  1. Hi all, I managed to knock off on time today so had 35min of daylight up the sleeve and a little river nearby was calling. I managed 2 fish with another 2 dropped, so not too bad. anybody got any advice on cleaning water drops off the lens in the field without damaging the lens? Cheers Col.
  2. Great Fish, love those blurters. Wish I could get one that big. Cheers col.
  3. Great stuff with the flounder. Thats something I've been periodically trying to do for some time. I know there are plenty of flounder where I try as I've seen them and even caught them in an aquarium net when doing squid collecting dives but as yet no luck in catching them. Cheers col.
  4. Yesterday morning I headed out to the local river for some more stream trout. The bright conditions, late start and very low water levels were always going to make it hard. Nonetheless i saw quite a few fish including some big ones but they just weren't that keen and very spooky. I managed just three fish and all were little tackers. I did learn that I need to avoid soft muddy bottoms and eddys when taking underwater shots. Cheers Col.
  5. Great session there bloodknot. Those sandworms are great lures, well done for sticking with it. Cheers col.
  6. Good stuff Mick. The first of many I'm sure. Open the floodgates. Col.
  7. Well done on the PB and the first. Looks like a glorious day to be out even if the fish weren't to keen to play. Cheers Col.
  8. Good work Crystallizer. Sounds like a great session and top report. Cheers col.
  9. Best of luck for the future, hope all went well today. Congrats. Cheers col.
  10. Hope you don't mind me answering this one (bored at work). Both are fish but thats about it. Different families. Redfin Perca fluviatilis are in Percidae, whereas river blackfish Gadopsis marmoratus are in Percichthyidae and luderic Girella tricuspidata (blackfish) are in Kyphosidae. Clear as mud??? Cheers Col.
  11. great stuff, sounds like an action packed session. It amazes me how softly those trevs will hit a lure and yet how hard they go when hooked. cheers col.
  12. Nice one, love those suburban trout. Very dark fish that one. Cheers col.
  13. Brings back memories of going down there with a non fishing mate (mid/late 90s I reckon). Walking along the weir he sees all the fish on the downstream side and casts out down there, I tell him to cast off the upstream side (we were after bass) and he asks why if the fish are all downstream. First cast is chased by two nice bass which miss the lure but splash both of us when they hit at the rod tip. Made my point nicely. He went on to score 4 nice bass that sesh. Not a bad start to a bass career. But we were kicked out by the ranger later on and further upstream. Cheers col.
  14. 1. I'd like a kingy on my sydney holiday (don't like my chances though). 2. I want a river/stream brown trout of over 60cm to fork (58.5cm is top so far for a stream brownie). Cheers Col.
  15. Thanks fellas. It really is a nice spot on the upper Liffey even if the fishing isn't fantastic it makes up for it with scenery. Unfortunately I kept unhooking the fish before trying the underwater shots and they'd escape before I got a shot off. For the last one i left the hook in but its really hard to frame and focus by guessing (hence the out of focus and noseless shots), I'm sure it'll come with practise. Gives me another excuse to go fishing. Cheers Col.
  16. With a bit of extra time on my hands, I'd planned a large river or lake yak attack for yesterday but the gale force winds kinda killed that idea. Instead I headed to a pretty little stream that flows through some temperate rainforest and was the scene of my first tassie trout capture. Here is the pool that gave me my first tassie trout. Yesterdays ocupant: A bit more scenery: I did catch a few fish too. Biggest was only in the high 30s though. I was also keen to try some underwater shots, but I reckon I need some practise with that caper, jeez it makes your hands cold. Cheers Col.
  17. Ankle deep for the most part but it does have deeper bits (waste deep) here and there. Cheers Col.
  18. I guess you'll just have to make do with bass, bream, flatties and jewies (I could keep this list going for a while I reckon). I wish I lived on the coast. Cheers Col.
  19. All these recent reports of "backyard" action motivated me to check out a tiny stream even closer to home than my recent north esk sessions. Its more of a stormwater drain really but does hold small trouties. My best from this stream is just 42cm but todays were just a 30ish fish that fell off as I retrieved my camera and this tiny little fella. Not exactly a pristine waterway but its very close to home. Cheers Col.
  20. Sounds like an action packed session. Those harbour bays seem to be really firing ATM, hopefully still will be in a few weeks. Well done on the first too. Cheers Col.
  21. Nice little session there. Good stuff. Love those little bass streams and associated surface action. Cheers Col.
  22. You're a lucky man indeed to have fishing like that in your backyard. Good to see you making the most of it. Nice fishies. Cheers col.
  23. Nice session there. Nice flatties, well done. That bay has certainly gone from strength to strength in the last few years. A great adverisement for rec. havens. That HC bream was a nice one too. cheers Col.
  24. Hi all, At present I am in need of some decent photos of some squid. After a couple of failed attemptsat getting photogenic subjects more locally I decided to bite the bullet on saturday and head down to my old study site on the east coast. Unfortunately as I suspected I was a little early in the season and as I had to be at work at 4:30pm 2hrs away, I didn't even get to fish the prime dusk period. Consequently I got zip. The highlight was playing about with some toothbrush leatherjackets which were attacking my squid jig but which proved impossible to hook on anything I threw at them. Also had a visit from a friendly local as I packed up to leave. Nevertheless I reaquainted myself with a lovely part of the state and had a nice drive. After this poor showing though I had to duck out for a quick sesh this arvo after work and managed one tiny trout from a stream near work. Cheers Col.
