  1. Fished Hill 60 this morning for a couple of hours. Got up late so I wasn't on the rocks until around 10, was such a good morning. Shame the fishing wasn't the same. Flicked a heap of different metal lures for zip. The were some other fishos on the rocks but I didn't see them land anything either, not that I paid much attention though. In hindsight I should have taken some bait as where I was there was a good wash zone that would of been worth soaking some bait for some drummer. Heading home I saw a heap of bait schools with a few fishos in boats ripping in between south beach and the break walls. Would have been nice to have been out there.

  2. For all you gun Jew fishos out there- What is the most productive time of the year to fish for Jewies? In my limited experience I've found that the warmer months are more productive. However, speaking to a few guys who target them regularly, most agreed that the warmer months tend to produce more fish however they preferred the cooler months as even though they encounter fewer fish, they tend to be larger specimens. They found this to be especially true when fishing estuaries and reasoned that the larger Jewies will move into the estuaries to breed???? Would love to hear some feedback as I tend not to chase them as much during winter.

  3. Hi everyone.

I'm after a little advice if at all possible. I'm heading up to Yamba on Monday for 10 days where I plan to do a whole heap of fishing. I have a couple of nice spin rods that I will be taking and using in the estuary but after doing some research and looking at a few maps I really want to give that rockwall and maybe even a beach or two a go as well.

What kinda outfit do you guys think I would need? I'd like to be able to use it both off the beach and the rockwall if possible. I'm asking rod length reel size etc. I don't get a lot of spare time during the year with the kids and work etc so I don't want to spend a silly amount of money but I'd like to buy something decent at the same time.

So something durable, versatile decent etc and strong enough for me to hopefully catch a really nice fish :)

    Thanks for any help.

    Hey Mate.

It all depends on what you're targeting but seeing as though you mentioned the rockwall my first thought was Jewies in the river?

You'll get them off the beaches and the breakwall so i'd match a 4000 sized reel with a rod of between 8'-9'.

That should be fine for both the beach and breakwall.

  4. Report is a little late but anyway......

Hit the Clyde in late November, the plan was to chase Jewies at night and morning and have a flick around for whatever during the lighter hours. We fished the river from the bridge up to big island. We had a couple of decent runs on live tailor and fresh squid but didn't land anything apart from a few rays and a good sized shovel nose on my super light gear which was a bit of fun. Plastics didn't help our cause either with our quest for Jew. There was one cracking run where 150m of line was stripped so quickly but it wasn't to be as it was lost in amongst the moored boats around the bridge.

We did manage a few flatties and tailor but not much else. One thing that was interesting (moreso frustrating) was the amount of undersized flathead we caught. We must have returned dozens and dozens over the 3 days we fished. Speaking to a few other fishos down there and they all said the same thing. Oh well there's always next time and they should be bigger by then!

  5. Thanks guys. I have a few different plastics I've been trying, with which looking at your comments seem to be on the mark.

7" Gulp jerk shads in nuclear chicken, blue pepper & lime tiger. I find the nuclear chickens to be gun on Snapper.

    A range of 100mm squidgies

Tsunami 4" & 6" shads in pearl spot & sea trout. Interestingly, I've have most success (more good hits) on these cheaper Tsunami's, especially when smeared with S-Factor.

Like most lure fishing I think you need to keep mixing it up until you find the lure/lures that works on the day.

I'm heading to the Clyde for 3 days this week so I'll be giving it a good nudge on plastics so fingers crossed I can land one.

  6. Yeah I've heard reports of them being caught there the last month.

I normally use live bait as well, normally squid or yakkas but I think I might try some fresh Tailor fillets. Every time I've fished there they have been about so I'd assume the Jewies would be after them. Will also be targeting them with larger plastics.

  7. Has anyone fished the Clyde recently. I'm heading down there with a mate next week. We'll be targeting Jewies mainly so i'd be interested if anyone has had any success chasing them of late.

    Cheers.
