parts of the beach been more productive for you than others? Cheers, D
  10. Cheers stan for your advice as always, Why would I even use a leader? I assumed that the star sinker would attach to the end the line and then there would be one (40cm) dropper about 50cm up? Cheers, David
  11. Hi all, I am going again for a few hours tonight at Maroubra looking for the usual edible suspects (Bream, Trevally, Tailor etc) and would like a bit of advice. I have only ever used a simple rig of; line with sinker>swivel>40cm leader to hook (I am sure there will a name for this simple setup?) As the beach nearly alwsys seem to have a reasonable surf I use a pretty hefty bean sinker to keep it near the bottom and to enable me to cast out far enough. I was wondering if I should try a different setup, say a paternoster rig with 2 hooks? I have looked at a few videos on this rig and in all honesty I still cant work out how to build the rig but wondered what your thoughts would be about the use of this setup on the beach? Thanks guys, DingoDave p.s Also, I have never used berly of any kind, should I be off the beach and if so what would you suggest trying?
  12. Hello Fishraiders, been sitting at my desk thinking about a couple of hours fishing off one of the eastern suburb beaches after work tonight if anyone fancies joining me? Cheers, DingoDavid
  13. Just reading back on all the advice here and realised that I had not thanked you all for such detailed replies which I really do appreciate. I am fishing Maroubra tonight so will some of your advice. Thanks again, Dingo David
  14. Thanks Gav, appreciate your advice. I am actually going to give Maroubra a go tonight. I have absolutely no idea how I would identify where the gutters are and as I only really fish after work I am often arriving in partial or total darkness? Cheers, David
  15. Good work Stan, real shame I missed it. David
  16. Swwet, In all honesty if I go myself I probably wont do the rocks just off the beach. Buy the missus some flowers mate and get you arse down there!
  17. Hello gang, I'm planning on a few hours landbased on Maroubra this evening from about 7pm and wondered if anyone else is up for it? High tide is around sunset!!! Cheers, David
  18. Hey Stan, just wanted to make sure that I had suggested Thursday not last night. Anyway, how did it go last night?
  19. Cool, i'll pm you my details now. I have rock boots but have done very little rock fishing so I will need to follow your lead if thats cool?
  20. Hey Stan, I'm fairly inexperienced but if you want some company on Thursday after work I was already planning to check out Maroubra. I live in coogee, let me know if youre interested and I can PM you my details. . . . .Cheers, David
  21. Sorry to broadcast this but I know MONDO forgets to check his pm's!
  22. Thanks for the info Gav, much appreciated. I have a couple of questions. RE Blackfish, can I ask why a) you suggest to use a fluro carbon trace and why you would use a 1m trace? RE Maroubra, the beach is so big I never know where to start. I actually asked a lifesaver and he pointed out that near the buildings there are a few poles with danger signs pointing to the ocean. He said these are where the rips are and are good places to fish, do you agree? Thanks, David
  23. Hey Andy, I get home to coogee for about 6.15 most nights but I cant do Wednesday. I could do Thursday maybe from about 6.30pm? I will PM you my number and email which might be easier moving on.
  24. Hi Andy, sure mate but I ideally want to fish weekday evenings afer work for a couple of hours if you are interested? D
