Did you go out today? I pulled the pin based on the forecast. How did you go?
-
I was going to head out tomorrow (Tuesday). Seabreeze says about 0.5m swell 10~12kts but BOM says 1.5~2.5m swell @ 15~25kts, what to believe!?
-
We got one on a 13 inch lumo sprocket hit the long rigger, hour and half fight, had within meters of boat 3 or four times then spat the hooks. Gutted hookup was early 7am, second hookup was on a deep diver purple about 11am lost that too
Jeez, bugger. Thanks for the info on the lures. Are you going to try midweek?
-
Well what an amazing yet frustrating day. Just about everyone found the bust-ups NE of browns, i have some video of the commotion, thousands of birds and fish going crazy. We must have made 50 passes for no hookups (i should have just thrown a stick bait into them!). For those of you who did hook up, what lures were you using?
Anyone going out through the week?
-
interesting was itjust the one report?
-
any hints boys? Currents look to have pushed well South, off Kiama?
-
What do you think of SST's and current? Anyone planning on launching out of Sydney? Reports have been thin on the ground these last few days. Have the fish surfaced anywhere?
-
cheers for that. I was about the same distance offshore at JB.Unfortunately it was pretty quiet

Nice work Dave well done. Can see the rolling swell behind you in the photo!
how far offshore did you trek to find the YFT?
After fishing off sydney 2 weeks ago and catching some small YFT and getting smoked on one big fish I had been hanging to give them another crack. Looking at the water I decided to go out bit further south off shellharbour.
Ran out to our starting point in terrible conditions this morning and dropped the lures. Stripies kept us busy from the start. Got a big run on the 15kg gear with a small pre rigged skirted lure which was catching most of the stripies first off. This fish definitly not a stripy. my bad luck kicked in and pop its off. Lures still running and the rod beside me goes off. We get a decent YFT to the side of the boat and just before we grab the leader the hooks let go. So i wind the one that got busted off in and the pre rigged skirt leader connection to the hook let go.
We kept at it in the same area for more stripies and finally land one more very small YFT and called it a day at 1:30
This Tuna fishing is seriously doing my head in. I think if i lose another good fish before landing one i will jump over board and let the sea take me.

South!

I was out all day Friday and today. We had four hookups on Friday (landed one fish, 35kg, dropped a huge specimen, got some video of that will post soon) - the point is, it was insane on Friday, fish smashing the surface everywhere, you almost couldn't miss. Today was in stark contrast, not many boats landed a single fish. If you are heading out, go South, at least 10~20mile south-east of the Canyons, that's where the boats (that got them today) managed to find them. Goodluck!

what about a ratchet jockey wheel?
-
wow, nice work. got to be happy with that
-
fantastic, sounds like a great day (does she like the boat now?...)

I've found kings can run up to the boat like you say (when hooked) and when they get sight of you, they often then decide to go for their first run

Hey guys. Hit the harbour last thur with my brother who was up from Albury. On the water at 4am. Squid, slimeys and yakkas in the tank by 6am. Headed out to the colours for a while but nothing happening. Came back inside and started sounding out the markers. Decided to anchor up at one, even tho nothing showing, because we were sick of driving round. First bait down was a live slimey. Got smashed before it hit the bottom. After a short fight it busted me off on the mooring. Righto i tell my brother, we are staying here!!!!! Had a total of 8 hookups and boated 3. 106cm, 103cm and 95cm. They def prefered the slimeys in the beggining, but took live and dead squid and also yakkas later on. All caught between 8am and 10am. I was using 20lb braid with 25lb fluro leader. Always used to look at other boats and wonder why they were catching all the fish....well it was finally my time today and i loved every moment!!! Other boats around us but we were in front by far. Guys we were not using flashy or heavy gear so all you young fishermen out there dont stress about having cheap gear or anything like that. Matt.
Fantastic, great report. What sort of rig were you using for the livies?
-
Fantastic, well done! Where abouts where you fishing?
-
we were out in the bay all day Sunday too, trolling livies about for hours - zero hits
:{

Hey Mate,
the kings move around all the time so its best to look for them around structure. be it wrecks, reefs, the washes, or channel markers. Find Squid over kelp beds and Yakkas around deeper wharfs and markers.
I was fishing out of Sydney Harbour.
Thanks for the tips, much appreciated and congrats
-
awesome effort. Can you give me some hints on where to get livebaits, and a place to start fishing for kings, where you in the bay?
-
congrats
great post!

wow is all i can say. that is just over-moderation IMO. then again i would hazard a guess this is the wrong place for opinions.
