  1. Nice fish Jake, I've been meaning to go and get some of those Zmans and different Squidgies, to try and expand my range a little. Keep up the good work that Sambo will be yours soon enough.
  2. Nice Fish there Daniel, love to hear the sucesses on SP! Am yet to crack a Jew myself but you've got me all rev'd up.
  3. Nice report mate, sounds like a good session. Nice few Flatties there and inventing a new technique you really had a very productive Monday there Should catch up for a session again too, we can help each other with that pesky Net that keep wandering away.
  4. Mate I made the Massive mistake of trying to tie a mono backing on my reel when I first started and all I can say is don't, whatever knot you tie never comes off the reel properly, it gets caught. I have done this and I am happy to warn others, I thought it would be cheaper and would work OK but it was horrible to had to strip off all that braid after my first trip and throw it away. I would say either just buy another spool of braid or I actually keep 1 rod with mono as I normally 'lend' this one to friends or the Mrs. Also, for some fishing I prefer the mono, squid and Flathead if they're not too shy. Good Luck
  5. Great report, nice work on the squid, keep the mrs and yourslef happy that's a mighty effort
  6. Nice Flatty, great work for a lazy afternoon flick.
  7. I'm no expert and only just learning myself. But I strongly recommend using the search function on the forums for Squid and I hit these beauties a while ago. I was enlightened when I discovered that the squid strike on the sink motion of the jig, so to try and prolong this time by 1. using a lighter jig and 2. just waiting as long as you can between actions (of course you have to keep it out of the kelp). But these insights really helped me and as everyone has said the better Jigs tend to sink in a balanced way and this makes it more attractive to the squid. Good Luck and like everything once you break into you won't look back. http://www.fishraide...catch-squid.php http://www.fishraide...e-squidding.php http://www.fishraide...ney-harbour.php
  8. That's gold I'm going to have to remember that recipe
  9. Nice bream, all those fish taking pilchards on gang hooks is pretty crazy, didn't know bream went for pilchards... Well done you learn something new every day.
  10. Hi All I went out Monday night armed with some new advice and new gear to try out at Canada Bay and was really excited to land 2 just legal Flathead and a Flounder in about 1 hour, with some chopper tailor mixed in to make it complicated. Considering I only caught my first fish on plastics The Saturday before I was pretty stoked land a few and have a bit of fun. Had to play around with retrieve rates and style and swap a few plastics before finding the 2in Gulp worms in natural, it was a great little session and awesome after getting my first fish on plastic on sat to get my first Flounder and First legal Flathead, all on plastics. So massive thanks to all the post'ers in this section and in particular Jake and Stan all the tips and advice is starting to pay off. Cheers Guys.
  11. Stan That was for the tips and advice you helped me out with at Parramatta. Cools to see the Hardbodies getting smashed, glad you had an even better day on Sunday! Alex
  12. Swordy, Yeah I think jdanger should definitively get a badge, he helped me a out a great deal and was even kind enough to lend a novice a spare rig which was brave! and BTW great work on the new site it looks great and keep up all the good work Admins, you make it really easy for a Novice to get into fishing!
  13. Hi All Just wanted to post up a massive thanks to jdanger for taking me out Yesterday to show me a thing or two about plastics. We organised to meet up at Canada bay for a soft plastic session. Due to some late night shenanigans jdanger was a little late for the incoming tide but he battled through the morning to show me some tips on tackle, technique and few spots he likes. We actually ran into predator too and so I was inundated with advice and at times the fishing took a back seat. It was crazy to see jdanger on plastics and predator with a hard-bodies hooking up bream and swapping technique tips and knots as well as favorite spots. But the icing on the Cake a nice sized Bream to break the drought of donuts I've been having and get my first fish on Plastics . So thanks once again to Predator and Jdanger for all the advice and hopefully we can catch up for another session some time soon! Squiggy
  14. Love the Canada Bay report mate, I live nearby but had been venturing up to MH for my Fishing, I didn't really think you'd get anything around there. Might have to give it a try one morning or evening. Nice Sunset too, the best thing about fishing are often not the actual fishing. And I love the Plastics too, that walk sound like a great idea.
  15. Nice fish mate, yeah I reckon if you can let a big one go, hopefully they'll make someone else's day a little later down the track too.
  16. Nice Fish, great timing for those fish all in an hour and Half!
  17. Great to hear you liked it so much. I grew up there and to this day remember a big barra I'd just hooked trolling an estuary jumping and spitting the lure straight back at the boat it wrapped the canopy and boat about 3 times before lucky embedding in the canopy and not us. But they are definetly very fun even the undersized give you a run for your money.
  18. Nice squid mate, that looks a whopper.
  19. Wow mate that's a great effort. I'd be impressed with those fish on anything but on fly is amazing!
  20. Looks like a great trip mate, very jealous! Hard luck on the Jew's but with that bag of perch bream and whiting its hard to feel sorry for you.
  21. Nice Whiting there mate. So I assume from the wharf? I've heard Dolls mentioned a couple of times, must get down to try it out, someone else mentioned they go for Flatties there too.
  22. Cracker of a Bream mate, surely you could have stretched him out to the big 50 mark?
  23. My Name is Alex, from the Inner West Sydney, But will travel to fish. I'm available Weekends, some weekday evenings/nights I have my own basic gear, but no boat. I have some basic fishing knowledge from growing up the NT, but can't seem to translate it to Sydney/NSW. I am keen to practice targeting species a bit more, as I seem so just sort of get a line wet at the moment at best. I am keen to do either boat or land based and most of all to make a few mates who are into fishing as well.
  24. Hey guys Don't know if you're keen to expand again but I am a Novice to Sydney Fishing having learnt North of the Border. I have most my own gear, just want some company and Local advice? I am in the Inner west area so Lane Cove sounds good. Cheers Alex
