  1. An interesting point Reely, I too was surprised by the number of FADS suddenly missing.I have worked as a Navigating Deck Officer on both container and bulk carriers.Yesterday there were 3 large bulk carriers drifting within the general area of the Nth Sydney FAD, although in ballast these ships can draw a draft in excess of 10 metres and just drifting over a buoy that size is enough to destroy or break them loose. Vessels that size are often ordered to drift by their owners or charters rather than anchor to avoid demurrage and port costs.Ive got my money on the bulkies as the culprits. Tight Lines
  2. Thanks there Reely Have to rethink the plans. Reports of Snapper on the reefs so might head there. Regards
  3. I was hoping to head to the Nth Sydney FAD tomorrow but the Dept has reported it as missing. If anyone has any further knowledge about it would be appreciated Anyone seen it today. Hoping I can still get out there amongst the dollies. Tight lines
  4. Headed out from PITTWATER trolling the usual hard plastics past the Basin on the way to West Head for some yakkas hoping we might pick up some Kingies on the way.The beasts were there and hungry chasing bait fish around at the south of the headland . Got one good hook up but after a spiriterd fight and full run he was off and back to fight another day.Got a dozen Yakkas (West head never seems to to let us down) then headed out towards the FAD but decided the Stheaster was strenghtening too quickly so headed back to Junos to try our luck for some of the Jewies reported to be hanging around there. Caught a good size Rock cod and plenty of Tailor and Hammerhead but no Jewies. Trolled back to the basin for a flattie drift , picked up a good sized Salmon,a Kingie and a good plate sized Flounder. Not a great day but some variety at least Heading out tomorrow hoping to get to the FAD this time.
  5. Well done Brett and Steve. Great yft but shame about the Mako Must have been some buzz to see him jump like that. John
  6. Hi Mondo Ill need to take your question about the lure on advisement as a mate gave it to me as a present when he went o/s but its been the best of all those Ive tried. The best I can do till then is post a snap of the lure for you. We trolled out from Barren Joey L/H to close to Broken Bay Wide at 8-10knots(hoping to attract a marlin) it took about an hour.Do you know what the best trolling speed for Marlin is I heard you need at least 10kts and 12 is even better. cheers
  7. Set off Tuesday to hunt the YFT on the shelf but was wary of what was looking to become an uncertain sea and swell. As we trolled from Pittwater the lures were quickly taken by some tailor close to the marina berths. As we headed around Barrenjoey Hd both lures went off with two good size Salmon soon landed. The swell and sea state were rising and freshening so we decided to continue to troll the area and leave the yft to another day. The sea was boiling with salmon. We quickly landed another two and then they disappeared. The departure of squawking birds indicated they were no longer around and we headed back to Flint and Steel wide to see again the flocks of birds. We quickly landed another three smaller salmon.Having never caught a salmon,I was impressed with the great fight they put up, even jumping out of the water when close to the boat. We kept 3 and released the others. Not a great eating fish but the dog will love her fish meal tonight.
  8. Well done guys Ive been waiting to hear the YFT were about again. Will try to get out amongst them with some raiders soon and see if we can fill the freezers too goodstuff and great report
  9. Happy Birthday Haraka Yeh I can take a picture of the lure posting it proves more difficult though. Still trying to work out how to download it as attachment. I tried sending 3 photos yesterday but only one got thru. anyway have a good one 86years of eating toxin fish keeps you strong and fit cheers
  10. Was going to ignore you at first but others havent so wont either. The NSW legal size of Kingfish is 60cm.Both fish were over 60cm.Pull your head in Pal
  11. Hi Haraka, I think Ive used the right terminology. The lure stays below the surface and doesnt break above the water. Correct me if Im wrong with the name of them but I was told they were referred to as "underwater or deep water lures" The shot was taken this morning ( Saturday the day after in the backyard).Yep the garden is a cliff face The V cut was alousy attempt to bleed him
  12. Yeh Brett One just 62cms and the other 68cms .Having them on the barbie tonight. Might break out some of our yellow fin steaks to go with them. Yum,Yum
  13. Having problems sending picture. Im sending as attachment but not comming up Ill keep trying
  14. Set off Friday on a perfect winter's day, smooth sea ,cloudless blue sky and mild temperatures. It had to be a great day whether we caught the target schnapper at the reefs off Broken Bay or not. We decided we'd troll out as the'd been reports some salmon and taylor were about. Rigged up two lines both with deep diving lures and headed along east Pittwater foreshore .Both lines were quickly hit and after a determined struggle landed 2 decent Kingy's. and I thought they were rare in July. Great to think they are still here and in maligned Pittwater as well The reefs proved disappointing Leatherjackets kept the stay there very short. Returned trolling and another good hit west of Barrenjoey but lost it at the side of the boat. Here is a picture of the larger Kingy
  15. yeah The adrenaline rush when the kingie takes off. Man what a feeling!!!! Hoodlums, brutes, thugs the're all muscle, pure fighting machines. Wahoo!!! Bring on the beasts!!!
