  1. Hey raiders. I feel like sometimes we focus so much on our boats, buying them mods and toys, that we forget about our trailers that carry our boats around. With lockdown putting the brakes on my boating I am giving  the trailer a full overhaul. Dropped into the local tyre shop where they supplied me a bunch of old ones and proceeded to drop the boat onto stacked tyres in the garage. Completely stripped her down and have ordered new hubs, bearings, some new rollers, reflectors, new lights, jockey wheel, and some black Sunraysia rims. Took the wire brush drill attachment and went to town on the old girl (1993) for a solid weekend removing any surface rust and flaky bits. A good dose of rust converter and a soapy bath and she was ready to paint. Etch primed and top coated the trailer has a new lease on life. One last coat today and will start to reassemble. Now I can get back to buying the boat new toys knowing she is been carried in style.

Ev, for the extra driving (car) to Patonga, unless you are staying there for a few days, Parsley Bay at Brooklyn is much better ramp with secure parking, a pontoon and new wharf with 3 lane ramp

Thanks bob, I am meeting up with a mate from the central coast and was also eyeing off the patonga pub for a beer and a meal after. Looks like a great spot to sit and look out over the bay!

  3. Hi raiders, I’m looking at launching out of dark point ramp, patonga later this week. Will be in a quinine 475 bayhunter. I will be heading offshore and just want to conserve fuel by launching closer to the heads. Has anyone used this ramp before? Any dramas with tide levels? Thanks in advance

  4. Hit the water with @dlvbwon Saturday  at the civilised hour of 3pm. (He does not like the early starts too much). We filled the tank with lollipop livies and headed to the fads. Only micro Dollies around and not eating out baits so threw some plastics and hooked/landed one but they were hard to tempt. With a load of livies on board we headed to long reef and set up a burley trail. Every bait that went down got smacked and we boated around 12 fish, landing one legal and losing a few as I moved to the lighter gear. We emptied the livie tank as quick as we had filled it and stripped the last 2 large yakka to get a few more hook ups. By catch included some decent snapper, with a good one dropped at the boat.

We pulled up around 8 and a great run back to the ramp. washed the gear at home and repacked for a morning session on the stones. I have been struggling to get a decent king in the boat lately and saw some bigger ones come across the ledges so I was in the spot before first light. I love spinning gar and was rewarded for my efforts with a fat 80 model. The only fish landed from the ledge that morning. Great to have a close quarters battle with a fighter! 5. Launched at rosebay yesterday at 5 am to the forecast 20knot southerly but no rain so that’s a win. Picked up a few squid along the eastern suburbs beaches. Yakkas were plentiful although a touch larger than the desired lollipop size. After loading up on bait we had wanted to try inside north head but unfavourable conditions forced us back inside the harbour. We dropped livies at all the usual places working our way down towards Taronga zoo and some of the more western islands. Marked large schools of bait, some holding fish but could not get a strike. Schools of busting fish kept us busy everywhere we went, ranging from finicky tailor to large mack tuna that gave us a great run on the 10lb gear. Great to have the harbour to yourself for a change!

  6. After landing a few rats and getting dusted by a hoodie yesterday I couldn’t help but have another crack at it today. Looks like the kings are starting to fire from the stones after what has been a slow start for me this year. Maybe it’s because I have not had as many rock sessions as usual but it was nice to get some legal fish after being plagued by rats in the harbour. Hoping the weather behaves for a bit longer!47EC6A7D-4DC8-4812-809F-26D8AB6A622A.thumb.jpeg.c450c4a722764f07a2a94ebd85fff9c9.jpeg

    Hey Reelcrazy,

I was there too. I think I might have spoken to you when I asked what you were using for bait as you had a hook up and you responded saying that you used whole squid and also squid strips.....was that you?

We got there around 5am and got some livies (couple of yakkas and some huge slimiest).

We put out live baits and in the meantime did some flicking on my light rod (8lb braid with 8lb leader on a 2-4Kg rod) with SP's. Caught about 6-7 rats and lost just as many....even gave one of the hook ups to my mate cause he couldn't get a bite as he has never caught a kingie and wanted to experience the fight. Problem was when he was about to start tightening the drag setting and I said "no, don't touch the drag.....if you tighten it, he will bust you up". Anyway, he fought it and fought it and turned around and said...."my arms are killing me".....lol :D. I responded...."mate, you're only fighting a baby and I brought him up half way for you before I gave you the rod, lol" . Gotta love those kings... Eventually, he got it out and he was bushed...hahaha. Unfortunately, they all went back in the drink as they all ranged from 58-62cm. Unfortunately, there was no takers on the livies and we went over to Kurnell to grab a bite before trying the runways for no takers and headed home around 11am as the wind started to pick up.

    Cheers

    Dave

That was probably one of the hobie guys mate. I was in this oneC1333E22-A332-4602-B237-FE46CC16D2E3.thumb.jpeg.bcfab19194a96d14d2c7c2fcf31eacd9.jpeg

was a great morning till that wind picked up. Good on you for helping your mate out. Wait till he gets one of these. Then his arms will be stretched! Tight lines buddy.

    Im heading there tomorrow morning.

Fingers crossed they are still there as I need a bit of fun, even if its rat kings.

You never know a 65cm model may show up eventually :biggrinthumb:

I reckon they will be. I noticed the boat guys fishing heavy gear were getting nothing. I reckon it’s 1/100 for a keeper there at the moment

  9. Hit molineaux point in the yak  again today. Was lazy this time and bought fresh squid so had a later start. 5.45am on the water and was welcomed by schools of kings busting the surface. Fished stupid light this time.  Blue gomoku running 10lb with squid strips and a 1-3kg stick running 6lb on plastics. Multiple hook ups on both outfits. Landed 10 and got dusted twice. Biggest went about 60cm. Off the water by 8.00 am. Such great fun on the light gear. There is Still huge schools of rats holding there but noticeably pickier today. Tight lines

  10. Quick report, been a while between posts..... took the yak to molineaux point yesterday after good reports of rat kings. Did not disappoint with everyone around hooking up and loads landed. Taking plastics, stripped yakka, squid and probably anything else in your kit!

Launched at first light from Yarra bay (squid are there in the west corner), High was at 8.30am and I left them biting around 7.30am. Fished light gear, simple rig for strip bait....small sinker straight to hook. 10-20lb outfits. Great fun. Just big enough to tow the yak around a bit.

    Tight lines.

Good work on the kings mate. Those gomoku rods are the worst rod in the history of ever, I snapped one on a rat !

Yes mate it’s my second one and snapped  both. The blue one and on 30lb with a 5000 Stradic, did not high stick either. Hooked a good one and tightened up a bit during a run then boom. Won’t buy another

Great to hear! Water is warmin up as you go past 9mile with clearer water and im hoping the Fads start firing soon

22.4 yesterday at the 12 with some micro dollies on the fads. Wouldn’t take anything unfortunately

  13. Headed wide today for kings. After grabbing yakkas at the artificial we pushed out early in calm conditions. Was quite busy on the reef with most boats sporting bent rods around tide change. Boated 5 all around 85cm. After running out of live baits did some jigging on the lighter gear......snapped the gomoku on a decent fish.........again....!!

good to see some quality fish around

  14. Decided to wet the yak Friday morning so headed to Yarramundi for a bass session. On the water by 5.30am, paddled up stream and flicked a surface cicada around  the snags and banks. Good amount of water and was flowing nicely, pushed right to some upper reaches having to carry the yak up some shallow fast flowing sections.  after a few boofs but no hook ups, headed back down river after changing to a floating shallow diving hardbody. Got 2 small bass in a deep pool at the bottom of a fast flowing section. Continued on for no more hits. Was a beauty of a morning with great scenery. So nice to get out of the city. Stopped at the local tackle shop there, and picked up a small spinner bait for next time as I have not tried these yet.
