  1. It's made it in to the Herald today. http://www.smh.com.au/environment/weather/botany-oil-spill-hits-wildlife-local-anglers-say-20140325-35fft.html
  2. Beauty!! Thanks mate. I'd say I'll be shore based, unless I can find a boat hire place (then I'll definitely get out on the water). Sounds like I should be checking out the mouth and ocean end of the lake and beach for a bit of action. Will see what I can rustle up. Thanks for the tips!!!! I've had some experience with those big south coast tailor. I had a cracking session on Tailor in Burrill lake some years back, I think between a mate and I we hauled in about 30 decent sized fish in under an hour, but I've never really targeted them, we just happened to stumble on them by accident when we had a few mangly old pilchards that we were just throwing out to get rid of. One of the best fishing days I've had. So I'll keep an eye out for any Tailor while I'm there.
  3. Hey gang, I'll be heading to Durras Lake with some friends for a few days and having never been I'd thought I'd see if the Raiders Brains Trust has any suggestions of places to fish. Any flathead, whiting, bream or blackfishing suggestions would be awesome. Thanks!!
  4. I haven't tried it myself, but I've heard that underneath the Harbour Bridge on the northside turns up a few blackfish occasionally.
  5. Thanks guys. I've been over the website and it's not specific when it comes to plants. It lists crustaceans and invertebrates specifically, but no mention of the greenery. I'll give them a call when I get a chance, just thought someone on here may have come across this before.
  6. Hey Raiders brains, I was thinking of heading down around Bondi for some fishing, I live around here and apart from some squidding have never bothered trying to fish, but I've got a bit of time off so thought I might try it. I've been enjoying a bit of blackfishing lately and thought I'd give that a shot. (If anyone has any suggestions for good spots I'd welcome them, but thats not why I'm writing this.) I know there is an intertidal protection zone around a lot of Bondi, but I can't find any info on the DPI website that tells me if that extends to the cabbage that I want to use for blackfishing. Does anyone know if that's protected? Naturally I don't want to be using it for bait if its protected. Any help would be awesome.
  7. Awesome haul!!! Were you just using the cabbage off the rocks there?
  8. Great article Hodgey, here's a couple more after a quick google search, overall these don't necessarily make a case either way in terms of the effectiveness of disposing of individual fish, but worth reading... http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/feral-carp-carpet-our-rivers-in-the-murray-darling-river-system/story-e6freuy9-1226146044712 http://www.feral.org.au/pest-species/carp/ http://www.gamecouncil.nsw.gov.au/docs/mcleod.pdf http://www.feral.org.au/pestsmart-factsheet-impacts-of-carp-in-australia/
  9. Based on the previous posts I could be unpopular for saying this, but part of me thinks it's irresponsible to deliberately release feral, destructive fish back into the waterways, no matter how small a difference one fish makes in the grand scheme of things. Just because something is not illegal doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. I am prepared to eat my words if it was proven that releasing them is less damaging to the native waterways than disposing of them humanely though.
  10. Geez that Bream is a nice catch!! I used to live down that way and never bothered to go fishing there... wishing I had now!!!
  11. Very nice. I've been hitting the blackfish in the harbour a bit lately, and you've inspired me to try to find a spot or two in the ocean now!
  12. 10!!!! Ouch!!!! I was glad we only had one. I was happy to part with it for the experience, I think I may have been less impressed about giving up 10!!
  13. Ps. We discovered the rock pool had access to the harbour under a giant rock after watching him. But still... Amazing!!
  14. My guess (based on zero knowledge, but a quick google search) is that it's a Spotted Wobbegong. We couldn't believe it. We got totally distracted from the fishing and spent a lot of time just looking at him (and feeding him the odd frozen prawn).
  15. So we were out blackfishing yesterday off Middlehead. I'd caught one nice little fish (about 35cm) that I put in the keeper net and left in a rock pool that was about 1ft deep. A few minutes later there was a loud splash and the net was moving about, more than I expected my fish to be doing. We went to investigate and found this...
