  1. Dave, would be good to catch up for a beer or a coffee, whatever your preference as Id like to get a handle on fishing Coogee/Maroubra. My shout, cheers Simon
  2. Cheers Dave, thanks for the advice. Ill add swivels to the list! Will see how I go with palming, being pretty new having that safety of a bit of drag rather than watching my line disappear off into the distance Many thanks Simon
  3. Thanks Lunderik angler....advice well received thank you!. Sounds like something up to that length would be a good all-rounder length for me to get started on. I'm hoping beach, and some easy rock fishing will be the way that it goes for me. Cheers
  4. Thank-you again! I'll have a look and see what's around. The reel looks about $55 from what I can see from a quick google search. Do you mind letting me know the length I should be looking at for fishing in the Coogee/Sth Coogee/Maroubra areas? Cheers
  5. Thanks mate, much appreciated. Ill have a look around for a rod/reel combo set with the Alvey 500BC, and the line you suggested too. Hopefully pick up something not too expensive. Cheers Simon
  6. Hi again, I've just seen another post regarding the Alvey reel, actually the same combo...which looks like it might not be what Im needing as a beginner, so maybe any suggestions would be very welcome. It looks as though I need a reel with drag, which the 500b doesnt have (advice from fishingphase and abecedarian in another post). Cheers Simon
  7. Hi everyone, I've been reading posts here for a little while now, and getting a bit of a feel for how this works. Everyone seems super friendly with fantastic advice for new visitors. Previously from QLD (but dont hold that against me!), I'm new to the eastern suburbs Coogee in particular. I've not fished much before, but a few people I've spoken to here have sparked my interest. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction for rod/reel combo's as I've been looking for something fairly entry level to start with. Ive seen the following gear from BCF (can I say that?), and wondering if it would suit fishing around the Coogee/South Coogee/Maroubra areas, either beach or some really safe rock areas. Alvey GP Surf Combo - 7', 500B, 2 Piece - GP or estuary outfit - 5" Graphite backed reel with turbo cast - Solid glass 2 piece rod I've seen people mention catching tailor, salmon, trevally, blackfish and a host of others, but Im happy with anything that could be a good eat. I hope that's enough information, and that someone could point me in the right direction, would be really appreciated. Many thanks everyone. Simon
