  1. Hi Gibson, I was fishing in that spot I am pretty sure. I was staying at Dunleith Tourist Park, and those sand flats led to a nice little channel. Was using prawns as bait but absolutely nadda. Started flicking soft plastics later in the afternoon too for nadda. The pelicans appreciated the prawns at the end of the trip though. Still ate some nice flattie, just not caught by me. Haven't crossed that one off the list yet. Cheers Jezza
  2. Thanks Steve. I tried everything to get a bite. Saw 2 people out of 100 fishing over the weekend actually catch something, go figure they were both newbies who had never fished before.
  3. Was fishing up at Tuggerah Lakes this weekend. Was getting heaps of nibbles but nothing landed. Typical for my fishing but good fun anyway. Was teaching my brother how to fish...well how to cast and rig up, can't teach him how to catch anything, he might have to show me. Does anyone know this area? Is it quiet at the moment and thats why there was nothing happening? Just have to hope the next adventure is a little more fruitful haha. Cheers Jezza
  4. Maccas from your work, wow they went all out hahaha
  5. Thats what i mean by different views. Might rig one up each way and go from there. Thanks guys
  6. Thats really helpful. Thanks for that
  7. This might seem like a stupid question. Should I still be putting a swivel and leader with surface poppers? Heard different from different people so am really confused. Cheers Jezza
  8. Had just gotten married and through my Dad had managed to get a 40 foot cruiser for two weeks in the Whitsundays. My god was this boat awesome. Was not a keen fisherman at the time, but still enjoyed doing. First night we stopped off near Hayman Island for some squid fishing. Took me a little while, but by the end of the night my wife and I had caught about 25 squid. Ate them up the next day and was absolutely fantastic. A couple of days later we cruised off to a reef which the Captain said was really good for fishing. So out went the hand lines and rods as well. First few goes on the rod had landed something quite big, put up a massive fight for about 10 mins then, SNAP. Was devistated. Meanwhile my wife on the handline has reeled in a red Throat Emeporer, and gotten something else when the GT hit like a rocket. Cut her poor fingers up. I had stopped getting bites so jumped onto one of the hand reels for a go. But alas getting nothing. My wife then hooked into a shark and did her best to reel it in, but the line snapped again. Got it all rigged up again and she knew it was something big. Her response "F*&%ing Shark". She has had enough so I grab the line and give it a go. Hand reel fishing with no gloves was quite an experience and not something I plan on doing again. But all worth it in the end. Landed a juvenile reef shark (or so I was told it was). Was might impressed with myself. And was the experience that got me into fishing. Have not caught anything near that since, but still hoping it comes along. Cheers Jezza
  9. I knew I should have chucked a sickie today. Dag Nammit. Looks like a great day out. Good luck.
  10. Wallet is more full than the wife knows Thanks guys will check those all out.
  11. I got a few different ones based on the tackle shops advice. River2Sea Bubble Pop45 River2Sea Baby Crank Kokoda Popstar60mm Berkley Bass Kit. Has different ones in there and replaced the trebles as that part of it looked cheap on them. Was looking for the jitterbug but they didnt seem to have it. Going to keep looking.
  12. Thanks Dave, will keep that in mind as well. Sucks I have to wait a few weeks to test it all out. Really keen to nab a decent fish, haven't gotten once since my honeymoon and it was completely by accident when I wasn't as keen on fishing.
  13. Thanks guys, those are some helpful tips. Will make sure to put them in action and see how we go. Not getting up there for a few weeks but hanging for it now. Cheers Jezza
  14. Another question. What is the best type of retrieve for bass? Should I throw in some pauses?
  15. Any sizes in particular I should be looking at for the Jitterbugs? Or get an assortment?
  16. Thanks guys heading to BCF tomorrow to check out the poppers and then pick up some canned corn as well haha.
  17. Hey All, My brother in law has a place up near Maitland right on the river. The locals have said that there is a lot of Bass up there and to use surface poppers. Any advice on some good surface poppers to use for Bass? Colours, sizes etc would be great. This will be a different type of fishing for me, so going to be an experience. On a side note those same locals said there is alot of Carp up there and to use canned corn. Anyone heard of this before? Seemed way out of left field, but willing to give it a go. Cheers in advance all. Jezza
  18. Thanks guys, I will have a look at some of those spots.
  19. Great effort mate. Would live to be out on the water today. Stupid work haha
  20. Hey All, I am heading up to The Entrance for some camping, and our site is right on Tuggerah Lakes. Is this a good spot for fishing? Never been up this way before, so thought I should check with the experts Looking forward to wetting a line, been a few weeks. Cheers Jez
  21. Will definately be trying a different area I think. Was not the only one not having any luck. About 20 other fisherman catching nothing but sunburn haha. The time I went wasn't the best, but was stuck with it due to kids etc... I will definately try the wharves as suggested. Will be better when I get on the houseboat up that way in Feb, then I can try heaps of different spots. Still always good to get out of the house and near the water.
  22. Unfortunately another fishless adventure. Still not a bad way to spend my first fathers day haha.
  23. Cheers all. Heading back up towards Brooklyn this weekend try my luck again. Hopefully fields better results than last time haha. Will keep you posted and hopefully break the drought. Jezza
  24. Cheers all. I know it could be worse and could have caught nothing. Looking forward to the warmer months and some more fish. I will keep persisting as i still love it even without the fish. Thata just an added bonus.
