  1. I'll put my two bobs worth & 20 yrs experience in hunting Jews into this.

A lot of the comments I've read make me laugh. :074: Are the opinions expressed relative to the areas that people fish or do they relate to the fish themselves?

I have kept a diary of all my trips, on all moon phases, & certain patterns have emerged.

No run = no fun. Bigger tides are best.

Fishing a couple of hours either side of the tide changes is best. Around dawn or dusk even better.

In Sydney Harbour the week leading up to the full moon is best. The week after the new moon is good & can be better in certain spots.

It may be true that from a boat in the H/bury more big Jew are caught during the day but all systems are different & I know that from the beach & headlands it is not true. A rising to high tide at night 1-3 days after the new moon is the gun time.

In general a waxing moon ( new to full ) is the most productive time to fish. A waning moon ( full to new ) is usually very poor.

I have had this discussion with a few top Jew fishos & this is some of the knowledge they have passed on. The records of my catch rates verify this to the point that in my last 15 sessions from the beach at night after the new moon I have landed 24 Jew. That is in & around Sydney. The last 15 sessions outside of that moon phase in the same spots have seen 3 Jew caught. Make up your own mind.

If you are bait fishing self caught bait is a must.

    Cheers,

    Grant.

    i was talking hawkesbury.

come on if where getting serious about talking jews we wanna fish the premier jew system.

after reading what you have said jewhunter you are basically saying what had been said through the post.

dont know what was so funny :wacko::wacko:

  2. It definitely makes a difference if you know when the prime times are. Prime example, no no nos big two fish that he caught, last year, one month apart and exactly the same time relating to moon phase and tide and bait, and same spot!!! Explain that.???

    spot on

  3. I don't know about all this phases of the moon talk. Greg Joyes cannot work it out, and the latest research by NSW DPI didn't show any positive correlation with moon phases and feeding patterns of Mulloway. So heres what i reckon. Get out there and put the hours in no matter what and sooner or later youll get one.

    davo

a jew will feed any time obviously to keep their stomachs satisfied.

the larger runs in the water enable the jew to ambush there prey alot easier therefore they use this to there advantage which therefore increases your chances of getting one.

us knowing this will then help us persue the jews with the most precision and less time invested.

Greg Joyes can work it out mate trust me. he is a seasoned jew fisho who takes people out, not necessarily gives away all his jewfish secrets on jewfish secrets.

  4. Mate wouldnt look past Blue Pacific Marine at Dural just behind the Caltex on Old Northern Road opposite Liquorland, very genuine, fixed pricing and never has any ''well this needed replacing'' Ive used him since he bought the place, I had a problem with starting the motor when it was cold so I took it down to him and he dropped everything to help me out and best of all didnt charge me, surprise surprise,

but definatly give him a go.

    cheers,

    mark

nice bloke very honest but very pricey,

couldn ttake my boat back ro dave for that reason

    cheers anyway

  5. look champ with out a doubt your drag has to be set in strike so that when it hits your bait the hook will engage. that drag setting should almost be your fighting drag( only adjust if need be).

there is no need to let em run anyway all it does is increase the fishes chance of spitting the bait.

    good luck mate

  6. Shame about the motor but big  on the Jews.

At 133cm that fish would normally weigh about 24-28kgs but it looks a bit thin. 19 -21kgs I reckon.

    Top fish, well done! :yahoo:

    Cheers,

    Grant.

she was on the skinnier side whilst the smaller one was fat as.

definately in the teens i suspect

  7. hey fellas headed out this morning for a quick 3 hour stint on the river.

from word go i new we were going to have a very interesting day.

got to the boat ramp and my motor was running like a dog, infact it was running at 1/3 of its usual power.

anyway we soldiered on in hope of jagging an early morning jew.

finally after a long short ride we got to our spot which was engulfed by tailor, decided to spin a couple up and chuck em down for livies.

after our first coffees not much seemed to be happening all baits untouched, me thinking weird but it wasn t to long before i hear the beautiful noise of braid screaming through the 6500 i pick up the rod and all goes slack. dam.

1 minute later and bang the squid goes off after decent fight up comes our first Jew of the year.

although not massive defintely increased our hopes for a succesful session.

Anyways after that not much happened the tide had finished and we decided enoughs enough so we packed up. only problem being so did the engine spewin i spend the next hour and half trying to work out what was wrong, got her started but gee running at 10%.

during the break we decided we will now fish another tide so off to our second spot which you can see in the pic we were there no longer than 5 minutes and one of my 6500 go off then slack again. spewin.

i was ready to throw the towel in but no sooner and i hear another rod going off, this time the fish was going know where and we now boated our second jew in 4 hours.

enough was said and us happy fellas decided to call it a day.

the fish were not weighed but the larger one was 133cm any estimates?

  8. if you ever head out to brooklyn the antique shop sometimes sells em live, otherwise very very fresh.

on the other hand not to sure of the name of the shop but a fishing shop on lyons rd drummoyne sometimes has live prawns.

  9. That guy in Port Stephens was John Davis and he tagged about 9 of them in one season. I know his son quite well, The Jetski was set up perfectley livebait tank, cuttingboard rod holders kill tank the works.

he lost one set up after flipping it. goodbye all his gear.

The jetski mob offered a free jetski to whoever gets a marlin on one they didn t live up to there promise but i guess he can boast that he got one from it
