  1. An X-Rap, ghost minnow I think is the colour. Any colour works though really. I'm going to try a garfish fly next time.
  2. Headed out today to the South Sydney FAD. Saw the FAD around 7:30am and beat 4 other boats to it. Second cast hooked up to a nice Dolly on 8lb, took about 100m of line and gave a few nice jumps out the back of the boat. As I was fighting the fish the other boats arrivedat the FAD, though I didn't see anyone hook up to a fish. As my fish neared the boat Dad tried to catch some possible followers of my fish but none were to be seen. Landed the fish, went 75cm and a PB for me. Few shots taken and in the tank it went. As we headed back to the FAD we realised the reason why we hadn't seen anyone hookup was because a few people had jumped into the water. By the time we got back there everyone had left and the fish were no where to be seen. IFS
  3. I hear you buddy. I tried on Monday morning and its the first time in many months I've not seen one fish hit the surface other than baitfish. They were so confident they were swimming right out in the open (they usually hang practically under the rocks). IFS
  4. I went out on Sunday and we couldn't find either the Port Hacking FAD or the Botany Fad. They must have been underwater with the current as a few other boats were in the area looking for it as well. All we got out there were about 12 or so Stripies, they were everywhere. IFS
  5. I've found in my experience full moon's are best for my fishing, squid and surface fish which I go for. That is closely followed by the new moon which is nearly as good. IFS
  6. I reckon 8lb flurocarbon leader is light enough for dollies on a calm day let alone that choppy Sunday. Probably have to go further out next time. IFS
  7. I went out on Sunday to the near FAD and came across a private FAD also. We caught one 40cm dollie for 3 hours of fishing and didn't see any others. The bloody water has cooled off 1 degree down to 23 and now there is nothing out there even the stripies have gone. All the fish must've moved along with the 24! IFS
  8. I can support the rods coming apart theory. I used to have an 8ft graphite rod which I used to get nice long casts. After a couple of months it would come apart every 50 casts or so which was really annoying seeing as it would fly into the water 2m below me Now I use 1 piece for light stuff but I've got a 24kg T-curve spin rod which is two peice but I don't think such a good rod would give me any troubles. IFS
  9. I havn't heard that one before, I couldn't tell the difference with or without my Shimano sunnies. It's a case of low swell and wind to be able to see them. IFS
  10. Headed out on the 10th off Sydney, there were none about at the Botany FAD, just some undersized Kingfish. Temp needs to rise a couple more degrees. There were flying fish everywhere too, all about the size of big dragon fly. Though nothing was harassing them.
  11. My fave is the brown 2.0 Yo Zuri, best prawn imitation But if I'm using the Yama's I go for the premium ones which have holes in the lead weight. IFS
  12. That's a nice Trev, bloody Pike are back You need some live squid next time
  13. Another +1 for single hooks. Or another option is to get some small trolling hooks and run a twin split ring set up at the rear of the metal, as the fish will be attacking the lure from below you want the hook point pointing down. Good luck next time IFS
  14. Its the same thickness as 10kg mono
  15. G'day raiders, I've recently been using and discovering the wonderful world of eBay. On the weekend I got a very nice reel for my birthday and I need some braid for it. It's an 8000 Twin Power and is ever so smooth So my question is, has anyone used Arche braid? I have found it on eBay and it looks the goods but I would never buy it without any good reviews as I know looks can be deceiving. I can fit about 150m of 24kg braid on the spool which I think will be enough as it won't be used targetting anything bigger than a decent sized dollie or child sized tuna. If not Arche would you recommend Bass Hard or just Fins? Thanks in advance, IFS
