  1. I think it could be a Clark. Not sure what the model is though. Mate has a 4.2 and it so close to identical to your boat, I almost thought it was his. Dave.

    Anchor Rope

I just used a 300mm foam float and a 4" stainless ring, both available at boating stores. Spliced some of my 8mm nylon rope onto the foam float, then splice the other end as a loop with a gal thimble so that the length between float and thimble was about 2'. Then attatched the ring to the thimble with a dee shackle, all done. just undo your anchor from the chain and feed the chain through the ring and reattatch the anchor. Dave.
  3. Awesome unit I reckon. Have only had mine a out for a couple trips but am totally wrapped in the unit so far. But, having only ever used black and white units before, I might be easily impressed. Great colour, clear easy to see screen, easy to use menus, all the information you need. The only gripes I have with the unit is that while in sounder mode you cannot have the water temperature displayed as a number, only as a graph, and that the only time the backlight on the keys comes on is when it is set in night mode, which means the display is a very dim monochrome picture. Only minor things I know, and overall am one very happy camper. Dave.

    Anchor Rope

If your going to use an anchor yanker, you don't need to worry about the rope being thick enough to handle easily. I just put new anchor and rope on my 5.2M Haines, I went with 100M of 8mm nylon rope, it's stronger than the 12mm silver rope that most people use and you can store so much more of it, I would have room for probably another 200M of the stuff in my anchor well, wouldn't have a hope with 12mm. I also use 5M of 3/8 gal chain and a reef pick and a home made anchor yanker. Dave.
  5. Thanks Pete, Yeah, fuel prices are a bit of an issue, but it won't be a problem unless fuel consumption is ridiculous. I used to fish out of a 21' haines that had 350L under the floor and we had to carry extra juice to do a 100Nm round trip, don't really want anything like that. The V17L sure is a sweet looking rig, but don't see many for sale though. I think it will be 17C I end up with, just gotta do abit of work to my current rig and sell her before I start shopping. Thanks. Dave.
  6. Hi all, Am looking at buying a boat to do a bit of reef fishing off Rockhampton/Gladstone area. I am leaning towards a Haines v17c at this point, anyone who owns one seems to love them. My dad had one when I was a kid and we used it for offshore work as well as crabbing in the creeks, with a 175 Merc it was also a rocket! Just wanting to know what size outboards people run on thiers and what sort of economy/range they are getting from them. It would also be good if you could give me some aprox performance figures as well. Thanks. Dave.
