  1. good stuff, shame about the trawlers tho. you might do well if your down currarong soon, i stopped off there for a dive on thursday while on the way back from further down south. there were big schools of big kings cruisng around in the bay between the wreck and honeysuckle point, feeding on gars in the middle of the day. ive rarely seen them that close in before. i think you might do well on them cos theres obviously a few around down there atm.
  2. good stuff mate. iv been getting some big flattys in the lake too recently, they seem to be feeding pretty aggro at the mo. dreaming of the m+ model. im gunna try and catch her this arvo.
  3. i was fishing off the rocks at bluefish today saw you out there, that boat did look very stable in the conditions. How were the schools of bait out there geez the mutton birds were loving it. was amazed not to see many bigger predators out there it looked like it would be absolutley firing. ah well thems the breaks. nice baot.
  4. The whitebait are a pretty gun bait for big flatties i reckon, in narra lake at any rate. My PB for there is about the same as yours and from the same area i think (back half of the lake), and the big ones have all come on whitebait (although some fairly large, live poddy mullets i have sent out have been bitten in half quite a few times, im guessing by monster lizzards). they seem to hit the whitebait pretty hard rather than sitting on it, which i would guess is why ganging them works effectivley and as long as you can get the bait out there somehow they will generally hook themselves pretty easily (in my experiance anyway). they have pretty ordinatry vision so your bait preso isnt that important im my opinion.
  5. nice place to fish down that way hey. i remember a few years ago, was in a canoe paddling around near the closest bommy to the wreck (from currarong). a school of kings came up around the boat, there mustv been hundreds if not thousands ranging from rats right up to big brutes. they were only a metre or so below the surface, insane to see, reef sharks/bronzies cruisng around with them. if only id had a hand line ey! ah well it was pretty encouraging to see a school that size that hadnt been netted or destroyed by fish traps. in a similar vein, a few months ago was worming casually off the main beach bout halfway between currarong and culburra and a school of large tuna came in, probably to about 25m of the shore. i didnt know they came in that close. a couple of inexperianced mates were fishing with light rigs, me and another bloke had our heavy gear in the car but it was parked about a km away. woulda been nice to have something big out but sheesh it was pretty amazing just to see fish of that size coming so close into shore. got a week off uni next week think i might head down that way if the girly lets me
  6. went down to bluefish again looking for the salmon but it was not to be unfortunatley. mates 21st last night meant fishing didnt start till about midday, and as low tide coincided with this time frame i prolly shoulda known it wasnt gunna be worth the walk. nonetheless, beutyiful day and better than staying in bed the whole day. will go have a proper crack in the next few days. also a mate just told me he caught a 130cm port jackson shark off the collaroy pipe this evening, reckons the sandbanks look productive for jews over the next few days..
  7. nice catch mate i love going fishing down that way can get some mad fish
  8. thanx for the welcome folks barrykrocker yeah was fishing with floats, pillies 1-3m below the surface. and yep i definatley had a blue nose after fishing down there in the chilly weather and james yes, it is pretty easy to walk around from bower but it takes a fair while, especiially if youve got big heavy gear. much better to walk down around the sewerage plant and go down the rope, it looks mutch scketchier than it is. however, its probably a good idea to watch someone else do it first just so you know where to walk. once ya get down theres places that you can fish with relative safety but most of the spots ya definatley need cleats/boots, and prolly not a bad idea to have rope aswell. in a south east swell a lot of water can come up onto the platforms, and if the swell is rising it seeems to rise fast there. ive got some spearo mates that have gone in a couple of times there when it has been a neglible swell and an hour or two later theres no way back in; long swim round back to shelley. but if ya watch whats going on and are sensible ya should be right. i will be back for those sambos soon, hopefully get some pics of some biggies in the next week fingers crossed
  9. Hey all long time reader first time poster love the site gotta be the best for sydney + no wankers, rockin anywayz, went bluefish on monday arvo lookin for the sambos, had seen the big school that works the Heads a few days before when fishing for drummer (got 1 around 3.5kg + blown away by a few others) and thought id have a go for em cos there were tousands of em about. fished from bout 4pm till after dark, the school wasnt there but man it looked good, water wwas rough as guts huge amount of water movement. right on dusk two VERY big runs from the sambos felt more like kingies, 1st one pulled my hooks (ganged pillies) 2nd one went the big old jumparoo (thus i knew they were salmon not kingys) and spat me, the 2nd guy was a biggy prolly the biggest sambo iv hooked well over 6kgs i reckon. my mate who was bottom bashing got a few wrasse and an eel thereby winning the arfternoon but i claimed the moral victory seing as i (nearly) caught the best fish. had to pull it after that because the swell was getting dangerously huge + the scramble back up the cliff isnt much fun in the dark/wet will be down there again, maybe the sarvo if the lets me off the hook...hopefully a big sambo will jump on it cheers dave
