As Jeff said use Willy Weather. The closest point to Bobbin Head is Ku-ring-gai yacht club which is at Cottage Point.

I've always been a fan of high tide however this year has turned that on it's head.
Some of the best sessions I've had and my brother has had (without me) have been at low tide.
We have done quite a few sessions at Avoca and I think what has happened is the lake was opened some time before Easter flushing the mullet out and then those mullet had nowhere to go but the gutters at low tide.
It seemed the flathead were super aggressive in those gutters even my kids scored good sized flathead at Easter casting just a few metres.
These days I just get out there whenever I can as you never know.

I was at Waratah Monday night for zero. Seemed all boats were also zero.
They are being caught though so still worth a go.

Hi Guys,
Had a quick two hour run in the boat on Thursday and caught this hairy in 35 metres.
Obviously a big surprise. Made me wonder, what's the deepest you have caught a Hairtail offshore?

G'day Raiders,
Managed a few days off with the family over Easter and had a few beach sessions with the kids.
Plenty of fish around with small schools of mullet hiding in the shallows.
My daughter beat us all with a 51cm flathead, followed by mine at 50cm, and my son at 47cm. 3 others were caught at around 40cm.
All on whole pilchards on gang hooks.
We also managed a few tailor, dart and whiting on pippis.
Water is still really warm at around 22 degrees.

Hi Dave,
Basic details below however before I get in to it there is a Radio Course that you can do and from that our instructor said they would prefer you to use the Marine Reacue App rather than the radio. This is so the radio is clear most of the time.
Having said that you should call in regularly to make sure your radio is working.
The app is really easy to use once you set it up with all your boat details and they can track your course as you go along. If you miss the log off time they will call you on the radio or your mobile.
For the radio you call in on Chanel 16 with:
Marine Rescue Sydney this is (boat name) (boat name) (boat name). Boat name is repeated 3 times.
Marine Rescue Sydney will then ask you to change stations and ask what you require.
You then ask to log on and they will ask you further questions like location, how many people on board and how long you will be out there.

Paternoster will work well. Most of the time I just use a running sinker to a swivel then leader to hook.

Hi mate,
Yes, you can definitely fish the beach.
The deeper holes are usually around the mouth and either side of the lake entrance. The lake is unlikely to be open to the sea at the moment though.
Jews are usually only around when the lake gets opened but you can regularly get bream, flathead, salmon and tailor.
The southern end near the flags and rock pool is usually too shallow and rarely fishes well.
Between the lake and the northern end also gets good holes but gets shallow again at the northern end near the rocks.

Ps. It's refreshing to hear that you won't be tempted to go off the rocks without cleats as I've seen heaps of people go over there.

If it makes you feel better I caught a metre + off the rocks up the Central Coast and couldn't get it up off a lower ledge. Was originally fishing for bream and flatties off the beach with pippis and decided to go up on the rocks to try and get a few bigger bream.
Of course hooked a massive jew and got him to the lower ledge. I couldn't go down, it couldn't come up. No other fisher folk around so no chance of borrowing a gaff.
A bypasser held my rod as I tried to bring it up inch by inch by hand, got half way up and line snapped.
Still hurts thinking about it swimming off giving me the bird with its pectoral fin

I once got a big bream (and heaps of smaller ones) on prosciutto that was out of date. The smell was driving them crazy!

I had a few hours at short notice on Friday night so I thought I would give the night trolling a go again.
Got out to Lion Island on dusk solo and started trolling for nothing.
Headed over to Barrenjoey on last light and soon as it was dark got two good tailor and dropped one.
Wind picked up soon after so headed home happy that it worked again.

Clareville in Pittwater is very popular with kids and boats.
Great Mackerill Beach near The Basin is nice also.
Patonga is ok in the shallow areas however I wouldn't let the kids go too deep as the sharks hang around the trawlers for a free feed.
I usually pick one of the small beaches between Jerusalem Bay and Patonga as they are less crowded and you can have a fish while the kids swim.

From memory no traps or hoop nets from the seaward side of Jerusalem Bay entry all the way west. So no traps in Jerusalem Bay and most of Cowan.

Very safe. It's an inlet so very little current and no swell. Take a light or lantern as from memory there is no pole light. I reverse the car to the end so you can drive forward off it in the dark. The breakwall is two car widths so easy to do.

It's a little further away however I like to take the kids to the wharf at the end of Kallaroo Rd in Bensville.
It's a wharf at the end of a concrete breakwall so you can drive to the spot. Great for when there is a chance of rain as you can just sit in the car and let it pass.
Lots of small stuff to keep the kids entertained with a chance of a big flathead or bream. Also get crabs there (no nets though).

A while back while I was travelling an aboriginal told me to try cooking the fish I caught (can't remember what type any more) whole on coals, not bled, not gutted and not scaled.
Theory was the scales held in the moisture and the guts added flavour.
Tasted great but must admit I haven't tried it since.
I'd imagine it would be trial and error on which fish this method would suit.

Hi All,
Went out last night with my brother, his son and my son.
Headed off from Akuna Bay at around 7pm and headed past Flint and Steel and put out some lures for twilight hoping for a tailor or two. It was dead flat, hardly any wind. First catch was a sergeant baker which is a first for me on a lure.
No tailor were caught until fully dark when we caught 6 and kept 4. It was strange trolling in the total dark trying to keep out of the way of crab and lobster bouys but the fish were biting so we kept at it. All where in the 30-40cm range.
Has anyone else had any luck doing this? I might have to give it another crack next time it's so flat.
When it went quiet we went back to Jerusalem Bay passing Flint and Steel (must of had 15 boats there - any reports raiders?) and tried some bait fishing.
Caught 6 baby jews and lost two big fish that bit through the leader. Could have been a shark as we saw a baby hammerhead at the back of the boat later.
Finished up at about 1am with sons exhausted and very happy which it's all about.
