LFP are very underrated as a table fish. Filleted and skinned the odour is gone and you can grill or fry the fillets same day or next and taste like whiting. Don't bother freezing.
LFP is it good for bait? lol i've already chucked it in the freezer, I was thinking of using it as bait, If so do you know how? do i cut it into strips with skin on?. What species of fish eat LFP?.
Cheers.
Thanks
Howe.

Well done! For preparing the leather jacket, have a look at a channel called The Hook and The Cookon Youtube, they have a good vid on how to prep them.
Is it okay to eat if its changed its colour? My friend caught it at brown rock and we put it in the esky with water and no ice then halfway along the track i emptied the water and then drive back to the nearest petrol station to get some ice. The leather jacket changed its colour from that photo so I'm not sure if its still safe to eat.
Thanks.

G'day fellow fish raiders,
For the first time of my life, I actually caught something legal. My friend caught a leather jacket and I got this weird fish but im not sure if I'm correct, but correct me if I'm wrong, It looks like a long finned pike. I dont know if this is a legal size fish because its not in my fishing chart from the nsw fishing department.
I have attached some photo.
P.S how do you cook leather jacket and long finned pike? Is long finned pike good? or should i use the long finned pike for bait fish?.
Thanks.

Due to the terrain you really need a boat. In saying that there are some areas near Apple Tree Bay that can be fished land based.
Man i've never had any luck at apple tree bay, would you use pilchards on a gang hook for salmon there? or in cubes?. The only fish ive caught at apple tree bay are bream and undersized :i
-
can these be fished through land base or only by boats?
Thanks.

Suspend bait about 1 m below the surface with a float.
Just use styrofoam you don't have to buy a float.
The float should not be free running.
You won't feel bites. You have to watch the float.
It will Bob under as fish bite it...
Use a breadcrumb, flour dough (for mullet)
Not sure about bream...
You could try unweighted peeled prawns or pillies
So when the float bob under do i yank it as i do usually?

I wonder if they still put on a sinker after the floater?

Legit this one time i saw this guy catching mullet at hawkesbury river station. He used bread and a floater, he didnt even cast out just dropped it line to the water and out comes 10 legal size mullet.
-
I'm exactly like you buddy.... Every time I catch a fish it's always just under legal size. I wonder what are they doing that's different
Like do they cast their floater out? I see their floater near the wharf. Like i get super jealous , everytime i go fishing i either catch no fish or under size fish. I use school prawns.

Hello fishraiders,
I just got back from fishing at the entrance, caught around 20 bream however all undersize (all released back to the water). I saw these guys fishing on the wharf and they have a different set up, they had floaters and caught a lot of legal size fish. I was wondering what is this set up? so its a float tied to a swivel then to a line, finally a hook? If so how far do you cast it? I saw the floater near the wharf. My set up is mainline with a size 3 bead sinker to a swivel and then a line tied to a hook with some prawn as bait.
I've always catch legal size fish and I'm really fed up . I've always see other people catching legal size fish and I've always seen tailors jumping out of the water taunting me .
Please give me some guidance and set up.
Thank you. Howe.

HI Howe
Don't use good Brie as it is too good for the Bream .Use the cheap grated parmesan $2 pk & mix into cut pieces of chicken thigh with your garlic. Then refridgerate
overnight.
Regds Bob
It's expired brie so i wouldnt care . $2 parmesan which supermarket sells those O_O

What area are you fishing?
I fish wherever i can get too. mostly hawkesbury river, botany bay area (e.g. wally wharf, brown rock).
-
Howe,
There are far better baits and techniques to use to catch flathead than chicken and cheese! We usually get that on the way home from maccas!
For example, soft plastics, hard body lures, ganged pilchards, prawns etc!
Maybe do a bit more reading and researching the areas you intend to fish before our next outing!
Cheers scratchie!!!
I've used prawns but I've always catch illegal size fish . And i dont know how to use soft plastics, hard body lures etc..

My target species are mainly flat head and bream. Ill be using long shank hook, btw how thick and long do i need to cut my chicken (i'm using drum stick fillet).
Thanks.

Hi, Fish Raiders
I'm a newbie when it comes to fishing. I've only got one legal size fish in my whole life and i need some advice. I wanted to ask if you can use any type of cheese mixed with Chicken, other than parmesan. Is Brie cheese okay to use mixed with some garlic?
Thanks
Howe.

Hi Howe, I found this today. Shows some crab spots at Woy Woy for you to try.image.jpeg
Thanks man, much appreciated. You've helped me alot.
-
Yes, the ferry wharf. Not sure about Woy Woy however there is heaps in that system so they should be there if the terrain is right.
I see thanks, btw is it possible to catch them in the daylight?
-
Definitely can catch them off the wharf at Empire Bay.
Empire bay ferry wharf? do you have any idea about the wharf in Lions park or the T wharf near woy woy fisherman wharf.
-
it's good to hear that you're catching crabs via hand line, gives me hope. Is it possible to do it land base though? or it can only be done on a boat?.
Thanks.
-
there's nothing to prevent the death of these little fish? I always hook these and most of them when i throw them back end up dead :I.
-
Is it possible to go crabbing on land? or set out crab pots without boats?.
Thanks
Set my 4 witches hats at dawn with hopes of a feed of crabs after getting some a couple of weeks ago, then headed to Patonga to see if there were any flathead around.
There were a few around but no size, about 1/2 the fish were just under legal but managed 5 keepers. Got some yellowtail which proved the most popular bait catching the larger fish.
Things went quite about 10am so picked up the hats for just 1 crab, still it was a nice day on the water and it wasn't as much an effort on my own as going outside.
-
I use lures man but prawns will do the job. Fresher the better.

Sorry to bother you again, have you been to the wharf at lions park? just east from the station.

Hey mate, 90 Percent sure the ones over at Phegans bay are public. Also, the 'Pin drop' on the south side are all private apart from the last one from memory.
you cant miss it from the road, open public section.
Best of a few worlds there, got a deep channel, weed beds and a bit of a rocky ledge.
Good luck!
Btw you fish with prawns or lures?.

I picked up a few good flatties up at Phegans Bay on Australia Day. A little far from Woy Woy station on the shoe lace express but worth it! There are also a few jettys and public wharfs in the area. The setup you have is fine! Good luck!

Where and how to catch nippers in sydney?
in Fishing Chat
Posted
Good day fellow raiders,
I'm new to fishing and was wondering where to get nippers or yabbies? I've heard you cant get them in Parramatta river or in sydney harbour because it's illegal, where is the best place to get them? I really have no idea and should i invest in a bait pump?
p.s I live in western part of Sydney, in parramatta.
Thanks
Kind Regards,
Howe.
