Totally agree with what has been said - take a right as soon as you turn into the Garie beach turn off.
I have a couple of questions too:
1. Is there a pub down there? The last time I was there (a long time ago) there was a wheatherboard shack that I am sure was a pub. I have been told that the surf lifesaving club take kegs around by boat. If so how godd would that be?
2. can you camp there?
thanks everyone
gav
There is no camping allowed down at burning palms

Took my eldest son out on the bay yesterday for a quick fish.We headed over to the breakwall to get some livies and had 5 little yakka's swimming around in the live bait tank.We then anchored at the end of the breakwall, sent down the first yakka and started rigging some light gear the rod buckles over he's all over it telling me get out of the way after a short fight i look down in the water thinking it's a rat king but no its a jewie once in the boat he's jumping up and down screaming it's a jewie a quick measure and it's 56cm after a couple of phone calls to pa & mum we put out another yakka
this one lasts about the same time before the rod buckles over again with a little help to get the rod out of the rod holder he was fighting again this one gave him a bit of curry another jewie was in the net a bit bigger 62cm more phone calls another yakka went out but anchor had pulled off goes the rod again this ones mine with the line sceaming off a nice king at 68cm was in the net moved back to where we first anchored and sent down the baits again for no luck, headed back after an hour, got home and ran to all the neighbours showing his catch very happy boy..

Nice photos Nudge and as Peter said that gutter alongide the sandbar looks like it would fish very well at night I reckon.... have you been spending a weekend or two down there having a fish have you Graham?
Cheers
jewgaffer
Heading down this weekend and again for farthers day weekend. My brothers have been down there and only managed bream and a heap of small flatties.
How good is that gutter!! That would have to hold fish for sure.
Hey Nudge
How long a walk is it from the top car par at garie to Burning Palms?
From memory you can camp down there. With summer coming up that would be a top spot for a camp and fish.
We use to camp at Garie beach a while back and fish the Nth end rock ledge - you get some great fish there
gav
The walk from Garie is around 4 km there is a car park at the top of the hill which is only 2.5 km to the beach and they stopped camping down there around 10 years ago.

Got 1 more day of fishing in before heading back to work after 3 weeks off. got some squid in the morning for bait and headed off for my favorite bit of reef near the light at solander. Set the burley trail and for the next 3 hours got nothing but sweep hooked up on something big and after 15 minutes decided to head for the anchor. Sick of sweep so switched to a soft plastic first throw a small king 3rd cast after that a nice red a couple more cast for a baker and called it quits.

Well done With that many around do you think they are spawning?
-
Kurnell groynes. I personally don't think it matters what type of jig you use sometimes the cheapest and oldest ones work!
-
Just got back from a quick fish down the local groynes took two packets of plastics in my pocket.Walked half way down the groyne and spotted a few nice size squid. Bugger no jigs so turned back around ran home grabed 2 jigs and ran back. Still there rigged up the jig and dropped in front of the first one hook up then the next straight on the third didn't like what i was doing and made a b line for the nearest weed bed.
