  1. This is the latest state of the battery fitting debacle !! Barclays Marine has emailed Telwater and requested that the forwarded casting deck be extended and extra 200mm to put in three more hatches across the back of the raised platform/ casting deck.

My thoughts are they will not do that, or if they do I would have to mortgage the house to pay for the alteration.

So just to keep this topic alive lets hear what you think Telwaters reply will be and how much you think that would charge me to have them do it the extension.

There is a plane B !! or maybe this plane B and I am up to C,D, or even E I will even put a prize up to the winner a bottle of Carona with a slice of lime in it. That's what I drink at the blackwall ramp from time to timer. :mfr_lol:

Problem solved Quintrex /Telwater are increasing the front casting platform by 200 mm and is 300mm high by doing this I will be able to fit 2 Century AGM 12 volt 140amp hour along with Cteck 24 volt 14 amp charger that be protected from moisture and put in to circuit via a marine Anderson plug the apparently they have done this in the past and I assume for the same reason as my self .

  2. I have a 2014 450 Top Ender fitted with the Yamaha 40 hp 4 stroke. It is a great boat and I am sure that you will be happy with your 481 Top Ender. If you have room I would go the bigger battery size for the Minn Kota. Mine is fitted with a 55 lb Minn Kota with a 100 ah battery. With big currents the battery is too small. Another option would be to locate the batteries for the electric at the back of the boat, (one on each side), rather than up front.

Cargo 05 I have sent a PM to you ! I am at manning point at the moment I would like to meet up if you don't mind I buying my top ender from Mark at Barkley's he can vouch for me.

I have done a lot of business with him over the years.

  3. You need the bigger amp/hr batteries ...trust me

  4. Hi All a lot has happened since I last communicated on the boat up grade.

I have decided to go for the 481 top ender not a lot difference in size but better options, slightly larger motor and a better boat to fish out side, on the right day.

There is one question and that is the physical size of the batteries.

    I am getting a 24 volt 80 push 60 inch shaft Minkota.

    I wanted to put 2 Century AGM 12volt 105ah L 306.5 H 210 W 169 would these fit in to the front batter compartment.

If not may be a 2x 75 ah Century AGM physical size L 260 H210 W169 I am not sure if this smaller Amp Hour battery would be big enough.

Sorry if I have not worded things well in the size of the minkota and battery sizes.

I have sold my Trophy explorer 395 as thing progress I will up date things about the top ender I have left Soldiers Point and have come up the Manning Point have not fished here before went out to day caught nothing but had some jew fish culets and a bag of beach worms given to me this place is full of fisher people or in the old language fishman.

    Woy Woy col

Ps will put some picture in on Manning Point my be there are other people interested in having a look :)

  5. I would like to thank all you fisho's that replied to my questions about squid lures I am sorry I did not reply straight back but I have been getting things ready to go to Soldiers Point for a month. However I have taken all of the advice on board about buying the appropriate squid lures plus all the methods and practices. and I am now aware of the super squid.

I am sorry about wondering off the track again but if you are down at Patonga and ask the local pro's that's the fishing type they will tell you about the time that a movie was made down there about a giant squid and every one made a bit of money as extras and taking gear out to the sets on the bay.

I will send some pictures back under this original post if I am lucky enough to catch any squid

if you come up and I am not out fishing,

I may be down at the boat ramp giving advice to some poor fisho or in the caravan park telling some unlucky bloke how to reverse the caravan or maybe just asleep under a shady tree :mfr_lol:

    woywoycol :)

Ps I will have my laptop with and be on wirless.

  6. Hi all
Over the years that I have fished in broken bay on the run up for flathead I have caught squid I suppose you could call them a sort of by-product of the day and would never dream of weighing them in on comp day and for that matter blue swimmer as well.
But things have changed over the decades and now I have mates that go out just to fish for them.
Just before I get into my actual inquiry of all you talented fisho’s I must tell you about the day I thought I would try to fish for the bloody squid that were in plague proportion and knocking of the bait I had for flathead I could get the squid on and then if I pulled up very slowly I could see them rise with the bait and then in frustration just drop off and sink back in the depths.
Sometimes if I was lucky to get the net under I would end up only to have ink all over the floor of the boat.
So anyway I bought a lure that was called a Yo-Zuri and cost in those day’s about three schooners, I tied the thing on and dropped it over the side and in the process cutting away the excess line from the end and then as the three schooner Yo-Zuri lure disappeared down into the depth’s I realised that I had cut the wrong end of the line and that was maybe 20yrs ago this is the first time I have spoken of this matter to any one and do so in the comfort that I may never meet most of you good people.
Now to the actual question I have as I intend to have an other fish for them.

When I went to buy the squid lure I asked the bloke in the tackle shop for one he said which one!! A bit like that advertisement on milk…. I said a Yo- Zuri and he said again which one!.. my reply was I will be back in a minute came home google squid lure up and found that there was a fair number of brands Shimano, Rapala, SureCatch just to name a few and then all types and sizes with all the brands a bit like lures that I completely ignore when I walk passed them .
So at last can someone point me in the right direction on this matter of what types do you tend to user ? ...... please woywoycol :)

  7. Col - FROM 27/8/14 BOATS UNDER 5 METRES WILL BE ALLOWED TO BE SOLD ON SWAP AND SELL (see swap and sell rules)

You will need 20 posts before being allowed access to swap and sell

Enjoy your new boat - its a nice setup for fishing.

    Cheers Blood Knot

Thank you Blood Knot for bringing me up to speed on these things.

I am not sure if I do sell it, I would probably use gumtree what's your opinion on this method of selling a boat this is all new to me!

  8. Best boat. Make sure the battery well will be large enough for the size of battery you want. These boats are very smooth on the water and the Yammi is a gem. All the best

Thank you squidboy for your replying.

I will check on the battery fit up there is an other battery for the minkota in the bow of the boat I will have that wired up with a water prof Anderson plug for easy charging I have 25 amp smart charger.

I was going to do that with the trophy explorer that I have at the moment... not sure what I will do with that boat at this stage sell it or trade it

    woywoycol :)

  9. Hi All

I have just put down my deposit on a quintrex top ender 450 the pictures I have just taken off the internet but are identical except for the motor which is a Yamaha 60 h p 4 stroke plus front plate for minkota plus extra cranking battery and switching.

Plumbed 70lt live well with divider and rear plumbed live bait tank.

Lowrance Elite-5 HDI that I won about 18 months ago but never used It.

The boat also comes with a 2 way but I do not know much about it.

. That's all I can think of except that when I come home from Port Stephens I will have a Trophy Explorer to sell unless I decide to use it as a trade in.

I will not have the boat till late March or April and I am buying it from Terrace Boating up Newcastle way

    woywoy col :)

PS Can you sell Boat on this forum

  10. At this stage of proceeding I have no pictures of my fishing trips mainly because I have had no one to show them to so the best I can do is show you these ones from time gone bye taken by me wife.

Now however I now have a captive ordnance here of like minded people so it is my intention to have a go at this picture thing

Just click on picture for a date and location and bait

  13. If you want to contact us after the 5th, we can help you with everything.

I would fit an isolation switch, that way you can be sure there is no drain on the battery when it is not in use, so if for some reason you don't have the charger on, your not going to dead flat the battery.

Charger just needs to be suitable for an AGM, and I would go with a smart charger, like the C Tek, if you are setting this up to charge the battery at home and keep,it topped up, a 25A charger is way overkill, you don't need to charge it that quickly.

Dropping to a smaller charger, also allows you to drop the wiring size, and use a waterproof plug instead of an Anderson Plug.

We stock everything, including Anderson Plugs, if necessary we can supply with wiring connected, and terminals fitted ready to connect. And yes we deliver.

  14. Hi I am hoping I may be able to get some help on this matter. My battery in my tinny is in a very awkward position so I am intending to install a water proof Anderson plug in my quintrex explorer to keep a small battery charged.
The power from the battery is for lighting/ sounder/ bilge pump/ and plumbed live tank the sounder along with the other electric’s would not be in circuit when charging. However the alternate would remain in circuit it’s only a 25HP and there is no ignition switch
Connecting the 25amp smart charger across the battery may damage the diodes in the alternator I am not an auto electrician and hoped there may be one among the people here on the forum
I may have to fit an Isolation switch…… Could I get some feedback on this please?
Just one other thing the battery is an AGM so I believe there is no gas problem but who knows I may be wrong about that

  15. Hi all I just got back yesterday from a 5 day trip down south to lake conjola..... (what an awrsome place. Definitely should be on everyones lists). Me and my best mate love getting away on our camping/fishing trips.

We are already planning our next trip. We are going to head north.

    We need your help.

Can anyone let us know where is good to go on the nsw mid north coast or even far north. We need camp sites on the water. We will be in kayaks so need good fishing not tooo far of a row haha. Going to be chasing flathead, bream, whiting and even some good beach or breakwall fishing.

All advice great or small is appreciated. Thanks

  16. Hey guys

I know I'm still young to be doing rock fishing but a thought came to mind about what age I should maybe start

I will be based probably around Avoca rocks. I've taken a walk there on a calm day and it looks to be ok but definitely don't want to risk anything yet

    What are your thoughts
