  1. Hi guys went out today with my nephew round 11am, put the tinnie in at Kooliwong, then did a few drifts at the start of the run out tide. Got a few pesky little bream but nothing to write home about. At least it was an excellent day on Brisbane Water and I hope to be posting about fish in the near future instead of the weather! Ant. PS Just used prawns for bait soaking and got the bream on Gulp worms cut in half...
  2. Hi just got a v small rock cod or something.... Didnt stay that long tho cot a call up for work Ant.
  3. Anyone interested in going to sth Avoca rocks this fri the 27th June? I will be floating strip baits and livies and also breading for drummer. Cheers
  4. Has anyone fished either Terrigal or Avoca Lagoons? They get opened up fairly regularly so I can't see why there wouldn't be fish there. However I have NEVER seen anyone fish them (been living at North Avoca now for 6 weeks) - I tried to see what was at Avoca by throwing some bread around but nothing touched it. There is good structure there from fallen trees, plenty of bird life, but I'm interested to know if anyone has any info about these lagoons. Much appreciated, Ant:)
  5. Has anyone used these by just floating them under a balloon or similar? Want to set a line at Avoca rocks (using the squid SP as 'bait") whilst I play with wash for drummer and bream. What do you think? Any advice?

    Time Waster

If you need to kill some time at work or Uni then google newgrounds for hepas of flash games and movies / serials. My fave at the mo is "Mole surfing" - Google that and then try it out. My PB is 1375.4m Took me bout 25 mins to get it.... Unfortunately you can be hooked easily so BE WARNED you can spend ages playing this one. Dont get the boss angry link to mole surfing http://www.freewebarcade.com/game/mole-surfing/
  7. Hi, You can pump nippers on the other side of the Gos Railway bridge, always seem to be plenty there. I also like Paddy's and The Rip, but the Rip can get crowded. Also there are heaps of oyster leases about but not all are in use - so a fish finder is good to have a squiz at whats about before tying off or anchoring. As for sand flats, try Patanga creek. Bit of a drive but I've pulled out huge lizards thare, in the 2-3kg size (landbased spinning snd on SP's). I reckon a drift there would go off!! Ant.
  8. Guys, even though I threw out the beach fishing idea it seems the Jew Social has gathered far more momentum and as a result I too have jumped on that bandwagon. I'd rather score a ride and sit in a boat than get wet feet and sore arms from casting - geez I sound like a whinging Pom!! Have a good time if it goes ahead, if not maybe reschedule till 07??????
  9. 30th September sounds great. I'd rather go hunting for jews (make that mullaway!) than beach fishing as it allows more time for Lock me in Eddie (or whoever the new person is) PS. Above jew/mullaway reference aimed at Mel Gibson.....
  10. Reckon I could get the bro inlaw out for this one. November eh? Count us in.
  11. With me being a Uni student I get plenty of time during the day to watch cooking shows. I reckon the best tip Ive got is when deep frying DO NOT put your food on paper towel, cause when the towel gets oily, the food sticks and batter goes soggy. You would have noticed in fish and chip shops that they have a wire basket to deep fry with, and once food is cooked they usually lift out the basket and let the oil drain off over the fryer. To sort of replicate this you need to put the fish (or chips or whatever) onto a cake cooling rack, which would be over paper towel (to absorb oil), thereby suspending your fish and keeping batter crispy!!! Ant. PS. I thought there was talk of a recipe section being created? Any more news on that front?
  12. Well it seems that those dates in August are not too good. Maybe we should allow more time? It would give the weather a chance to warm up, and maybe the majority of interested fisho's could make it. Septemeber? 16th & 17th? 23rd &24th? All suggestions welcome. The more raiders that can make it the better! Also, pushing the date back gives me more time to practice....
  13. Sounds OK to me. I need to have a date though to arrange time off work, cause I live on the Central Coast I will def need the whole weekend off. How bout 26 and 27th August?

    Kayak

Thanks. I googled "kayak rod holders" and it seems that if you dont want to drill into your hull (which I dont) then the humble milk crate is the go. Still, I would like to see some setups to get some ideas....
  15. Would anyone be interested in doing some "social" beach fishing? Would probably be better once the water / air temp gets hotter, but nearly everyone could do it (no boats needed) and the area to fish (ie beach) would accomodate heaps of people. No real "specialist" tackle is needed either, as those without beach rods could work the shallows for choppy tailor, whiting etc. Area to hold it could be done by popular vote. Anyone interested? Any thoughts?

    Kayak

Hi guys. Just got a plastic sit-on type kayak for paddling around Bris Water, but want to fit it out with some accessories so I can fish / troll from it. Can anyone give me some advice? You can buy some rod holders and stuff but i'm looking at doing a cheaper DIY job - cash is limited as im a uni student. Any advice would be appreciated. Here is a link to my kayak - "Viking NEMO" http://www.vikingkayak.com.au/nemo_kayak.htm Anthony
  17. My final would be Dragons - Storm, Dragons to win. I hope Parra can make top 8 and take out shit teams, like Manly....
  18. Hi all. Went out to Spoon Bay (Central Coast) yeaterday to try for some tailor, sambos etc on the high tide. Got there bout an hour before, rigged up my beach rod (paternoster rig, 3/0 gangs on two droppers), baited with some pillies and cast out into the calmest piece of water I could find. The beach was really ripping, very rough. Managed to get some runs but no hook ups. After the rain pelted me for about an hour and a half, and with no fish, I gave the rest of my pillies to the ocean and went home - fishless Anyway, I wet a line so it wasn't all bad. Might try some creek mouths tomorrow, after the rain theres bound to be some action happening there!! Ant:)
  19. Great fish from the Central Coast! Got any pointers for Wyong creek shore based? PM me pls if you feel like giving away your secret spots! I'd love a bream dinner soon.... Ant:)
  20. I have foul hooked a turtle before, in the neck. I didn't want to leave my hook in him but he kept trying to bite me so I reefed it out quickly and gave him a bit of a gash. Thought that was better as he couldn't tuck his head in properly with the hook still in. Hope it was the correct think to do. I know fish can get along with a hook in them, but what do you for a turtle? Ant:)
  21. Awesome!!!! If your ever in the Central Coast area and someone to share the fuel & bait costs..... Ant Might even get you a case of
  22. Click on the link and go to thier homepage. Looks real enough but from the pics you can see there is a plasic moulding around the cap, and the website says they fill the cavity with ball bearings also. I might have a go at making some (minus the plastic moulding) and will post pics here. Ant

    Boat Kits

Hello! My brother in law and I are thinking of going halves in a boat, but me being a uni student I dont have a great deal of spare cash. My bro in law is a sheet metal worker, and can weld anything. He has been told about these boats you can buy in a flat pack, which are all machine plasma cut panels that you weld together yourself. Does anyone know how these boats perform? Or how much they cost? The outlaw reckons you can a 6m deep V for about 10 grand. The motor we already have is an injected Mariner 70hp, so the 6m may be too big for that but do you think it is better to buy bigger boat and then upgrade motor? Or buy boat to suit motor? Space isn't an issue as the boat will be outside under a carport built for a caravan. Thanks guys (& girls!) Ant:)
  25. Has anyone used the new Prawnstar lures? I reckon they look good for $10 but you can buy a 3pk of cheapies for $8 so was wondering if anyone has used them with success, in particular success over the cheaper ones? Ant:)
