Hi raiders, can anyone recommend a reliable and honest mechanic ( is that an oxymoron?) for mercruiser engines. i am in the sutherland area and there are a few marinas, but i would love some first hand advice. thanks kirill

  6. Hi Raiders, I have been looking into getting a chart plotter and a radio for my boat and was looking for any advice you are able to give me with regards to the different brands that are out there. I have a lowrance fish finder and was considering replacing it with a fish finder/tracker unit. Do all the different brands have different maps? Are some better then others? Thanks for your help in advance, Kirill
  7. thanks harold. i look forwar to getting off the bank
  8. Hi all, I am very new to boating and buying my first boat. I am looking to use the boat for fishing and a little wakeboarding. Can someone please tell me if Fiberglas boats stand up well to salt water vs freshwater? I am not looking to go our far off shore or anything, I am just wondering if different materials stand up to saltwater and freshwater differently. Are boats generally made for one or the other or are most able to handle both? Also, what makes a boat 'safe'? I've seen some people claim that their boat is unsinkable, what make them so? Is it the shape/size or type of hull or what? Thanks very much for your help. Kirill
  9. thank you very much for all your advice geoff. i am starting to agree with you about it not being worth it and will look more into a domestic boat. cheers
  10. at this stage the trailer is going to cost me an extra $1000 (is this a good price for a trailer?) all up with all the duties and taxes and extra's (like bmini top, storm cover and a few others) i'd say the boat boat will end up costing me around $28-$29k. having never owned a boat can somone give me a rough breakdown of how much fuel a 190hp engine will use as opposed to a 120hp? thank you all

  12. Hi Raiders, I have been looking into getting a first boat together with my dad. We had a budget of about $20k and after having a real good look at the sydney market over the last couple of months have decided to look into importing a boat. I have some contacts in china and have found a couple of suitable boats for what seems like a good price. However i am new to boating and would really appreciate any input from people that know boats. Having done some research this boat looks like its been designed using the bayliner cuddy models as a blueprint. Here are some pictures of the boat: The size of the boat is: 6 x 2.3 x 0.95m The engine we were going to get was a mercruiser 190hp, but there are 120hp and other options for the engine. I have more details on this boat but don't want to flood people with information. Any comments you guys might have are very much appreciated. Thanks, Kirill
