  1. The more I surf the more I get depressed. A guide is about $500 per day Accommodation at some are $1000.00 per night. Might just go to the pub instead.
  2. Hi Clutch, Have been surfing and looking at a few. Seam to be either really bloody expensive ($1100 per night) or quite cheap. Nothing in between. Dont know if I can take fishing instructions from a woman. Have to take instructions from the wife every day. All the good ones seam to be on the South Island!!!!!
  3. Hi All, Wife has a conference in Auckland in February and thought about tacking on a trip afterwards. Clutch can you or the other members recommend a Fly Fishing lodge not too far from Auckland for a few days R&R. Appreaciate your help. Gutsy

    Xmas Drinks

Gutsy will be there. Hope to see every Raider there.
  5. Neil, I fished North Steyne (Manly) on Saturday arvo from 5.30 till about 9.00pm for zero. Mate got an Undersize Taylor first cast then Nothing for 3 1/2 hours. Gutter was first class, but no fish holding in it. A bit of weed also. Got baited twice by what must have been small not to pickup a 6 hook gang. Got home in time for it to pour down rain. Nice to get out but was unorganised due to recent Trout fishing trip. Regards Gutsy
  6. Me too Ken, Hope to see ya at the Chrissy drinks. Gutsy
  7. Pogo, Didn't even get a chance to get the Fly Rod out. After the first day which as windless it blew out of the West all day every day. Did manage to throw some SP's and HB's and had a morning trolling but nothing was interested. All fish were caught on a Bardi Grub and Powerbait rig which is on the Alpine Angler web site. The Powerbait foats the length of your dropper off the bottom and the Bargie Grub has an amazing oil that gets the fish biting. Dan, I don't have a phone number for the Huts. The bookings are made by a mate of my Dad's and have been booked for the same weeks every year for the last 15 years. Very well held secret.
  8. This is the view on arrival from Mt Cobrabolt. Beloww right are the fishing Huts. These are the old Dam workers Huts that have been repositioned and are now modest fishing huts. This is the view from the Verandah of the Hut. Same view with a bit of rain. After a good session. Most trout except for 3 Browns were Rainbows and all around 2 -3.5 pound. No big buggers this year as last trip managed a couple of 4.5 and 6 pounders. Bagged out after 5 days fishing. On session had 33 between 6 of us. How the serenity. Good fishing Gutsy
  9. If it is not too late I got a leave pass (They think they are in charge ) Have own rod and been flying for about 5 years now. No expert but not a boof. If that makes any sense. See you then. Gutsy
  10. Thanks Pedro and Gav, Pedro will be fishing from the bank so need them to sit off the bottom. Gav, float is good if wind is favorable, can blow the froth off your beer at times at Eucumbeme. Have found at night the big Browns cruise the flats looking for food and we have had good sucess with Bardi Grubs and Powerbait. Always looking for the EDGE. Gutsy
  11. Gents, Would appreciate any input on the following. Have secured a trip to Lake Eucumbeme for 5 days Trout fishing with Dad and his 9 mates. Im the baby of the group at 42 years of age. We normally bait fish with Bardi Grubs/Powerbait and Mudies dependent on weather and everything else. I was thinking this year that all the big fish caught have Yabbies in their guts. This must show that the big fish perefer big meals or big baits. Anyway my idea was a Paternoster rig but with a cork at the top to present the bait vertically and not allowing the Yabbie to hide in the weed and algie. Has anyone any experience with such a rig. As long as the weights were right I thought it must work. You could trim the cork for less bouyancy. Thanks Gutsy PS. Will also be lure fishing and throwing SP's and fly. Will be busy.
  12. Work is a shit and juggling family life. You know how it is. Wife is off to USA for 10 days leaving me with kid That means drop off and pickup from day care 3 days a week and 2 days with the Nanny. Ohh to be fishing........................
