  1. Great work on your Rainbows, My wife and I also went to Lake Lyell on Monday and we camped in a tent for 2 nights, I was taking a kip in the afternoon in the tent one day when my wife Vicki took one of the rods and went for a walk up the bank. After about an hour I woke and went looking for her in the boat. I found her about half a km from camp, her jeans were wet half way up her legs and she was frezzing. She had langed a nice rainbow on a pink tassie devil but droped in on the edge of the water. She says she through the rod and jumped in the water and thrust the rainbow back up on the bank. Alas it was the only fish we caught for the trip and again I was out fished by the misses. But we had a great 2 nights camping with a great roaring fire to keep us warm along with a few cold drinks Brad

  7. Despite the poor weather on Sunday My wife Vicki & I decided to head up to Thompson creek dam again for a crack at the mighty trout. We arrived around 3:00pm and checked into a room for the night at the the local pub as it was really brass monkey weather when we arrived . There was a band playing in the pup, the log fire was crackling, and the beer was.... well you know how it goes. The wind blew like a beauty all night as the rain spat down on our bedroom window. The next morning, Monday was even worse than the day before, so we stayed in bed until around 10:00am. I suggested to Vic that maybe we should just go home, after all we had a great night in the pub, so not all had been lost. Vicki was adament despite the weather we were going for the trek into Thomos!. (I'm the luckiest guy in the world to have a wife that loves fishing ) So off we went, somewhat rugged up but not really prepared for what lay ahead. We were half way in on the 3 klm walk when the grey skies above began to snow. What the heck we were half way in so on we trudged against the wind and snow. We persisted to fish for around 5 hours until our hands were number then numb and we were frozen to the bone. At 4:30pm Vic says I've had enough lets go. The only problem was she had caught a beautiful 5lb brown and a 2.5 lb rainbow. all I had caught was a tiny rainbow that I don't want to talk about . So we called it a day and made our way back to the car where we had some dry clothes. We walked to the car at a blistering rate to escape the cold but even then, while we were changing our clothes the snow kept comming. So even the inside of the car got showered in white thanks to the wind. We called into the Ivanhoe hotel at Blackheath on the way home and sat in front of an open log fire eating hot pizza washed down with Despite the weather conditions of the trip we both agreed it was a great time shared together and really enjoyed the whole experience. We would both do it all over again. (Live each day as though it is your last) Check out the pics, Hey I know it is me holding Vic's big brown, I just had to put this one in. Cheers Brad & Vicki.

  9. The others have already said it, But very well done and great report!!!. The water level has risen a bit now after the recent rains. I will be at Glenbawn in November with a few other raiders. I will be very happy if I catch some fish like yours. Cheers Brad
  10. Stewy, At first I really thought you were admiring my banana, that’s why I offered to share it with you And what happened after you went off about bananas on board? Just as I said, I caught a nice bream Mate you claim that stinking garlic spray is the be all and end all I reckon you should try a bit of banana yourself sometime But as you said, we had a great day with plenty of laughs and some mighty fine fishing as well. Thanks for a great day. Brad

  15. I returned to Thompson Creek dam recently with my We arrived at the waters edge at about 4:30in the afternoon and on the second cast with a pink Tassie devil my wife Vicki landed a small rainbow. Though, this fish was small it got me excited. With in 5 minutes I had hooked and landed a beautiful 2 lb rainbow. Vicki & I were now casting our Tassie devils like nobody’s business. Things were quiet for a while with only the wind blowing across the water. Then Vicki does a terrible cast landing about 10 meters from the bank. I couldn't believe my eyes when I seen her line pull tight , I knew she was not snagged as the rod was really performing. Vicki was screaming, and wanted me to take the rod. Trying to keep her calm and hide my own excitement I checked the tension on her drag and let this monster have its initial run. Good thing there was nobody around to watch as we were now both screaming with excitement and anticipation. After a few runs Vicki finally landed the best Brown trout I have ever seen . We were now both screaming with jubilation. I could not get my line back in the water fast enough as I was now down 2 to 1 to the . The afternoon shadows lengthened and we made our way back across the dam wall and the 3 klm walk to the car park with what we could only call a fantastic afternoons fishing. We checked out the small town nearby and after a nice meal and a couple of in the local pub I made the suggestion to Vicki that we get a room for the night and hit the dam at first light in the morning. with adrenaline still pumping through her veins she agreed . The pub had no rooms available but guided us to the Black Gold cottages just down the road. So after a good nights sleep and feeling refreshed we were up and back on the dam at first light. The sky was clear, not a breath of wind and the water had a mirror reflection of the surrounding mountains. And try as we would we did not get a touch all morning, but after the fun we had the previous afternoon we didn't really care. We just soaked up the moment and enjoyed the beauty of this morning that Thomos had to offer. Can't wait to get back there real soon. Cheers Brad
  16. I work with Swordfisherman, he was telling me all about this great day snapper fishing. It all sounded too good to be true. So I logged in and could not believe my eyes when I read the report not to mention the photos and that awsome demented bump on that huge snapper. Stewy, lets organise an trip on Broadbill. This story has got me excited Brad
  17. As stewy says it was a great day at Tommos. Stewy had warned me to come prepared for some cold weather so I donned my trusty ski suit and it did the job for me, especially when I was bogged up to my crotch, for which I owe a debt of gratitude to international rescue otherwise I would still be there as I can assure you I could not have got out on my own. I was estatic, to say the least when I hooked and landed a beautiful rainbow on my second cast. This is trully a pretty place and well worth the early morning start not to mention the excerise from the walk in and out. Thanks Stewy, look forward to another session at Thommos in the future. Cheers Brad
  18. Hi Ross, Please, add myself, my daughter Renee and Vicki Cheers Brad
