  1. Seeing money isn't an issue, if you're going off the beach get yourself a good surfcasting reel and match it with a nice surfcasting rod, like 14 foot. Do some research for yourself, maybe better to buy overseas and get it shipped, I use multipliers so I can't recommend a specific eggbeater outfit. 10-15lb braid line with the right gear will go 100 yards with the easy cast. You need to use a heavy shock leader for surfcasting at least 10lbs for every ounce of sinker. Look at using a rig clip so your gear is streamline when you cast, I like the pulley pennel rig off the beach myself.
  2. If you're after an alvey get one second hand from an online bidding site, save some dosh.
  3. I prefer an overhead reel in this situation myself so I haven't looked into this greatly. If you're on a budget it might be better to grab a rod second hand off gum tree/ebay/classifieds, I'm really not a fan of cheap spinning reels. I'd advise you to look into the surfcasting reels from overseas but they might come in over budget. Shimano Baitrunner 8000D looks a much better option than the Fin Nor, from the one minute I spent looking. $239 at motackle, $145US (with free delivery) at reelfishingdeals, it's a US site.
  4. Email the Berkley site, if they won't ship to Australia they should send you a link to a US tackle shop who will. I've bought a few products like this.
  5. Is that guy fair dikum, he's not a feild tester is he? As you get spooled resitance increases and thus the drag naturally increases, if I'm loosing line on a run, there are plenty of circumstances where I would decrease the drag.
  6. 40 years ago? I was still greasing my line a few years back, lol. Didn't like the lack of stretch in braid. Not a fan of the idea I see, thanks for the feedback mate, just thinking aloud here weighing up whether or not to go through the hassle of trying it.
  7. Floating line is great but it tends to get blown around in the wind which is quite annoying. Anyone tried a semi floating line?
  8. I recently did a bit of research into a new blackfish reel. At the price of $169, I think it's much better to get an Okuma online, either the Averta or Sheffield. For improved performance you can replace the stock ball barings as well.
  9. If you're just looking for a pair of poloarized fishing glasses the best bet is to grab a second hand pair of Maui Jims off ebay/gumtree. I wouldn't drop $300 on a pair of glasses and take them fishing.
