Hi Raiders,
I am looking at purchasing a Generation Black rod and would greatly appreciate the advice of anyone who is familiar with the models listed below.
One of the large leisure retailers is having a sale on these at the moment but they only have the following 2 or 3 piece models remaining (the other models are 1 piece which do not suit me).
It seems to me that the Blackjack is almost the 3 piece equivalent of the Itchy Twitchy, and the Deep Striker is the 3 piece version of the Wicked Weasel.
PINSTER 642LFS Spin 193cm 2pc Light Fast 1–10g 2–5kg
BLACKJACK 703LFS Spin 213cm 3pc Light Fast 1–5g 2–4kg
DEEP STRIKER 703MLFS Spin 213cm 3pc Medium Light Fast 2–14g 2–5kg
I fish with hardbodies (Atomic hardz – 4g, Sebile Flat Shad – 2g, TT blades – 1/8oz, Sugapen – 4.3g, Sammy - 5.8g, NW Pencil – 3.8g).
I also do some bait fishing with nippers, prawns etc. and hopefully one day will graduate to some plastics fishing.
Target is estuary bream, whiting and flathead with light braid mainline (2-8lb).
I fish mainly landbased and also from a kayak. Will occasionally cast around boats and moorings so would like enough grunt to pull any wily bream out of structure.
If I’m lucky enough to get onto some reasonably sized tailor, rat kings or soapies - I'd like to have enough guts in the rod to stand some chance.
I've tried a few different rods (e.g. 6’6” 2-4kg Pflueger Trion, 7’6” 2-4kg Shimano MF Raider II Finesse Bream) and have always had trouble getting any distance when casting hardbodies weighing around 1.5g to 4g (I know it could be technique or line or reel but I’m hoping the stiffer Gen Black blanks might make a difference).
Interested in your thoughts which if any of the gen black models above would suit my needs. The ability to flick light lures a good distance is an important factor.
Cheers,
undy
