  1. hmm what didn't we use lol... Squidgy fish, bugs, wrigglers Gulp minnow grub, powerbait walleye's We were after flatties with the SP's and I just dont think that there are many about at the moment as they all congregated in the channel and heaps were taken!
  2. Me and my best mate GriMo (aka Sam) picked up our 11ft tinny yesterday and were dying to have a fish so we got up at 4:15 am  and headed down to flick some plastics and use some bait!! We got about 1km down the road and the sudden realisation of oh F*#& we forgot the bait was what I thought! So we turned around came back home and Grimo got the bait whilst I turned around! We were off! We got down there at about 5:15 and were on the water at 5:45 or so! We rigged up our bait lines with beach worms first ( I was hoping for whiting) but nothing happened so I changed rigs and whacked on some Chicken Gut (aka Fisho). We put out the burley bucket and then we were flicking plastics for a while with no luck and then my bait rod moved I didn't think nothing of it until I looked back at it and realised my bail was open (don't ask I don't know) and line was peeling off so over the bail went and woah wasn't I on to something big!!! After a minute or so's fight I had landed a 32cm-34cm bream It was another PB for me and me and Grimo were on a high after having caught our first fish in our new boat! Little more of throwing plastics nothing! GriMo then caught 2 more bream one was 24cm and one was 26cm. We kept the 26cm one as he was no good! All our bream was caught on fisho. We kept fishing a few more hours and the only other thing caught was a toad fish! We went over to the channel and there were hundreds n hundreds of mullet but nothing else! All up we didn't catch a huge amount of fish but were estatic with a few good bream and the fact we had caught a feed!!
  3. Gday everyone, Just wondering what fuel ratio to use for a Marina 5hp 2 stroke engine?? Cheers, Keith.
  4. Do you guys have any idea how the current examinations work? I doubt it. For touching but not mounting the kerb (that is the tyre on top of the curb) you lose a point of your score but u lose two points because you failed to do the park. So by rights if he got everything else right he still should have passed. but it would seem the examiner said he mounted the kerb. Give the young fella a break sounds to me as if he passed.

  6. Just an asshole of an examiner then mate! They were probably having a bad day!!
  7. Mate I agree they should back off p platers and give them a chance, however I do think the current driving test (where you actually drive) needs to be expanded upon and go for longer. The Green P's test and the one after it is a ludicrous money making exercise that serves no real purpose so I don't support them but the driving test I think is OK and should maybe be longer. It just seems like you got a crappy tester!
  8. Great for toadfish lmao!!!
  9. Just seems excessive to me anyway you look at it. But that's just my opinion and if you did bag out and take them all home then good on ya. I just wouldn't do it myself!
  10. Is there any need for anyone to have 20 bream?? Like honestly it seems just greedy for someone to bag out and take 20 legal sized ones home... Same goes with any number above 5 IMO!
  11. I have Berkley Soft Plastics, Squidgies 1,2 and 4 and I have found that the Squidgies 1&2 on the same dvd are the most helpful out there. Adam Royter is a good fisherman but gets a tad irritating still he catches some beaut fish! Squidgies 4 is useless pretty much just don't buy that. Becareful with the DVD's the berkley comes in a pack for $40 with a tackle box and some good plastics and jigheads as well as the braid scissors and the DVD. Same with the squidgies DVD's DO NOT buy the dvd's on their own as they come with a tackle for the same price at a lot of shops. I made that mistake with the Berkley one and bought it off the net for $8 cheaper then the pack thats worth atleast another $20 or so. I didn't make the same mistake with the squidgies DVD though. I have had more success on SP's for flathead then I have with hard bodies and bait combined it just suits my style of fishing. Watch those DVD's get their tackle pack take their advice and you WILL catch fish if they are there!
  12. Thanks for the info Sharky. Seems like a plan.. I wonder if they will get in Lake Illawarra when the dredging is done!!

    Bass Times

Well here I was all my fancy gear $150 rod, $60 reel and lures (lost one). The old man was with a $70 combo from Jarvis Walker with earthworms and catches a 1.7kg Eel Tail Catfish! Was great to see the old man don't get to come fishing much so he was happy, I was happy and the fish went back in the water after some photo's!

    Bass Times

I am thinking of flicking some SP's and surface lures for bass today but am wondering if its too late in the season for them in the Nepean (Camden area). What are your thoughts? Do I still have a good chance at the moment? When do bass usually head for Salt water???
  15. 'day guys! I've never caught a Jewie before in my life. I would really like to catch one but have no idea. I would love to catch one on SP's!! So if anyone could let me know of some spots and what time is best to fish it would be very much appreciated! I would be land based unfortunately! I fish down Wollongong/lake illawarra and go down as far as Kiama Cheers, Keith.
  16. Date Fished: Monday, 2nd April 2007 Action: Location: Minnamurra River/Lake Illawarra Time Fished: 7am-12pm Result: Arrived at Minnamurra around 7am flicked the SP's around for an hour, working a couple of types of SP's in the mangroves and around the bridge pilons with no luck. Moved down river about 100m and My mate caught a little 30cm flathead and let him go. Fishing was quiet there so we decided to go to Lake Illawarra and try our luck. Fished the lake for about 30mins no luck Fished the ocean side of the dredge between the breakwalls and my mate caught a little 10-14cm flathead on a 65mm midnight oil wriggler. Pretty crazy the thing was half its size! Apart from that fished off the rocks as a bit of an experiment with the SP's. got a couple of hits from I don't know what but that was it also. Was pretty slow. I find that when conditions are a little sour (overcast and a bit of wind) we seem to do better then on clear sunny days...
  17. I have never had more success on flatties then I have with soft plastics!!!
  18. Oh well mate thats good fishing! though I reckon the more ya let go the better I like to keep the middle sized ones 40-50cm and let the others go. I think those poor buggers have invested way to long in growing to the likes of 65cm + for us to get a feed especially since they are the breeders and the future of our fisheries!
  19. Was this the gulp mate? Try soaking them in some water for a while!! apart from that keep an old SP bag to whack your used ones in!!
  20. Was just wondering how much success you have had with Bass and SP's guys? What have been the most effective SP's you have used??
  21. I'll be voting Labour and the shooters party! I personally believe after some research that the shooters party has it more together then other minority parties and will look after outdoorsmen (shooters, fishermen 4wders horse riders etc) Far better then any other outdoors party. I wont be voting liberal because a) I don't like my local lib candidate and Peter Debmen isn't a great candidate that does not offer better (in fact far worse) policies then Labour.
  22. If it is caused from nitrogen then why is it called oxidisation?? sifisho!! Tell me about it! Fun aye!!!
  23. I don't really see how this could be as there is A LOT more salt in the ocean and 85% of seawater is oxygen (which causes oxidisation aka rust along with moisture) (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seawater) where as the air we breathe only has 21% oxygen (to sea's 85%) as well as the ocean being 3.5% saline (which is a catalyst for oxidisation) I cannot find corrosion rates of open air vs water and salt water so this leads me to want to do an experiment. So next time I am down near seawater I will collect some and run a test on some fishing hooks. All hooks will be the same, one will be in open air and dry (control), one will be dipped into freshwater and left in the air, one will be dipped in saltwater and left in the air, one will be submerged in freshwater and the other will be submerged in saltwater. I will be using smaller hooks so it all happens faster! My prediction will be that the hook in seawater will corrode faster then any of the others with the hook dipped in salt water then left in the air will rust fast to start off with but the reaction will slow down as the moisture evapourates! I will conduct the test over 4 weeks and take weekly photographs to track the progress. At the end I will do a strength test of all the hooks to see which method of corrosion will have the worst effect. Cheers, Keith.
  24. I didn't know they were allowed? I see no problem in not using them. Though I can understand why they shouldn't be used I don't like anything being "banned" as we should all be free to make our own choices especially with something as simple as a fish hook! In saying this I don't think people should use stainless hooks and that they should have enough brains to not use them for the sake of our sport and respect for the animals we catch!
