  1. Thanks Gary - really good advice there. Sounds like a good plan. Hopefully the wind doesn't kick up too much. I was wondering about using divers around the headlands. I trolled from botany to maroubra once with a range of deep divers out and didn't get a hit. I haven't heard too much about using divers from people on this forum though - are they a decent bet?
  2. I was looking to get out this weekend for Fin but given the 20knt westerlies predicted I thought this may be a bit too much for my 6.5m centre console 40kms from shore. I am pretty new to Sydney (from Coffs) but I was thinking of maybe working the cliffs south of South Head. Will this be a good strategy? Are there still kings around at all and what would be my best approach? Otherwise I was thinking of just peppering the cliffs with metals aiming for some tailor and salmon? Thoughts? JT
  3. Any news? I am hoping to get out amongst it over the next couple of weeks
  4. Great fish mate!! I really need to change our annual port Stephens family holiday to this time in the year rather than December!!! "....because the fishing is better" doesn't seem wash with the extended family of non-fishers!
  5. What are people thinking about this sunday? Anyone got any insight into how the water is looking wide? Browns?
  6. That looks like some really nice 23-24 degree water and a good temp break straight out the front?
  7. Cracker whiting! Such a shame about the Jew! Fishing can hurt so bad sometimes!
  8. Thanks for the tip but I am in North maroubra but my street is too narrow and boat too long! I am very keen to try the stones around so I might have to give the south side a try for drummer. Surely must be a few good bream around too I imagine.
  9. http://www.############/itm/Moulded-UV-Stabilised-Folding-Padded-Boat-Seat-Tinnie-Fishing-Ski-Camping-4WD-/260860714148?pt=AU_Boat_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cbc829ca4 One suggestion i can add from my kayak fishing days is to get a therma rest pillow from a camping store to sit on (with a seat of course). Really does the trick.
  10. Yeah that is a great idea. I think i will try and do that this weekend. I am hoping someone will come through with good local option soon though.
  11. Yeah I trolled past that section with hardbodies. Looks like very good ground with a nice deep drop off (quite quickly to 20m) I'll be going back there for sure with some livies. Where is the good spots to get yakkas/slimies in botany bay? Can you just put a sabiki down or do you need to burley?
  12. Yeah that's right. When the boat ramp is done kurnell will be a great place to launch from. Still 40 mins from my place but at least I'm getting on the water which is the main thing!
  13. Mate, it seems sapace is a premium down here. None of the self storage places around here will do outdoor space for boats because they don't have any space. You actually need to rent a unit and my boat won't fit in them!
  14. I have just moved to Maroubra in Sydney and can’t park the boat on my street. I have had to park it now in Kurnell with High n Dry. Barry has a really good facility there, the only issue is the distance for me. It is really an hour and a half before I can get the boat on the water and that just doesn’t work for me. I would really like to find somewhere I can park it in anywhere in the East/Southern suburbs. The overall dimensions with the trailer is about 8.5m long, 3.3 high and 2.5wide (Bluewater 2150 Centre Console). I have done my research and I have found the following: - South Sydney AFA - $350 for the year plus membership but there is a pretty long waiting list (haven’t been able to confirm this) - All Car Storage in Mascot - $325 pm I have also put a wanted add up on Gumtree. If there are any other options out there could you guys please let me know. Driving past the Port Botany boat ramp 10 mins from home and knowing I still have over an hour before I can be on the water is a little demoralising! Also, if anyone is willing to rent me a driveway or some kind of outdoor storage in the area, please let me know. Cheers JT
  15. Had my first session out in Sydney on the weekend so I thought I would post up my experience. I am a Fishnet user but I am keen to get to know you guys here and there is a lot more Sydney fishing talk on this forum compared to Fishnet. I have moved to Sydney from Coffs, and although its obviously going to be different from fishing Coffs harbour, my level of anticipation was buoyed by the recent reports of good kings, salmon and tailor about On the road at 5am to drive from my place in Maroubra to Kurnell where the boat is being kept (I am still yet to find any alternative parking for the boat nearby as it is over the 7.5m mark). Driving past the amazing facilities at port botany was heartbreaking. Another 30 mins before I even hook the boat up. Found a servo with bait on the way. Got the boat (Barry has a great facility there in Kurnell) and headed to Sylvania waters and put in. Easy launch although the ramp is quite narrow for a two lane. No problems though. Headed to Bare Island (on the tips of people here) and my brother, who is not much of a fisho, got a nice Southern Calimari (I think). Fairly sizeable model. Got it on a slow retrieve. Nothing more from there though. Couldn’t find any bait around so, put on the redhead laser pro and bonito halco xrap and trolled the northern head and the edges to Maroubra. Nothing. Had a look at a couple of gravel patches off south Maroubra before anchoring off the heads there and setting a burley trail. Put out a couple of pillie floaters and a paternoster over a bit of good ground hoping to bring in some resident bream. Got a tiny reef fish but nothing else. Headed back in from there. Had a look at the retaining wall at the port where there was about 15 boats anchored. Seems as though they were anchored on the edge of the dredging lines. Didn’t see anyone pull anything up. Motored back to ‘the hole in the wall’ at Sylvania realising I have a lot to learn about fishing in Sydney. Sorry no photos but will make sure I post some up next time. JT
  16. I am not sure you are going to get an M260 in-hull to fit. You will have to check the dimensions, but i couldn't get one to fit into my bilge area. I went with a B164 and it is pretty amazing. Install wasn't really that expensive. a couple of hours at the most. Honestly though the TM260/m260 are better transducers and they are not much more expensive. If you can get either to fit you will be happy. Heaps of trailer boats have the TM260 as that is what they were designed for.
  17. Yeah boat and trailer is 8.5. That is pretty brutal. Ill just have to find someone to let me park it in their driveway maybe. Sydney would not be the easiest place to own a boat in!!
  18. Guys, I am going to be spending a week or so in Sydney between Christmas and new years. I'll have my boat and want to park it somewhere. I will be in Maroubra. What do people do about parking their boats on the street. I have seen a few around Sydney just parked in local parking spots. Is this legal. My boat a 6.5m centre console but full trailer length would be close to 8 metres. Is it legal to park this on the street? I am thinking of using a coupling lock and possibly a motorcycle chain through one of the wheels for security. Tips? JT
  19. That thing is outrageous!
  20. How do you reckon this would go?
  21. Some really nice specimens there!!
  22. Just for a laugh, I thought I would start a thread and ask people what boat (a fishing platform and not some crazy racing boat) would be the fastest at getting to Browns on a 'decent' Sydney day i.e. 2-3ft swell, 5-10knot southerly etc.? Experience and funny stories appreciated
