3 Hour Blackfishing Session at Chiswick Today
poohbear replied to Ron Howes's topic in Fishing Reports
He is not called the black-fish whisper for nothing. I use same weed, same spot and same float but he catches twice as many fish as I do. Life is not fair Well done Howsy, ill be there next time Poohbear -
Hi Luderick Wow great catch I was fishing with Howsy at your eastern suburbs spot and I think that we got chatting. Sorry didn't know it was you. Was it you that you showed Howsy some of the floats your dad made. He kept talking about them after you left about the floats wishing he could get one of those for himself. We persisted in the lower harbour spot and got 3 but it was quiet as you say. Would love to know the spot in Balmain as I live not too far from there. I have tried the Ferry Wharf and the rocks next to it but very sporadic. Well done Poohbear

Went for a masterclass with Howsy on Saturday to the Georges river in 3 hours he caught the fish in the pic and I caught a 15 cm throwback Il keep learning , maybe one day ill catch more than him. Regards Poohbear

I use a size 12 long shank with a small piece of prawn Just need to hope the jacket gets to it before the millions of undersized bream which are usually in the same spot Poohbear

Breams at Half Tide Rocks on Iso setup (video)
poohbear replied to quochuy's topic in Fishing Reports
Nice video What size and brand iso rod did you use? im thinking of getting one Did you use bread for the bait as well and how big was the float (0?). Cheers -
Great work I live not far from the Cooks but wow what a polluted river. I have caught a few small tiddlers there but nothing so impressive and snags everywhere. I usually use one of those iso floats and seems to work well. I have seen some decent sized blackfish caught there.First time I went there, I caught a used condom. Almost put me off fishing (and some other activities) for life. Regards Poohbear

Yep they go hard and like to bury themselves in the weed, making it easier to dislodge the hook. But Howsy makes it look easy no matter what the size of the fish. Regards Poohbear

Went out with Howsy today in the screaming westerly Cold strong gusts 5 hookups and 3 fish Decent size 40 ish and above
-
I went out this morning and it was horrendous Bitterly cold and float being blown horizontal Well done - 2 fish in these conditions is probably 6 under ideal conditions. Poohbear
-
Yep Was at the same spot on Sunday and got 3 and dropped 1. All 3 caught within a few minutes of a ferry leaving. Hard to believe but there you go. Poohbear

Try the St Georges River Club, there is a bridge over a creek in the park behind the club. Jump down and scrape it off the bottom. Pongs like hell and needs a good wash and dry to look presentable but it makes catching the fish more enjoyable. Poohbear

Ice block blackfish weed burley - Dumbass or genius
poohbear replied to poohbear's topic in Fishing Chat
was hoping to take the sand out of the equation and increase the likleihood of the weed getting down to the fish rather that floating as you see even with the most dense river sand. Regards Poohbear -
Hi Guys Was wondering with all the issues wether cutting up weed finely, freezing in ice block holders in the freezer with some water, taking to the spot in an eskey and chucking a few in to get to the bottom and release the weed is a reasonable idea. I suppose it does not give that natural weed floating from the top look but some of it will get to higher levels once dissolves. Someone probably thought of this and discounted it a while ago but would like to hear what the pros on the forum think. Regards Poohbear

yep I usually start without berley and after about 15 min in no luck then start the berley.

Probably all times. Better with moving water for some drift so changing tide usually the preferred time for the seasoned blackfishermen. My philosophy is rather simple - if there is a line in the water with some bait you are more likely to catch fish than if you are sitting in your armchair at home listening (or trying not to listent) to the wife . Regards

I have caught them and seen heaps caught at San Soucci Park on the north end of Taren Point Road. The water is about 8-10 foot deep and fishes well off the little wharf. No weed (of the fishing type) there so have to import it. Also gets a bit busy so get there early. It is also a bit exposed so dress for the weather. Lots of other friendly blackfishermen there and very helpful. Just to the left of the wharf under the bridge apparently fishes well but have not seen this myself. Hope that helps Poohbear " TTFN = ta ta for now "

mmm ill let Howsy know Back to the drawing board cheers

Interestingly they were active in spells - usually related to a ferry docking Howsy thinks that the ferry churns up the bottom and acts like a berley fan. Im a starting to believe he is on to something. Another explanation would be that the Blackfish are keen to catch a ferry ride but maybe thats a bit far fetched. Cheers

Hi All Went out this morning with Howsy my Mentor Freezing North Western breeze had my nose, ears and other peripheral parts somewhat numb in a few minutes. Berleyed up and landed a few but dropped a few as well Howsy was the chief fisher and I just accompanied with a couple All released - till the next down Thanks Howsy Cheers Poohbear " Fishing is only and addiction if you are trying to give it up "

Looking for some advice from the experts here Looking to buy a blackfish rod but would like to use it for other light surf fishing if possible Saw the Wilson Blackfish rod - very whippy as all good blackfish rods are designed to be Fibreglass and $105- looks great but maybe a bit too flexible for light surf fishing? Was wondering if the graphite shimano catana coastal light 10 foot 6 inches may be more versatile. Graphite and maybe less whippy and therefore possibly more versatile and $ 79 Thanks in advance Regards
