  1. where abouts at PS ?? Im going up there this weekend
  2. Probably should mention too, If your going for a land base fish around deepwater, it might be best to bring a cricket box and tape it to your arse. Jokes aside, I often go down there late arvo for poddy mullet and have, on occasion, guys have tried to pick me up.....
  3. 1 More thing, just after a braid to chuck these little SP's 1000 miles away. Can't decide between - Fins - Nitlon - or Bass Hard In 6lb. Any suggestions ?? (i've read through the forums but most of the posts are out of date) Cheers, -Mikey
  4. how much are the stradic's going for at go fish at the moment ?? 2500 size.
  5. Cheers guys, guess no ones used the saros yet. I might just grab a stradic then, 2500.
  6. Hey all, The mrs brought me a Shimano Rack raider for my birthday and i'm looking for a reel to suit it. Will be used for SP of course and my initial thought for a reel was going to be the symetre but then i noticed the new Saros and after reading this review (http://www.steelheadstalkers.com/saros_review.htm) I think I might give it a go. Still a bit unsure of what size to go, 1000 or 2500, I was wondering if any of you lads have given this reel a go. I like the new lip design. Cheers, - Mikey
  7. Shortly after you left we decided to call it, but as i was reeling in my line i managed to hook another rat, so we decided to hang round for another 20 mins throwing out pilly tails and using them as lures but nah nothing else at all. Headed off to a few other spots after that but didn't really manage anything. The bay was very very quiet for us.
  8. There were plenty of rats around there 2day. I was in the blue and white boat to the right of you. I managed to land a 30cm with, i counted 4 of his mates following him. My old man got busted off, he was fishing 4 kilo mono with a 1.5 kilo trace. I told him he was crazy to which he replied, son I'm here for trevally or bream, I'm not here for kingy's. So I called him an idiot 10 mins later he managed to hook up a decent king (the thing leeped out of the water) but of course with a 1.5 kilo trace the thing laughed at him and busted him off. 2 seconds later my old man pulled out my 40 pound out fit. I looked at him and said, what happened to the trevs and bream. "Bugger em" We were just fiishing with pilly tails and a prawns. It was a good day in all, the wind managed to stay down till about 10 - 10:30
  9. The reason i went for an ugly stick is because it'll never break and will last forever. When buying my rod they guy there showing me the rods ask why i was buying an ugly stick. I told him that and the said "yep, fair enough, I could show you some nice graphite rods but if you look at them the wrong way, they'll break"
  10. Yeah i'm buying a new setup (hopefully tomorrow) with a 2-4 kilo rod.
  11. My set-up at the moment consists of 2 rods, both 4-8 kilo ugly sticks with Shimano BR 3500 with 5 kilo mono line, 4 kilo trace. A few months ago me and my old man went out with one of his work mates for an over night fishing session up the hawksbury and ended with with around 25 - 30 fish. A mix of bream, whiting as big as my arm, flatties and an 80cm jew. He has been fishing all his life, 30 odd years and told me all you need is 1 rod and 1 reel for everything. Everything river based / just outside that is. He was fishing with the exact same setup as above and landed the jewie with that rig. (On the way home me and my old man stopped off at the tackle shop and got ourselves some new gear ) So thats my story heres the question: I live 30 mins from botany bay and after being smashed the other week on something huge, i want to occasionally aim for kingy's. I'll prolly fish the bay on average, Once a month. I want to put 30 lb braid on one of my Baitrunner's. When fishing in the river i will more than likely use these 2 rods just to cast out and let the bait sit while i use my SP setup (that im buying very soon) In places like the bay, I'll use the 30lb braided rod baited with squid and livies to aim for kingy's and my other 5kilo mono rod for bream, flatty etc fishing. Is this a good idea, given that i dont go fishing every weekend, and i dont want to buy a new setup because of the ammount of fishing i dont do. I do realise that constanty catching kingy's on this rig would stuff the reel. This one is more of a side question, i've never really understood the weighting of lines. I mean i know it relates to the breaking strain, but if im fishing for bream with my 30lb rod, will i feel less if holding the rod, than i would if i was fishing with the 5 kilo rod. I wouldn't think so given that braided has almost 0 stretch and i'd have a 4 kilo mono trace on it. Thanks guys, any help is appreciated
  12. Hey lads, i'm looking for a shimano prefered (or equal quality) reel to go with my 2-4 kilo ugly stick i'm buying vey soon. I plan on fitting the reel with 6lb braid and it will be use primarily for SP fishing from a boat, aiming for bream, fallties, whiting, your usual run of the mill river fish, and aswell as the occasional hook line a sinker fishing for those days where i just wanna kick back in the sun and let the fish come to me. (if only...) I was just browsing through the shimano site and saw the ammount of reels they have and my jaw dropped.. 1 quick question though, i've never really used SP, so whats better, egg beater or overhead. price range is from $100 - $200 - Cheers guys
  13. well, me and my old man were fishing with prawns, pilchards, white bait, chicken gut, slimy mackerel and chicken breast with cheese. Just bottom bashing with a bit of trolling. I think between us we got 10 bites and we were fishing from 6:30 will 10:30. Only got 1 fish in the boat, a 20cm flathead. Weather was good, we tried both runway's, around bear island, hot water outlet, drifted for flatties, the main channel, trolled around the heads, watts reef, middle of the bay where the tankers dock, nothin. Out of the 80 boats that were fishing in the bay i did not see 1 pull up a fish, i think it was because of the cold water thats come in in the last day or so. 18 degrees. the water was
  14. OK today i went round looking for some FINS brand braid (all reports say its awsome). the 4 tackle shops i went to in my area didnt have it I think one of em had tufline xp but i read somewhere that its not that great for casting ??? Anyway can anyone point me in the direction of any shops that sell it. I'm looking for 12 lb and 30 lb. I live in the banks town area and am willing to travel 30 - 40 mins if the lines that good. oh and how much - Cheers
