  1. Ladies and Gentlemen, given they're predicting rain throughout the weekend any thoughts to delay the Blacky Challenge till next weekend? eheh
  2. can't wait for the blacky challenge!

  3. Please count me in for this. Thanks, Vu.
  4. booooohoooo forget the barometer, it's me that bring you the bad luck Pete....
  5. Haven't been to the Ovens for years!!! Does anyone know if you can still abseil down? Last time I went some locals filed down the rope anchor... I saw some massive kingies and tuna caught off their on live bait. Cheers, VG.
  6. Cheers Mullet, catch you soon mate.
  7. as you know MulletMug I was at OMH on Sunday also just around the corner...unusual but hardly any downs at all!!! Don't know why the conditions were not conducive to producing blackies...it's normally very reliable there! 4 other blackfish fisherman at OMH also went home empty handed...nice day out on the rocks though but left around 4pm as the swells picked up...
  8. I jus got a call from a mate of mine telling me that the person who got swept off Hill 60 on Sunday was a soccer friend of ours...it's so tragic and I am shocked to find it's someone I know. They still haven't found the body. I went fishing on last Saturday myself and rogue waves were aplenty so I went home without wetting a line...but I wish others were better educated and had better judgement on the dangers of rock fishing. Please take care everyone, our destiny is in our own hands. RIP our mate "Messi".
  9. Hi All, I've got a few spare hours while the misses is at the fashion expo at Moore Park on Saturday and I'm keen to do some blackfishing in the Botany Bay area. I know La Perouse is a decent spot but wandering if anyone can fill me in on some other spots worth considering. I will be fishing between 11am and 3pm, perhaps those intending to fish at that time can let me tag along? I normally fish the northern beaches so not too familiar with Botany Bay for blackies. Thanks in advance guys. Cheers, V.
  10. Black trevally taste great! If only I could catch them in good numbers...does anyone know where these things frequent? And the best bait for them? Thanks.
  11. G'day Spizza, I fished Narra beach near the lake's entrance on Thursday night...as it got dark the dart and whiting were around but I found as soon as it got dark the sand crabs terrorised any bait presented...I landed one of them to prove it, but the little bugger was too small for the frying pan. Nice night out though, had the gutter all to myself and my trusty mini esky full of Coronas. I heard Roosterman mainly snared shovel nose sharks and rays...will have to catch up with you for a beach session soon Roosterman. Cheers. Vu.

    Bonito

G'day Raiders, is it just me or are the bonitos late in arriving this year? I tried my usual spots for bonnies but the schools do not seem to be haunting the rocky headlands just yet...I love the initial surge from a hooked bonnie! Anyone else had much luck with them? If you have would you please suggest some places to try, in particular on the northern beaches. Cheers. PS Bonito sashimi...delicious!
  13. Hey thanks for telling me Jin...damn locals indeed. Surely the council put the nail there in the first place so they are in fact, damaging public property? I go there once or twice a year but won't climb down without the nail in place. I'll stick to the Northern Beaches then, possibly North Head. Cheers. Vu.
  14. Anyone fished the Ovens lately? I've got a day off Thursday and thinking about spending the morning there. The weather forecast on Seabreeze looks pretty good with less than 1m swell and less then 10 knot winds. Obviously I'll re-asses before I make the climb down the cliff. I've seen some nice snapper caught there so this is the target. Kingies would be good too but unlikely. I'm going with a mate, but if any fellow raiders like to join me just PM me. Cheers, Vu.
  15. I've got a bank holiday on Monday 6th of August and plan on spending the day chasing Drummer and Blackfish off the northern beaches ledges...I haven't had much experience catching either species so if anyone is planning to do the same perhaps we can catch up and share some ideas. I wanted to go out with Alex Bellisimo but he's way out of my price range. Please PM me if interested. I am leaving from Gladesville so can offer a lift if required. Cheers everyone and have a good week.
  16. Hey thanks for the prompt reply guys, I'll give it a miss in that case and sleep in.
  17. Hi all, I'm a little confused about how to read the forecast swell conditions by the BOM. Perhaps someone can clarify it for me. If the intent was to do some rock fishing tomorrow morning, what sort of swell is safe to fish in? Obviously different rock platforms behave different but my question is in general situations. For example tomorrow morning 10/3/07, www.coastalwatch.com.au predict a maximum of 2.5 feet swells, whereas www.bom.gov.au predicts 2-3 metre swells for the Illawarra Coast. Give that it'll be low tide also in the morning, will 2-3 metre swells be safe to fish in? Please offer some knowledge if you have experience in reading the conditions. Thanks.
  18. You're right there DV8...spent about 2 hours last time for about 20 prawns, enough for bait only. Did catch a blue swimmer though which was surprising. Caught in front of the Caravan Park. The only way to catch big prawns these days is to get a boat and catch the prawn run up in Swansea. Cheers.
