  1. Thanks everyone for the replies! Andy, I think I will just put the reels in my check-in luggage. I shouldn't have any troubles that way. Pete, Yeah i'm going to take a rod travel tube. I will be dropping off a board bag at oversized luggage so the rod tube can go with those. SydAngler, One $200 popper, or a months worth of Bintangs ... thats any easy choice lol! I think the $20 dollar Halcos will have to do. I have a couple a Strada's as well. They look pretty awesome! I think I will def get some big soft plastics though! Tom, where can I buy Jerkshads on the Northern Beaches or North Shore? Any specific colours? And fishing low tide sounds good cause then it won't cut into my surfing time! Andy351, thats what I thought about the line on reels. It does seem ridiculous! I wonder if anyone has ever used braided fishing line to create havok on a plane lol? Burnsy74, are Jershads stickbaits? Thanks again guys for the advice. Its making me even more keen to get there and get amongst the fish! I've been watching Swordfisherman's Bali GT videos on YouTube - pretty inspiring. And I will def let you know how I go over there. Ben
  2. Hi Raiders, In a couple of weeks I am heading over to Indonesia. It will mostly be a surfing trip, however, I am really excited to take some fishing gear this time. I will be throwing some poppers from the reefs and beaches in East Java to (hopefully) catch a GT! I just wanted to know if anyone had some tips for this kind of fishing and what poppers will give me the best chance of catching a fish? I have a few Halco Roosta poppers in the 135 and 195 size in different colours. Also what are the best tides/times to target GTs? Lastly, I will be flying Garuda, does anyone know if I can take fishing reels on the plane in my carry on luggage? I have been to Indonesia many times and have never fished over there (which feels like a waste of opportunities), so I am very excited to get over there and do some fishing!! Thanks Raiders. Regards, Ben
  3. Thats unreal! Maybe the killer whales were the reason for no fish?? I remember seeing them as a kid on the South Coast probably 15 years ago while surfing with my Dad. They are an incredible sight
  4. Thanks for that Kooks. Thats pretty much the gear that I had in mind. I have stayed at Malolo at Liku-Liku. Its the most amazing resort i've seen. Im sure you will have a great time if thats where you are going. I didn't fish, but had a lot of fun!
  5. Kooks, what gear (rod, reels, line, lures etc) did you use last time you were in Fiji? I will be doing a similar thing in Indonesia later this year - throwing poppers, lures, etc from the reef on low tide hoping to catch, well, anything! But probably just small GT's and the like. Thanks
  6. Yeah the Squidgies with the S-factor are awesome. Don't give up until you get a fish on a soft plastic. Bream on a soft plastic go so much harder than bait imo
  7. I caught an 89 cm Flathead on 6 pound line. It took half an hour after a seemingly endless amount of runs .... It sure was a test of patience!
  8. Hi Raiders, Just wondering if anyone has used the Shimano Raider Travel fishing rods? I will be doing a bit of traveling later this year, and of course some fishing while I'm away! All comments are appreciated...
  9. The S Factor that you get with the Squidgies helps a lot I have found when targeting Bream with SPs. And I agree that fishing light with a slow retrieve is effective.
  10. Hi Raiders, Just wondering if anyone has caught Snapper using marinated Chicken? Also, what would be the best bait for targeting Snapper in an estuary? Thanks

    squid

If keeping Squid to use as bait for future fishing sessions, what is the best way to clean it up? Should they go in the freezer as they are? Or is it ok to rinse them in freshwater before freezing them?
  13. Heres the photo. Had to get a new camera cord to upload it to the mac.
  14. Hi Tom, I was down at Balmoral wharf on Tuesday morning and caught a legal King. I caught it on a Yakka that was about 20 cm long! Yakkas were easy to come by early on and it wasn't too busy. Only three of us there. Good luck Ben
