  2. Guys, Did you manaage to catch the SUNDAY show on Channel 9 this morning? Have a look if you didn't. Attached below is the video link of the GNS video from the SUNDAY program today. To view the video click on the link below, then click onto "Sunday" and then click onto "Grey Nurse Shark: brink of extinction" http://ninemsn.video.msn.com/v/en-au/v.htm...p;mediaid=77683 Very good information, something that the underwateros have been telling us for years. It is going to be an interesting few weeks for NSW Fisheries! Cheers Stan
  3. Rocks taste good with Chilli! I am sure that there are a few Pacific Island recipies out there that would be great to taste, things like lime, lemon and ginger are made for the humble salmon.
  4. My Response to the NSW Daily Telegraph today, suggest you all try the salmon recipe at leasty once. Cheers Stan AUSSIE ANGLERS DO NOT REJECT AUSTRALIAN SALMON JOHN "STINKER " CLARKE GETS IT WRONG Australian Salmon are not the pest Mr Clarke is making them out to be, rather he is one of the few anglers who has the ability to target other more desirable species like Mulloway and Snapper, for the other novice, elderly or younger anglers , these salmon are a bonus recreational anglers are cashing in on. No one is surprised that after removing the commercial effort the Salmon are making a comeback, and I would rather have a great white eat a salmon off Stockton Beach rather than a swimmer. With most of the commercial fishing stocks at the point of collapse, it is not surprising that the commercial anglers want back into a market they have been kicked out of. Our local tackle shops are riding the salmons backs in a wave of fishing tackle sales, fishing licences are being purchased and most people can now go out and catch a fish or two for dinner. After selling our salmon for bait and catfood, the commercial industry now wants to export them to Asia, what do we get in return, Mekong Catfish. Australian salmon are a great table fish. 15 years ago no one was eating Yellowfin Tuna until our Asian neighbours showed us how, 15 years ago no one was eating baby Octopus or Squid, until our Mediterranean mates showed us how, now we want to send our Salmon over so our SE Asian neighbours can show us how. I have gone one better, following is the best Salmon Fish Cake recipe I have tried, my Singaporean mate passed this one on. Australian Salmon Fish Cakes 1 clove garlic 1/2cm piece ginger 1/4 large red capsicum 2 tbs sweet chilli sauce 300gm salmon (roughly cut) 50ml coconut cream (not milk!) salt 1 egg 3 spring onions 1/3 cup coriander leaves plain flour vegetable oil cucumber Process chopped garlic, ginger, capsicum, and sweet chilli sauce. Add chopped salmon, coconut cream and a pinch of salt, and process. Add egg and process again. Place in a bowl Finely chop the spring onions and coriander leaves, and mix with the fish mixture. Place in the fridge for 2 hrs to firm up. Form patties and lightly dust with flour and shallow fry in a oiled pan. Drain on kitchen paper Serve with Jasmine rice topped with a sprinkle of fresh coriander leaves and decorate plate with sliced cucumber. Once again commercial interests see $$$ and that's it, another species to exploit. I have visited the tackle shops and seen what money is being generated by these 'pests', I have taken my nephews and mates out fishing, and yes we have caught a few salmon, they have saved many a fishing day. I hope that the Minister sticks to his undertaking at lets the full 3 years of research be completed before we make an educated decision on how best to manage this fishery. As a club, we spend thousands of dollars visiting places like Narooma to fish for Salmon with our kids, nieces, nephews, wives and club members. I am no scientist, but it is quite obvious to see, no commercial fishing effort and our fish stocks make a recovery. What gets up my nose is that we are happy to export them and import the rubbish from overseas. My final tip, go and catch a salmon, ice it down, bleed it like you should all fish and try my recipe. If I can stop one family going to the fish shop and buying a piece of Mekong Catfish then I will be happy. Cheers Stan Konstantaras Australian National #####ing Association - NSW Branch President
  5. The only problem is that the Greens have not handed over all their prefernces to the Labor Party as part of the deal for bulldozing the Marine Parks in before the election. So who can you trust. Definatley not the Greens! If we had some more research before the the marine parks went in and a committment for more research once they went in, many anglers would not have such a jaded veiw of the Greens and the whole NSW Political Marine Park process that the Greens and Labor party blessed us with. LOL
  6. Labour Party Response to AAG re: recreational fishing in NSW Mr Phillip Ingram President Anglers Action Group PO Box 630 NARRABEEN NSW 2101 Dear Mr Ingram, Thank you for providing the Australian Labor Party (ALP) with the opportunity to outline our policy position on recreational fishing. The Government wants to see the continuation of quality recreational fishing opportunities for the almost one million people who go recreational fishing each year. We established 30 recreational fishing havens to provide fair and equitable access for recreational anglers. The Iemma Government will continue to work constructively with the Advisory Council on Recreational Fishing, as we have through the development of the two most recent marine parks along the NSW coast, as well as receiving advice from the expenditure committees on how to best use licence fees to benefit all anglers in NSW. The Iemma NSW Government is currently negotiating more complimentary management arrangements with the Commonwealth, especially with regard to fair and reasonable access for the people of NSW. The severe ongoing drought in NSW has seen many challenges, with decreased flows known to affect fish production in estuaries, and reduced levels in inland rivers and impoundments limiting opportunities for enhancement programs such as fish stocking. Even through these times, the Government has continued to stock waterways with fish and to work with recreational fishers to ensure this popular pastime continues on for current and future generations. Once again, thank you for providing the ALP with an opportunity to outline its policy position on this matter.
  7. Hi Guys, We need help from the recreational fishing community of NSW to secure a better deal for recreational boaters and anglers of NSW than the one being offered by Sydney Ports Corporation in relation to the Port Botany Expansion. All of the relevant documents that catalogue our disappointment with the process can be found via the link http://www.ansansw.com.au/HotTopics.html I would appreciate it if you could take the time to read them and if so inclined support my anglers in securing a better deal than the one being offered by SPC. The following are the issues I would like to see support on include; 1. A guarantee that further community consultation will occur on the design of the new boat ramp facility. 2. A guarantee that as a minimum 130 car and trailer space will be retained as dedicated parking. 3. A new carpark will be built to accommodate Foreshore Beach users. 4. A fishing platform will be provided at the new boat ramp facility. 5. A guarantee that both parties will work together to enhance recreational fishing in and around the Bay. 6. That appropriate community compensation be paid for the loss of 60 ha of Botany Bay, either in the way of a new ramp or an additional fishing platform in the area. We are not against the Port expansion, just want a better deal for having this on our back doorstep and having our ramp, 60 ha of Botany Bay taken away and another approx 60 ha of exclusion zones. All this in our Recreational Fishing Haven. We feel that the problems are easily fixed and will not cost much in terms of the overall cost of the Port expansion to NSW taxpayers. We have been fighting this battle for a while now and only last week met with representatives from our Port Ministers office, but we need more pressue applied - visit the link http://www.ansansw.com.au/HotTopics.html make up your own mind if we are getting a fair deal and send a letter, email or call the people responsible for the Port Expansion and express your dissapointment. We have been involved in the process for many years and after many years of promises from SPC, we have been shut out of the final planning stages. You will get a public carpark on Foreshore Rd, with a boatramp as an afterthought if you do not act now. 8. Hi Guys, ANSA NSW is working closely with a few other groups in NSW to try to pin down policies from all political parties prtior to the NSW election. The Anglers Action Group is one group we work with, attached is their feedback to date. One week out from the election we shoudl have a definitive answer where rec fishing sits with these political parties to pass onto you guys for you to digest prior to voting. I notice that Robert Smith from the Fishing Party has his info up which is good to see, we will endevour to get the rest as soon as possible. Cheers Stan Konstantaras ANSA NSW President Anglers Action Group Media Release: 5th March 2007. For Immediate Release: Political parties snub recreational fishers With political commentators and even internal Labor polling hinting at the possibility of a hung parliament following the March State election if Labor loses 8 seats one would expect that NSW Labor would jump at the opportunity to state what they would do for a group of over 900,000 voters, being the recreational fishers of NSW. But this is not the case. AAG had written to 5 political parties requesting they answer questions on six issues considered of importance to the recreational fishers of NSW. The issues were designed to be open ended to enable responses in any manner desired. The parties contacted were the NSW branches of Labor, Liberal, Australian Democrats, The Greens, Christian Democrats, and the Nationals. Issues included the vision for recreational fishing in NSW, what is seen as the best structure to represent the interests of recreational fishers, reducing the apparent conflict between recreational and commercial fishers, plus environmental issues. Replies were received from The Greens, Liberals/Nationals and one independent, Steven Pringle, member for Hawkesbury. The replies, without comment or favor, have been distributed to recreational fishing organisations. AAG president Phil Ingram said "For the voting public to make proper and informed decisions on how to vote, the political parties need to get the information out there. Admittedly, to many people recreational fishing is just a past time but it is not without issues. Recreational fishers are a group of nearly one million voters, and the replies may help recreational fishers decide which way to vote. AAG finds the lack of responses from three of the political parties, including one of the majors, a bit disconcerting - and it suggests to us that these parties don't place recreational fishing on their political radar." If recreational fishers are being ignored by political parties then a possible explanation is that the campaigns are based on maintaining seats they wish to hold and those they consider they might win, in an attempt to gain majority in the Legislative Assembly, and hence win Government. But what of the upper house - this does not explain the lack of recognition to one large group of the voting public by the parties that didn't respond. And if recreational fishers are ignored by any political party, then presumably they would also ignore other sectors of the community such as other sporting bodies. Phil goes on to say: "With recent polling predicting Labor to win Government, why are they ignoring the voting public in this way – could it be a case carry on as usual if they win Government? And what of Labor’s internal polling that shows Labor may lose 5 marginal seats with another 2 in doubt? If the possibility that Labor needs to form a minority Government comes to fruition then they only have themselves to blame." Contact: Phil Ingram 0431 650 996
