  1. Thanks for making the effort to respond gents I've been calling around and there really isn't much available and most have waiting lists so I thought I'd give this a try. Worse case I might need to make a few runs down... New Years, Syd>Hob start, Aus day etc Will keep my fingers crossed something pops up - Thanks again Dunc - Any details you've got on the $200 a month I'd take - cheers mate Dave - Nice to hear from another Mariner owner
  2. Howd'y, Just wondering if anyone's interested swapping moorings over December and January? I'm located at Holmeport Marina in Mcarrs Creek Church point but I'm looking to move the boat to the harbour for a few month's. The guy's and facilities at Holmeport are first class, free tender service which operates from 8>6 accross the weekends and on the hour during the week. Dingies that can be used for access to your mooring etc (not be taken away) Fuel, Shower facilities, secure parking, close to Coasters retreat and access to the Pittwater and close to the Hawksbury etc etc.. The mooring itself appears well serviced and in pristine condition. Due to the radius of swing a boat around equal size or style would be the optimal candidate. I'm looking for access to a mooring or birth somewhere on the harbour, preferred Wollomolloo, Double/ Rose or Rushcutters Bay, Middle/ North Harbour, Manly etc but I'm flexiable.. So if anyone's interested in a trade and depending on what the swap is.. cash adjustment from my end for compensation if needed but I would really appreciate hearing from you. I have attached a pic of my boat for reference and the mooring location. I can be contacted anytime Luke (0412) 665005 Thanks BTW My Boat is a Marina 2800 - Approx 30"
  3. Pelican: Thanks for your repsonse some very good information I hadn't yet considered. To be quiet honust I was a whisker away from buying the 50 and mounting it up & taking my chances but I'm glad I took the time to do this post... you guys have certainly swayed that decision! - In a good logical manner. Squizzytaylor: Good to here other's experiences to reinforce the decision. Thumbs up mate Huey: The decison is now made to remain "status quo". I'm getting that feeling a might have been asking more from the boat than what is capable...might be time for an upgrade Can anybody reccommend a good outboard mechanic to verify the modifications on the Northern Beachs Mona Vale & beyond? Any oppions on what she might be worth $ ?
  4. Thanks for your reply Huey. The boats not insured and probably not worth it, but as you say if involved in an accident this is an issue which is worth considering. Have you seen damage caused by an overpowered transom before? do they crack or buckle & what are the weak points?
  5. Howd'y, I'm looking for some oppions on fitting a larger HP outboard to my modified 385 explorer? What are the known consequences apart from void insurance etc? I'm currently running a Yamaha 2cly 25 CV which has been modified to a 30HP. In most circumstances (fishing, trolling etc) this combination works ok but I'm looking for more power to enable the occasional pull of a knee board and tube etc... The Hull has a transom weight rating of 85kg the motor I have in mind is approx 74kg SS Tohatsu 3cly 50HP no tilt/lift or electric start. I don't think weight would be too much of an issue as the 50HP weighs only a little more than a 20HP Honda 4 stroke! Also, I don't think useing the 50HP combination when fishing would put too much extra stress on the transom (not looking to exceed the hulls ability in the available conditions) but what about the occasional tube pull etc..do you think the stress forces would be too much? I have included a few photo's of extra's fitted to the boat which might help explain why currently 30HP is not enough...dual fuel tanks, batteries, floor and casting, bait tank, console etc... Looking for oppions guys?
  6. Howd'y guys, Check out the yellowfin I picked up outside Nara Inlet on the whitsundays in November. Not sure what was better the sailing or the fishing. Also caught a Barracuda & a spanish mac but no pics of them! By the time we finished having x3 meals from the tuna, fish was off the taste bud menu
  7. Thanks for all your comments guys Dorado 2. Yeah I was thinking about the carpet thing... Do you have any probs with the stuff stinking like bait or being marked by guts & stuff? I was thinking if things get to hot maybe a cut down non slip mat like you see in a restraunt kitchen. Fishrunner. Mate I can't wait to try the watersnake, I've heard good things about them but they haven't been in the market long to establish a bad reputation either! Time & plenty of will be the best test for this product. Will certainly let ya know my findings. I know I'm not in the right forum section for this topic but can anyone give me any tips for fishing on the Pittwater. All I seem to catch are piddly bream the odd taylor/ flounder and that's it. Now I've got the bait tank any tips for catching spots or rigs for yakkas or squid? somthing that will help me bring in the big guys...I know I'm asking for the secret information but i'm getting desperate to catch something larger than what could survive in my fish bowl!
  8. Two thumbs up for your work on the quinny mate... great job! Is that 40 yammy the 2 cly model which is fairly light weight? If it is the same model, I would really like to hear how it performs trolling/ ideling/ fuel performance etc.
  9. I don't know fellas...I guess time will tell with the heat! Anyone else had any issues using c-plate? The T-Top offers some protection!
  10. Pete, Thanks for your comments & the tech info was very helpful! Cheers Aussie Basser, The pics are a little deceiving after being significantly scaled down. The cav plate is pretty much in-line with the bottom of the hull, I had to raise the motor approx 30mm. The boat if you didn't make it out is a 385 Explorer. The outboard is a budget 25HP CV Yamaha (short shaft) but i had an old 30hp Mariner which had a melted piston so I changed the exhaust/ inlet manifold & carby to the yammy so it's now 30hp. Seems to get along pretty good. I've installed a 12ltr bow tank + 25ltr rear tank + x2 batts and all the other fitout items and the boat handles better than when she was bare plus carry x2 blokes and pull a knee boarder no probs!
  11. Howd'y guys, Just finished installing the JW 54lb leccy and home made bait-tank, can't wait to try it out!! Sorry can't seem to fit all the photos in, can only add a total 100K file size is that right? R Luke A few more...
