  1. Good to know. Would explain why it was hooked on top hook that was through the yakkas nose.

sbf1, nice harbour king, and good tp see the young fella involved. Just 1 thing, it doesnt matter how big your live bait is. Kingfish attack from the front, not from behind.

  2. Decided to change it up this morning by chasing some kings. Got my boy up at 4.00 and headed to drummoyne to launch the boat. We headed to Clifton gardens to stock up on some livies. We burlied up and got a few unfortunately that were all super large. Whilst I was stocking up on livies my son was catching bream, whiting and trevally. We ended up with a feed in the hour.

Motored over to the wedding cakes on first light and got some burley going. We got a few rods out and it only took 10 minutes for the first one to buckle over. I got my boy to bring in other rods as it had some weight in it and was running like a train. After a short fight I asked for a gaff but it wasn't in the boat! We netted in an average net after a few attempts.

The fish measured 89cm. Things went quite after that so we called it a day.

  3. Guys I was on the water fishing with my young bloke and watched these guys catch this. They target them and it was caught on a banjo shark as bait. I followed them back to Roseville ramp as they slowly dragged it back so my son could see it. They claimed they would get it stuffed by a taxidermist.

  4. Hi,

I have been advised of the below tomorrow. I have no view on this as I have not read the proposed reforms. George

This Thursday 20th nov 1pm until 3 pm at Parliament House Macquarie street Sydney the commercial and recreation sector will join forces in protest against the amendment bill, commercial fishing reforms and the proposed marine park from Pittwater to port Jackson.

  5. Had a day off today so decided to target some bream on the flats of palm beach. Launched at 4.00 am and fishing soon after. Got a good feed of bream, whiting and a couple flounder by roughly 7.00am

I threw some bait scraps of the edge and noticed some yakkas and pike feeding then suddenly a hammerhead shark cruised up and had a feed! It was only 2.5 meters of water.

I decided to do a few drifts for some flathead. I got a couple and then I was on to something big. It was going to be a challenge on 6lb line. It surface roughly 20 meters from my boat and I noticed it was a hammerhead shark!! I fought it for roughly 10 minutes and then it cut my leader. It would of been between 125-150cm big so only a baby really.

Are these common in the pittwater shallows?

  6. I don't get any pickers. The pickers start picking after sunrise which I am done by then

    Awesome catch mate, well done!

Can i ask do you go through alot of squid per trip due to pickers?

Everytime ive tryed to fish for the jewies i end up losing all my bait too fast so usually bring it up to midwater and chase the kings instead.

Do you fish right on the bottom or a bit up in the water column?

    Cracking pic too!

  7. Hit the water nice and early targeting jewfish around the 5.16am change of tide. Started a little slow with a 50cm and a 72cm Jew and a nice 65cm flathead. Shifted spots on sunrise to some deaper water and came accross a nice fish that went over 100cm. Back home by 9am. Pretty happy.

  8. Scratchie,

After taking a while to unhook it as they go wild and clamp to you while trying to handle them with all the sharp pieces. I considered keeping it as i was craving lobster mornay but being that it was sydney harbour i let it free. I will now need to pay $200 for a 2kg live lobster to forfill my craving.

Could anyone confirm is it would of been safe to eat?

  9. Hi,

With the weather warming up and no more friday night footy to watch i grabbed my son and the boat after work on Friday and went for a local Sydney Harbour fish.

In aim of fishing the low tide change we searched around for livies but couldnt find any! We had plenty of time to kill so we scanned around looking for a new spot to try. We found a new deep hole so we anchored up baited up and waited. Not long after we got our 1st little jew (59cm). Everything was quite for a while until we got another at 65cm. Once again it went quite so we started checking our baits. So son said he must have catfish on as he had a dead weight on his rod. As it surfaced in the dark it started kicking a splashing so i grabbed the torch to see what it was and what a supprise - a crayfish! 2kg of cray!! The hook had hooked it from one of its legs.

Anyway we baited and waited again, it was until roughly 10.30pm that we got some better size fish one at 73cm and one at 78cm.

All in all was a nice peacefull and semi productive evening.

  10. Hi,

The fishing plan to fish open waters look somewhat shot due to the forecasted weather for the weekend and was wondering if there are any Hairtail being caught at the moment?

Secondly which of the bays would be sheltered enough to fish comfortably and produce fish?

    George
