  1. hahaha they look like fun
  2. Top pics and some awesome fish. Sounded like fun, good on ya
  3. Hey yall, just a quick question, went down to BLAH BLAH BLAH today and was looking at the sling shot rod range by shakespeare, for $70 dollars they looked like a bargin. Was wondering though if anyone has use them before and what were they like? Another rod i came across was the abu garica veritas they looked pretty nice as well, same question anyone used them before?
  4. My personal fav lures for bream and flaties would be berkley turtleback worm (pumpkin seed) and squidgy flick bait 85-70mm (pilly). Working them, because its winter a slower retrieve will prove more successful, use just a basic lift and jig retrieve and make sure to let ur lure sink to the bottom espically when fishing for flathead. Hope this helps
  5. The c14 stradic has a faster retrieve ratio then most of the other shimano reels hence why it sort of sounds like a fan. Ive got one to and its makes the same sound, it happens with all of them dont thing u have a broken reel. hope this clears things up
  6. What are u targeting with lures? Happy to help just need a little info
  7. Hi Spoooled, i have had reasonable success fishing the squidgy stealth prawn but in the tiger prawn colour. Have caught plenty of bream and flatties and the occasional trevally and whiting on them, ive been using the 50mm and 70mm sizes. If u decided to fish them make sure to fish them with light jig heads around the 1/12 mark as they sink quite quickly. hope this is helpful
  8. My personal favourites are: > Berkley gulp turtle back worm 100mm pumpkin seed colour > Squidgy 100mm wriggler bloodworm colour > Squidgy 85mm flick bait pilly colour > TT 1/4 ounce vibes in the brighter colours
  9. And i would spool up with braid, either power pro or with one of daiwa's finer braids. Somewhere between 10-15 lb should be a good starting point, anything much heavier will start to hinder ur casting distances.
  10. I would have a look at Daiwa's range of spinning reels if i were u. For one i have found them a lot smoother then most of the shimano range and the quality is outstanding. Reels such as the exceler DA and sol which i've had experience with are a little stronger and more ridged rather then the shimano c14 range which tends the flex under pressure. So just suggesting if your looking at something around the $150 range have a look at the exceler range, but if your willing to spend a few extra bucks defiantly have a look at the sol probably the 4000 size, they are extremely smooth and incredibly powerful. Hope this gives u a few ideas
  11. Looking for a new light spinning rod for casting plastics and can across some of the samaki rods, in particular the Zing, Vamp and Zection. Has anyone had any experience fishing with the lighter models of these rods? Or can anyone suggest any 2-4kg 7 foot rods worth having a look at around $200? Any replies would be great
  12. Is the avoca lagoon completely open?
  13. thanks for the replies everyone, i've been reading reports about it break more or less around its suggested breaking strain rather then braid which usually breaks well above it. anyone conform? Thank u
  14. Hi all, just wondering if anyones had any experience with using berkley's newish superline "nanofil" it looks pretty good but any one tried it? Any replies would be great thank u!
  15. Looks like a top couple of hours well done. Just a few questions what bait or lures were u using and would u be able to tell me what beach or area? Well done
  16. Hi Hammo, i would freeze them to keep them fresh and if frozen they will keep longer. I guess u could re-freeze them but they will lose alot of there freshness. Hope its helpful
  17. If ur not wanting to travel so far the cronulla beaches wanda and green hills should be fishing well for species like salmon and tailor. Another beach thats a little closer is maroubra which i've had personal success at on whiting, salmon and dart and is defiantly worth ago. Hope this helps
  18. Hi Chris, would be happy to help but were r u located mate?
  19. Shouldn't be to early to catch salmon and tailor. Anyway north avoca fishes especially well for salmon i know that for a fact i don't know about tailor though. The north side of the beach about 150m down from the head land there is a very deep gutter that runs parallel with the beach which should hold plenty of salmon and other goodies. Another good spot on the beach is just in front of the lagoon, theres a bit of a moon shaped gutter which holds tailor, salmon and loads of dart. I've had the most success on beach worms as bait either store bought of if u can catch them yourself, i find that they produce a number of by catch species such as dart, whiting, bream and flathead. Hope this helps
  20. Hi there, have been fishing with dizzy's garlic scent for a few months have had some success with it but nothing overwhelming. Its defiantly worth a try just to give an extra edge, it can be purchased on Motackle and probably at any large tackle store eg BCF or Tackleworld. Hope it helps
  21. Hi mate, the salmon and tailor should really be starting to bit soon. U should be looking to fish the deeper water on the beach in the form of a "gutter". If u can find a good gutter u should be in with a fare chance, fish the rising tide the last 3-2 hours of the rising tide either at dusk or dawn. I use a full pilly with two 3/0 or 4/0 suicide hooks one though the head and the other just in from the tail or if your unsure u can always just use a gang hook rig. I fish avoca and terrigal beach so if ur struggling to get fish at wamberal give the other two ago. http://www.fishing-mates.com/tailor/surftailor.html Check this site out as well with give u plenty of tips Hope this helps
  22. Hi all long time, great site and finally first report Was invited to stay on a mates land in the Monkeria region for a 3 nights and help out with the development of his house and do some fishing while im there of cause. Anyway left sydney saturday morning and arrived there along 6 and a half hours later traffic was that bad . Seeing as my mate isn't much of a fisherman i was able to get away all 3 every mornings to do some fishing and bush bashing. 1st morning headed up stream of one of the 2 rivers that are connected (sorry unable to remember name), anyway left the tent at an early 6am trekked it for a good 15 or so minutes before i found a nice looking pool. First cast with a little river 2 sea pencil style lure at a submerged log nothing, 2nd cast the same result, 3rd decided to cast up at an eddy at the top of the pool just to the left of the small rapids. Got if right underneath and tree perfect i thought to myself, tweak..... tweak, WACK ZZZZZ and im on the a short lived battle fish through the hooks after about 10 seconds and the disappointment kicks in anyway cant win them all. A few more casts and nothing so decided to do some more bush bashing to the next pool. This pool was also very nice deep but still very clear. First cast into the open between the trees gave it a very aggressive retrieve with lots of stops and starts, got the lure within a few metres of me and saw a nice looking bass right behind it so can it a twitch and smash was on and started praying to who ever u believe in that those hooks stay in. A 2 or so minute battle was eventually won by myself and produced a nice 32cm wild river bass which was quickly released after a quick kiss and measurement. By now the adrenaline was really pumping. Moved on to 2 more pools with no more success except for one other hit. (Sorry no pics) 2nd was hoping to improve on yesterdays session so once again left at 6am and headed up stream of the other river. Once again found a perfect looking pool with rapids entering and exiting creating a very nice frothy eddy, so once again my little pencil lure came out so a cast into the froth proved successful . Smack... miss tweak tweak.... pause.... Smack and i was on only a small fish it went 24cm but was great fun. No more for this pool, so once again pushed on to the next pool. 2nd cast this time resulted in success and i pulled a nice 29cm bass once again on the surface and this one again was released by no i was getting very pleased already 2 fish within 45min. Had a few more cats at the same pool and it proved very productive this time a 35cm bass. No more so moved on to the next a very shallow pool, got another which went 27cm. 4 for the morning so very pleased . 3rd morning i decided with all this success i would bring a camera with me and hopefully wouldn't prove to be a jinx. Of cause headed of once again at 6am this time down stream of were the two rivers meet. Walking walking walking and finally found a nice pool but saw to strange shapes to greet me floating on the surface about 10m out. I stared for a while and realised that they were platypuses as stocked as i was to see them in there natural habitat there was fishing to be done. Had a few casts at this pool 5th one hooked something half decent put up a good battle a few min later got it in was a 38cm bass took a few pics and back into the drink, no more form that pool so continued on. Past a few nice looking pools with no success except one small bas 20cm. Found the best looking pool so far it was beautiful and would hopefully hold so fishy treasures. Fished it for about 20minutes hoping for something but had no luck decided i would have a few casts then call it a trip. 2nd cats after under a tree with my trusty pencil lure hooked into something solid a good battle and 2 strong runs and just managed to keep it out of the submerged hazards, finally i came up trumps with a cracker 41cm bass snap snap and went straight back in to contuine on with its life. Managed another 30cm bass a wonderful way to finish a fantastic trip . Will post pics when i figure out how
