  1. Nice fish, going to give the local Bass a go this season when they start. Could be different with all the water coming out of dam. May do a trip up there to gods country it I can suss the area out with the yak. Don't know about the ones on tv now but generaly if the yak is too short like the cheaper ones it will woddle rather than track straight like the dearer touring ones.
  2. Often when we fished the rocks for the big ones, a strip bait of Striped Tuna would out fish the live yakkas. I recon pillie pieces with no lead would have brought the Trevs undone. It's their fav meal.
  3. When I said West of the bridge it was just my opinion. Fish caught at places like Balmain, Greenwich and the mouth areas of Lane cove river may well be quite safe to eat. Although that river is not the cesspit the parra was it would still have to be pretty bad as you go up river. Some big Bass up there to. I catch good Bass from poluted Nepean waters but I would never kill a bass even if I cought it up north in clean water. To be honest small fish full of bones are a pain in the arse to eat. Cold by the time I pick through the bones or the 2 fish fingers you get off a little legal flattie.
  4. $50 a kg for Flatty fillets and people are still buying it. Is it just another Sydney thing. Who is getting the big cut. Drove up Nth Qld a few years back and once over the boarder fish and chips cost a few bucks like in the old days
  5. Mate it's our own choice what we keep for the table but as a kid we used to see that massive factory at the Silverwater bridge at night shooting flames. Now with age I know it can never be cleaned up. I won't eat any bottom feeding fish west of the big bridge, but have caught some stonkers and big catches from Gladesville area. That's just my choice, but the thought that big lizard or bream may have been up in the silt upriver makes it an easy choice for me. I do think the lower harbour is looking cleaner then ever though. Sorry to offend
  6. Light gear with pencil float is sometimes a bit easier to hook up and yeah the big ones can fight. In the old days before we used squid, a big mullet pinned on a 10/0 was the top bait for the big river Dews
  7. Hope youre kids don't eat the heavy metals fish too regular and big old fish are the worst. Great encouragement to let em swim away though
