  1. Well done Mike! What a thrill that must have been! Surprised about the lack of fight though.

    Finally

Well done on your first king Neil! Hope it's the first of many! Interested in how you located the kings. Were they busting on the surface or did you see some arches on the sounder?
  3. Hi Reelcrazy, How do you manage to launch a yak from Fig Tree? Looks like it would be quite a challenge to get the yak to the water.\ Undy

    Middle Harbour

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction guys. Google maps is really off the mark for this location! Also, checkout the location for Bantry Bay!! I suggest any fishos should cross reference RMS charts and Six Maps when scouting out unfamiliar waters. Don't rely on Google apps or Earth only as they are not always reliable as these two locations show. It could save you a lot of time and some missed fish! Cheers, Undy

    Middle Harbour

Thanks Henry. If you search for Sugarloaf Bay in Google Maps, you'll see it is in a totally different location to what you say. Hence my confusion. Cheers, Undy
  6. Hi Raiders, I am a little confused with the location of Sugarloaf Bay (Middle Harbour) according to descriptions from other posts in the forums here. According to Google Maps, Sugarloaf Bay is off Killarney Drive (Killarney Heights), just west of Flatrock Beach. However, from my interpretation of posts from other Raiders, what is commonly referred to as Sugarloaf Bay is here -33.791400,151.229381 which I believe is also the location of The Steps (accessible via the track where Cammaray Rd meets Emerson Dr). This location is directly north of Sugarloaf Point in Castlecrag. Please correct me if I'm completely off the mark here! Can someone please clarify which of these is the Sugarloaf Bay that is often referred to as an accessible landbased spot with some deep water and the occasional promise of some pelagic action? Many Thanks, Undy
  7. That is one amazing photo. Thank you for sharing.
  8. If they work for you JonD, that's more than enough affirmation for me. I'll definitely give them a go! By the way, I'm continuously astounded by your daughters adventures. She must be a brave girl to stay in the water with a great white leaping out of the water. You both sound like you have a great affinity with the ocean.
  9. Wow he looks really thick and healthy. Well done on the release too!!
  10. Hi JonD, I recently bought a couple of the same xrap lures which you have pictured above. These are not the xxx-rap models (as per packaging above they are xrap). The sales guy at the boating camping store reckoned they weren't really for trolling, but I didn't really take much notice of him just because it was a boating camping store. Are these lures good for trolling (I intend using them from an electric motored yak)? Or should I be looking at the Rapala CD's as mentioned by bojulabah or some xrap magnums 15/20/30 which dive a little deeper? Cheers, Undy

  12. Thanks Luke and JD for your advice. Still considering all your recommendations. Will keep you posted on how I go.
  13. Hi Jewhunter, No worries at all, all these names can get rather confusing. I did see your Crosscast rod as part of a Daiwa combo. Certainly feels whippy for a 10-20kg rod! Still can't seem to locate one sold as rod only. Thanks, Undy
  14. Hi Mike, Just wondering what model BG you ended up getting and how the setup has been performing. I am interested in a similar setup and I've heard some good things about the Crucis 10' 6-8kg. Is it ok for flicking plastics, hardbodies and bait rigs to 3 or maybe 4oz? Not too much about this rod on the net. Cheers, Undy
  15. Hi Jewhunter, I can't seem to locate an 11' 10-20kg model. Maybe they aren't made anymore. There is a 12' 7-15kg model and a lighter 12' 3-6kg model. When you say your rod casts big plastics a mile, are you talking about plastics such as 11" Slapstix and Jerk Shads and the like? What size jigheads do you have on these to launch them a long way? Sounds ideal to me as I would like to flick plastics and also baitfish in the surf with this rod. Could be that the 12' 7-15kg may be just right for my needs.
  16. Hi Jewhunter, Are you referring to the 10'6 3-5kg Crossfire? Just wondering how this would go as a bait rod too e.g to cast #2 or #3 star sinkers + ganged pillies off the beach. Undy
  17. Thanks for the tips Luke. I will certainly check out the Penn and Pflueger. There seems to be a Salt and a Salt 2. Seems the Salt can be cheaper in some places if they are trying to clear them. Not really sure what the difference is. Which do you have? The Nasci can be had for $134 currently but I haven't heard much about them and they don't have the pedigree of the Spinfisher and Salt etc. It is certainly much lighter in weight and not sure how it will handle the rough conditions. Also, which of the Triton models are you using and for what purpose? I don't fish much from the rocks but I do some beach fishing, so a 9'+ rod is definitely a good idea.
  18. Kmart chatswood definitely sells nets - not sure if they are long enough for your needs. you should check them out before spending more on the net than your $30 spin outfit.
  19. Good to see you getting into some bream Dave!

    Nambucca River

Hi Dave, luderick-angler, Thanks for sharing your local knowledge of the Nambucca area. Firstly, what an absolutely beautiful part of the world you live in! I managed a late arvo paddle riverside with my son and we were blessed with the company of a pair of dolphins at the V with the setting sun and beach as a backdrop. The dolphins were not more than a few metres away much to our delight. After an encounter like that, catching a fish was only going to be a bonus. We went about a km upstream, past the emergency rescue shed but low tide meant we were bottoming out the yak and dragging it through the flats. Caught a few yakkas which took my bream hardbodies but not much else was biting except the mossies. We fished the wall at the V ocean side at high tide with sps. A kingfish which must a vecbeen about 75cm was swimming back and forth along the wall Te a single all the fisher,an but not taking anyone's line and ignoring our unweighted white Slapstix. If only I had some squid! Anyway, it was a beautiful evening and a lovely location to drop a line although we didn't catch anything. We have some great memories of the dolphins breaching nearby our kayak whenever we think of Nambucca. cheers, Undy
  21. Hi Luke, I don't really have a suitable setup at the moment to target kings. Very confused at the moment as to what is most suitable for my needs. I fish mainly from a kayak and landbased. I'd like to have something that can be used for bait, flicking sps and hardbody casting/trolling xraps - if such a thing exists. I'd prefer something where I'd still have some fun with the rats while not getting totally smashed by 75-80cm models. Looking at a Socorro 6000 or 8000 (10kg v 12kg drag) with a Triton 6-10kg 7'6 combo on sale currently at blah blah blah. Maybe 20-30kg braid. Leader depends on where I'm fishing. Also considering a Nasci 5000 (11kg drag) which is much lighter in the hand, or Daiwa Bg 4500 (10kg drag). As you can see, not too sure, but feel free to advise if you have any thoughts on these. 22. Hi flatheadluke, Just wondering how the new king setup went this summer. How has it handled the rats, bandits and hoodlums? Interested in your opinion after using it for a couple of months. Cheers, Undy
  23. Could someone add: Grunter? Trag?
  24. Hi Raiders, Staying at a caravan park at mouth of Nambucca River. Intend to fish the 12 midnight high tide tonight landbased. I have some slapstix and other sps, hard bodies, yakka (fresh but not live). Any tips for fishing this area would be greatly appreciated. I may have the use of a kayak tomorrow morning too so if there are some productive spots near the mouth, please let me know. Thanks in advance, undy
  25. Hi Cargo, damned if I can tie an FG! Slim beauty is what I normally use. Interested how you find the Itchy Twitchy and Wild Weasel at casting light lures similar to the ones I've listed. How do they cope when you catch some of the larger species?
