I am going to be getting a kayak near the spit bridge for fishing tomorrow. Any good spots to try around there? I was thinking to start in the morning at low tide but could be convinced to hit it at high tide in the afternoon. Are there bait shops near there or could I rely on lures? To all, Thanks for the tips. I need to buy a rod and reel for while I'm here without spending too much. Any clues as to what size gear I should get? I went to one shop that recommended a 7' light rod in the 2-5 kg range. Does that seem about right? Thanks Lindle

I am going to be in Sydney for 3 weeks starting on Monday and would like some suggestions about where to fish and what to fish for. I’ll be staying in the central business district area but I may have access to an auto on weekends. I plan on bringing only a little tackle and purchasing a rod and reel in Sydney. I am most familiar with fishing for striped bass and bluefish in New England (US) from rocks, jetties and tidal creeks and rivers. I have an assortment of hard and soft lures and various hooks, swivels and weights. Are there any places in the CBD where I could fish after work or if I explore further on weekends. I may rent a kayak for a day in the Harbor. Any suggestions or help would be most appreciated. Thanks.
