Can't go pass Bass Vampires, Clousers and Deceiver style flies as a quick stab..... Colours???? Preference and confidence in colour combinations. Fished with sinking lines slow and fast types matching fly type/weight and water column depth that you targeting where the fish are holding. Surface fishing my favourite is the red and black dalhberg.... Gurglers are quicker easier to tie and do the same damage. Dan

Well its been a while since I have been to Lyell and it was hard fishing I found given the conditions, still opting for fly gear and my friend trying both spinning and fly depending on how much wind was blowing and direction. We only managed 1 fish between us. I got this nice little brown with my ol faithful for this cold season. I am looking forward for all this wind to die off.

Well al my fish have been caught on a brown wooly bugger with a few good wraps of lead giving it a slow natural sink. Fished with a floating line 10 foot of leader/tippet

We did the pilgramage again to TCD yesterday, The trek along Bell was great, heavy frost/snow patches along with clear skies made for a great spectical with occasional family pulled over letting their kids play in the heavy patches of snow which placed a good vibe for the day. On arrival at the lake the wind picked up which was a bit of a downer but after getting ready we were prepaired for along day of hard fishing. After flogging the water for hours and hours and hours it was a sweet F,A moment. Well still persisted with interludes of amusement with a mob of Billies getting dispatched. Then my lucked turned in the late afternoon finally in the last few hours of light. I managed two very nice rainbows on fly while my mate watched in dismay fishing the same spots getting 0 (he he he!!!). In the last hour of light we headed back over the wall and fished the car park side which became quite still, hoping for a evening rise (Fail...) and watching the sunset we wandered off for the long trip home..

Thanks, The big ones can be a bit dogged sometimes, I find the rainbows 2 to 4 pound are the fun ones to catch very energetic for the their size. I love eating fresh trout, smoked, grilled or baked, they are superb and go with any side dishes and the adult beverage of your choosing. Highly recomended to get into the freshwater species imported or native its fun fishing with a different view...

A friend and myself went up to TCD for the day braving the winds. My mate borrowed my spinning gear and I opted to use fly gear.Well it was a pretty slow day all together alot of walking and casting at likely areas were we thought fish would be holding while trying to shelter from the wind but zip.......Fortunately once we hit some shallow water and the wind eased for a minute I spotted a bit of a flash in the water between some trees as my mate walked off over the ridge.I managed to get a few nice and suttle cast into the likely area were the fish was patroling and wack, felt like a nice fish so I put the anchor on due to trees in the water which he seemed to favour heading for.Once I caught a glimpes of the fish Holy S&^%!! looking for my mate to help land it well he wasn't my friend at that moment as he had dissapeared completely. Luckly some other fisherman heading back my way heard me squealing like a little girl gave me a hand to land it (which I am greatly thankfull for the help.... Thanks again!!!)Well anyway the fish felt a solid 6-7 pounds give or take which I am not to concerned about as it was a cracker of a brown for me hence the squealing..

They all work quite well the only thing that puts me off squidgeys is that they can be too soft which allow the little toothey critters to take their tails off very easily. But that also happens on Berkley grubs aswell at times especially with dreaded puffer fish that seem to plague the sydney flats, my preference is the 3 inch berkley minnow due to profile, robustness, action and versatility. My best advice is what ever brand or type of plastic that are going to use just have a few brights (pinks/Chart) and some natural colours with jig heads that suits your rod/line and water depth that you are fishing and I wouldn't use anything over 4inches, they will take bigger but it will be a very small amount of agressive fish that do.

Hi Spoooled I found the last 4 weeks it has been proven its worth but the area we have been fishing has been holding alot of bait in a similar size, but the chartruese seems to get more strikes compared to the natural colours in the same size and body and the water has been fairley clear as well on sandy bottoms.

I had a a pretty good session on plastics this morning landed 9 flatties and one Sambo which gave a pretty good account of himself in nice little wading spot in the harbour. 2 of Flatties just hit the 35cm which went back the other 7 ranged from 44cm to the biggest one which measured out 57cm which were harvested due to running out of food at home. The Sambo was well over 60cm. All taken on Chartruese 3inch Berkley minnows with 1/12 TT size 1 jig heads with 6 pound sunline leader, the fish seemed to shy away from heavier leader as my friend was fishing right beside me using 8 pound with the same lure and retrieve only bagged one . I do apologise as there were no pics taken, but we will be doing another run there tomorrow hopefully with some good fish and photos.

A mate and myself thought we would brave the winds this morning over at Narrabeen. The weapon of choice was probably not the best considering the conditions was the almighty 35mm popper. After a couple of hours of persistance we only managed 2 fish. I landed a 25cm whiting and my friend got a 38cm Bream. After calling it quits we had a quick look at one of the creeks off the lake. A quick change over to a little Oar-Gee I pulled a nice little EP around 23cm. A good ending to the session. Sorry about the average pic I wanted to get him back in the drink ASAP.

I went out ths afternoon with a mate to take advantage of weather I good descision though. We landed a quite a few nice plump fatties for dinner and managed a couple of Sambo's with a few lost as well which came down to worn out leader , the 4 pound nanofil performed realy well to my surprise. I just used a bit of knot strength glue with six pound leader Good times!!!

I was only fishing for them in about 6-12 inches of water. The bigger ones were in 2 foot but they were not interested or feeding just hanging out. With the distance I was getting 20 to 30 meters, using a 1-2kg stick with 4 pound braid the lure weight was around 3grams maybe 4. The lure was a River to Sea 35mm Bubble pop. Most of what I can gaver is a steady blooping retreive got the fish interest with no pause once they got a good look at it they would turn away. I hope this helps, I am going out again on Monday for them to a differnt spot, more shallow water but less tidal flow will post on results. Good luck.

Went down to Narrabeen lakes this afternoon for a fish was going fly fish it, but the wind and the tidal flow due to big tides wasn't going to work in my favour. So I thought I would throw some little 35mm poppers around for some whiting. First cast plop, plop, plop splash. Fish on!!! I thought this might be a good afternoon. 5cm bream. After persisting over a couple of hours I managed 4 whiting not really any boasting sizes 3 were around 6 inches and one got close to 8 inches. More fishing tomorrow and hopefully some decent fish aswell.

It can be quite productive at times for producing fish. You dont need to many different flies for that area. Baited breaths in chartruese, pinks and naturals, crazy charlies done in tan with a marabou wing all weighted within reason to keep the near the bottom. If your really keen and eager take bread flies in size 4 and 6 done with sheeps wool as on the egdes it goes translucent like soaked bread dont forget the a couple of loathes of bread for burley.

Well I thought I should start posting. Went down to Hen and Chicken Bay for a lazy fly fish session for Bream and a lazy sesion it was. I only got one fish, but it was a quality 1kg bream give or take 100grams. I thought I would have got a few more, probably should of tried some other patterns but it was a lazy session.
