    Excellent advice, many thanks. Ironically, a week ago I caught 3 x 35cm Tailor from the middle of coogee beach. I havent really fished the extreme north/south ends as I always worry about getting snagged on rocks but I will defo give it a try. So for the rocks on the South end you walk on the wall of the man made pool and just follow the rocks round south for 50m?

    In all honesty I dont really know enough about fishing to decide what to target, I am a recent newbie! I guess I am location driven at the moment as I live in Coogee really close to the beach. I ideally want to catch fish to eat.

    I do have rock boots but as I am so inexperienced I would be concerned about rock fishing without being with someone more experienced.

    Hello guys, I dont seem to be having any luck at the moment on Coogee beach (not even a nibble last night!)

    Is anyone else having better luck on any of the other eastern suburb beaches? I am not asking for anyones 'secret' spots but is anyonme noticing that any of the Eastern beaches are more productive than others at the moment?

    Also, if you guys are fishing in a certain spot on a beach, generally, how long do you wait without a bite before you move to another spot? I am happy to be patient but by the same toekn I dont want to waste precious time.

    *** NB *** I am also really keen to hook up with people who fish weekday evenings on the Eastern beaches.

    I am looking to catch anything edible.

    Thanks Hodgey, I will grab the guide asap. FWhen you suggested the guide I thought perhaps I may have had too many and they were to small but they were all 30cm or slightly over and I had three. That guide will be very useful.

    The Hunter valley - recommendations

    Hello Gang,

    Need a bit of advice. I am going to the Hunter valley for the first time tomorrow (with the folks who are visiting from the UK) and I am staying near Broke in the South of the valley. Wondered if any of you fine folk have any good lake/river recommendations in the area? I am happy to fish for anything edible.

    Thanks guys for the advice. I am a real novice at this (only got my first rod'n'reel last month) so there is some terminology in your posts that I am going to have to look up. i.e I have no idea what a paternoster is!!! but thanks again for taking the time to reply. A couple of chaps have already offered to take me out beach fishing in the Eastern Suburbs to show me the ropes which is brilliant. I am really please I found this site, loads of really freindly and helpful people who dont turn their noses up up new guys like me who genuinely want to learn.

    Hi Guys,

    A question for all you land based fisherman (or fisherwomen)

    I am only really fishing beaches (in the Eastern suburbs) at the moment which I am enjoying. I have read lots of posts on this forum where people have discussed where on certain beeches they fish. The advice often seem to discuss fishing the gutters and holes and that these will be the most productive places. Now this definitely makes sense to me but I want to ask how you know where the deeper parts are on a beach? (other than doing a Scuba trip!!)

    Is it trial and error? Do these things shift around?

    Any advie would be really appreciated.

    Thanks mate seems like a super friendly and helpful community in here where is brilliant as I need all the help I can get. Does anyone fancy a couple of hours today around high tide (5.30pm) somewhere around the eastern suburbs? Cheers. David

    I was told by an old boy on the beech that it was a Bream then another fisherman told me it was a trevally so I have no idea!!

    It was bloody delicious, oven baked with soy, lime, garlic, chilli. Its the first fish that I have caught, killed, descaled, gutted, cook and eaten which I am kind of proud of!

    Great, thanks for the advice. much appreciated. Do you ever fish in the evenings off the beaches? Also, how do you know where on say Maroubra beach is the best place to fish? I appreciate that this may depend on what fish I would like to catch but any of the edible species would appeal. Maybe once I have caught a few different fish i'll form more of an opinion on which species I favour.

    I am using a simple setup of a 9 ft rod with a weight, swivel and hook. Is this the go? (sorry if I have crap terminology!)

    Hello all, just wanted to say a quick hello to everyone here as I have just joined the forum.

    I'm David, originally from London, 37 years old and have been fishing less than 10 times in my life. My birthday was in January and my girlfriend bought me my first rod, reel, rock boots and a few bits.

    We live in Coogee in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney and after a couple of fishing trips with a mate (the rocks last Sunday during the day at Watsons Bay and on Monday night off Coogee beach after dark) I think I may be getting the bug. I am not desperate to fish for anything in particular but I would like to catch something edible.

    I am hoping to find local fisher-pals who may be up for a spot of after work mid week fishing within the Eastern suburbs.

I actually caught a couple of small fish off the beach with cheered me up!

    I am hoping that the kind souls of this forum may from time to time, offer me a bit of advice. I have looked through older threads but cant see much that really recent.

    Right now I am hoping to find any decent spots around the Eastern beaches (Maroubra to Bondi) where there may be any nice rock ledges where you can fish into the blue and not worry so much about snagging on rocks? Or any Jetty's or similar. I am not fishing for anything in particular but I would like to catch something that is good to eat.

    Hoping to spend a few hours after work one evening each week . . . . . .
