  1. Quite the all round fisherman. If I'm not mistaken you caught a few blackfish at Avoca on Saturday and then gave them away. It seems that you succeed no matter what your chasing. I might hit you up for some tips next time i see you. Very nice catch.
  2. Nice catch. I wish my first jewie was that big. I've been chasing the mythical fish for a long time now with no success until the other week when i caught 3 all undersized. My first one went 44.5cm, half a cm off being legal, dam! Anyway again great catch. Bosster42413
  3. I've never gone wrong with using a 3 inch metal lure. They hit it every time and it aso works for tailor and salmon. Hope this helps. Booster42413
  4. Cheers for that. I wasnt aware of the Berkley nets. I'll have to check them out.
  5. Hey Poddy, youre right about fun on the light gear and the aerial show was fantastic (good practice for my barra trip next year). As for the poppers thats all they would bite on at the start of the day. We used poppers and surface minnows, however later on they seemed to like the silver matel 3 inch minnows which was lucky because we had lost all our surface lures by then.
  6. ScottyB, All fish dropped were Aussie Salmon. We dropped them because we were using light gear and no net... well we had a net at the start but Lures, fish and old landing nets create tangles to we cut the net to get our lures out. It was worth it with the action out there. I think i need an environet.
  7. Hi all, Went out in the HR today hoping to catch that mythical jewie. So a mate and I headed out towards the bait grounds at west head only to come across a massive school of Oz Salmon in a feeding frenzy. It was then that our target fish changed. We started flicking a few lures around and the action began. Best fighting fish ive come across. Anyway we bagged out on the salmon early but the action was to fun so we continued to chase them. We ended the day having caught 14 salmon (only kept 10), 4 bonito and a thousand fish dropped at the boat. All the salmon were about 60cm long. And the best bit about the day, we had the HR to ourselves, gotta love fishing mid week. until next time Booster42413
  8. Hi Cowboy, My mate was using a surface minow and i was using a dodgy old silver metal lure about 3 inches long. Don't know what what it was. Sorry i couldn't give you anymore info. As for the fun it was unreal. I'll definitely be chasing them from now on.
  9. Hi all, Took a mate out fishing in the HR this morning. Up at 4am and on the water at 5am. After a few teething issues with the boat we anchored at Juno Point with not another boat in sight. We had been there for about 15 minutes before i landed the first fish and it was........a catfish. About 5 minutes later a second catfish, obviously to much freshwater in the river. So we decided to move out to flint and steel were it was a little less muddy. When we got to F&S we could see birds hitting the water but didnt seem to be any other action underneath the surface. So on the off chance there was something there we flicked a few lures around. A few casts and Reece was onto a little tailor and soon enough i was onto a tailor too. Then all went quiet until Reece had something bigger hit his lure only to miss the strike. Being a great mate i decdied to cast into the same spot and hopefully cut his grass. Sure enough wham Im on and after a great 10 minute fight i land my first Bonito (46cm). We fish for a few more hours but nothing, so we called it a day. Not many fish to speak of but both of us were stoked with the Bonito. I have a phot but struggling to attach it, says the file is to big. Until next time. Booster42413
  10. Hi all, Not to offend or insult your knowledge of fish but there are a lot of eel tail pike around at the moment in the HR. They are often mistaken for hairtail, similar to look at especially the big teeth and ugly head however they are brown as opposed to the silver hairtail. Eel tail pike also taste like crap, (I learnt the hard way). Again i don't mean to offend anyone and i'm not saying that your fish definitely weren't hairtail, it's just info for those who haven't come across an eeltail pike before. Cheers Booster42413
  11. Thanks all for your tips and for those who have the same issues with Jewies as I have. I shall try all those hints and tips and see if i can get that first elusive Jewie. I hear that after you get your first you get them on a regular basis. I will continue the mission and keep all informed of my progress. Thanks again raiders Booster
  12. Hey all, Today I decided to try and catch my first Jewie. Not my first time targeting this mythical fish but thought i might have more success this time after doing hours of research (reading fishraiders' posts & watching DVD's). So a friend and I put the boat in a patonga and headed out to the bait grounds but the wind was howling so we came back in to a spot near Flint and Steel where we found a school of yellowtail and the fun began. After about 30 mins we had enough livies to last the day. We anchored at Flint and Steel and that where the story ends. No fish, no bites, no action at all. So i have proven again that jewies do not exist. However i will continue to chase the dream and the jewies. Cheers, Booster
  13. Thanks heaps for that guys. I'll be sure to post the results.
  14. Hi all, I'm taking my boat down (from Gosford) to Carringbah to see friends and take them out for a casual fish. However i dont know the waterways near there at all. Can anyone tell me where a good location to fish is? Quantity is more important than quality as we'll have my toddler son with us also. Any hints will be much appreciated. Cheers Booster42413
