    Now I'm confused! Which transducer?

    So now I'm really confused.... As per a previous post, I snapped my transducer form the Lowrance HDS 5. I thought it would be simple to replace, anyhow my question is which transducer to buy??? Lowrance recommended the 83/200 based on my fishing mainly rivers and a few km offshore - mainly Port Hacking/Botany Bay/ off Ulladulla. (I have a Quintrex 475 Coastrunner.) But, reading on the internet, a lot of posts recommend the 50/200 which is better in deeper water. Any 'layman's terms' advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Broken transducer

    Thank you for your prompt advice and suggestions, I'll look at ordering a new transducer! I have no idea how it happened although the boat was anchored quite shallow and I'd say with some boat swell it's lodged into the sand. Thanks again!

    Hi! Had a great day on the water on the weekend, coming back to the ramp heard knocking and found I had snapped the plastic casing of the transducer. Not the 'handiest' of people but can follow instructions...I would greatly appreciate any advice on what to do...

    Is ulladulla firing up?

    Hey Jake,

    I put up a week or so ago..... Flathead are definitely on! Big tigers too! A local told me to just go straight out from the harbour, line up Ulladulla lighthouse and pigeon house mountain so that they are both the same height, and drop your baits! We went a little deeper, started at 40m and drifted out to 50m, fish were bigger as we got deeper. At 48m I hit gold, double hook ups of solid fish...all on pilchards and a snapper snatch paternoster rig. I saw a lot of boats at the cleaning table, some good snapper and morwong from the reefs but a lot of barracouta as well. I hope this helps and good luck!! It is a beautiful part of the world....

    Flatties galore!

    With the task of feeding 6 adults and 7 children, decided to target flathead in 40m off Ulladulla. With 2 others, started off at about 7am, armed with pilchards and squid. Fished paternoster rigs, drifting from 35m to 50m. Well, the squid remained untouched but the pilchards did all the damage. In a few short hours, 13 fat flathead up to a 2kg beauty! That night, a dozen oysters, a kilo of prawns, 26 flathead fillets and a few craft beers....aaaah! Great to see fisheries checking catches as well! f5a1c4577d8c889852c0c4eb063c35fa.jpg

    I've caught some nice bream land based at Conjola. Not sure of streets etc, but if you park at the Bottle Shop, walk right (as you're facing the river) along the grass about 100m or so. Fish as light as possible, maybe small pieces of pilchard, keep the area tidy and watch out for kangaroos!!

    Botany Bay last night

    Well, after taking countless amounts of children out in the boat during the school holidays, last night was man night and the first time I'd had the boys in my boat and at night. With the boys, quality craft beer (Riverside) and 3 family pizzas on board, we stocked up on bait at Macs and anchored just off Towra about 7pm. Fished there for awhile with live nippers and prawns, lots of baby snapper and caught one nice trevally. Wind dropped so anchored near The Drums, caught my biggest whiting (38cm) and a few legal bream and snapper. Also the world's biggest toad, shovel nose shark and and some Port Jackson's. Was a great night, quality conversation and a few fish! Happy days.....

    Does a mandatory marine radio have to be fixed?

    Thanks again! I would love to support a site sponsor but with work and family commitments and where I live, it's too difficult to get up to Huett Marine. The person I'm looking at is mobile as well... I know about the licence and did see you can do it online and then go for the test, so will do that as well. Can you go offshore legally with a handheld VHF? Cheers!

    Thanks Erroll, the fish wasn't wasted! Delicious! Ace, I have fished Conjola for many years with varying success but this trip was by far the best! The irony, majority of fish were caught on my nieces pink $29 rods and my daughters $21 special that is about 60cm in length. Love Summer.....
