  2. Hey all, I have an old Mariner 55hp 80's model that has done me very proud for the last 6 years. Lately it has been running a bit rough when the revs are low and idling badly. Fine with abit of throttle. I'm thinking the carby may have some gunk in it?? No mechanic seems to want to open it up, something about not being able to get gaskets and opening up a can of worms??? I was wondering if a fuel treatment like spitfire plus might sort the problem out??? If not what are my other options? Cheers
  3. Greetings fellow raiders. A bit of a strange request but on sunday we lost our surfboard tow in surfing off longreef in the 10ft swell. I came off on a bomb set and my tow partner came and picked me up but the board never surfaced. After 3 hours and four jetski's searching no cigar. Very strange??? Its a black carbon fibre "itchy" tow surfboard with foot staps. Its a strange looking thing and may hopefully wash up on a beach somewhere?? If any one finds it or hears of anything please post up here or PM me. There is a reward for its return. Cheers Dave
  4. Hey all, Just wondering how hard it is to pull apart and clean up my outboard Carby. I've got an older style 55hp Mariner Marathon. Early 80's model The old girls running a little rough and have been told it just needs a bit of a clean. I'm pretty mechanically minded and handy. Any ideas or tricks would be great. Also any idea where i might find a service manual?? Cheers Dave
  5. Hey Guys, I've got an old mariner 55hp Marathon engine i'm reconing its an early 80's model. Had it now for over 7 years and no problems, plenty of joy. Lately its still running fine at speed but when i'm idling or going super slow the engine will cut out. Then to re start it i have to put it into neutral then give it some revs and it will kick over. I've changed the sparkies, cleaned the fuel filter and fuel lines. Still the problem remains. Its almost like there is a blockage somewhere, not enough fuel getting in when revs are low.Maybe the carbies need cleaning out. I've been advised not to service it because its so old??? Could i pull apart the carbies or am i better off with a mechanic??? Anyone recomend one around the eastern suburbs?? Cheers Dave
