  1. Yep. Good point. dunno if i have enough transducer cable to re route it away from the main harness..but i will give this a shot!
  2. Thanks bud, i am still working through the issue! i have radio on separate circuit, but i think u raise a good point here...not to assume that the original harness is correctly installed etc... thats gold. Thanks heaps!
  3. So..i fitted inline ferrite things to power and transducer cables..no change...took my handheld on board, it too picked up the interference especially when switching from 50 to 200khz. I am Testing on the hard using weather channel to monitor..time for a marine tech methinks?! thanks for your help everyone.
  4. No luck as yet mate, weather has been so shit here, havent been game to get into boat electrics! i had a guy come round to check it out, we set the vhf to weather channel then disconnected the transducer cable, followed by the power cable from the lowrance, as he tipped the unti up and disconncted the cable, we could hear the interference caused straight away..i am going to jaycar tomorrow to chck out the ferrite rings...first step anyway...
  5. Thanks bud, will look at the ferrite thing..for sure. Cheers
  6. Cool, will have to look into this, I thought the cables were shielded from factory.
  7. I have a lowrance hook 7, when i have the sounder-transducer on 200khz or high chirp, I get a very heavy buzzing thru any vhf channel i am monitoring or using, i have to change to 'maps' or turn the whole unit off to even broadcast... Radio is on its own seperate power source (seperate battery), aerial lead is away from electrics, and i have tested a new power cable, which made no difference. Radio is over 1 m away from aerial. Aerial has been checked for seals etc and is ok. If i switch to 50khz, then the buzzing stops....has anyone had experience with similar issues or have a possible solution? driving me crazy! TIA. 8. Good advice given here already i reckon, i had similar issues with my quintrex 5m cuddy when i first bought it. It sprayed from both sides of the motor..I loaded it to my specs with gear etc, took her out and did some turns at speed..on a calm day..and got some cavitation. We lowered the donk, which sorted the cavitation, then becuase i was getting high rpm with less speed (like you!) i got solas to check the prop...the bush was shot and they re-cupped the blades. Shes sweet as now, i fitted a foil too. I still get spray when the donk is fully down, but this reduces when trimmed out, so i dont worry about it. Hope this helps bud.
  9. Fellas, i'm buying the boat. Hell...i can always sell the motor later on! Gotta say big up to you all for your awesome feedback.ripper mateys. Uru
  10. Probably the first time I'll ever say this then...'lucky I'm in NZ'.......! Water police...OMG......They dont even need a licence over here...you can imagine the carnage on the working channels!
  11. Good info mate. I have seen 90's two stroke on the back of these too. Cheers!
  12. Yeah mate, its lifejacket on in my boat. No matter what.
  13. Might have to put the wife on a diet......judging by this! awesome feedback, thanks fellas
  14. Yep, this all helps. Thanks. I think the answer is to sea trial the wee beastie, take 2 x 100l eskies, trial her solo or 2 up, then fill the eskies with water and see how she fares. Onya.
  15. Motor is 2002. Hull is probably similar, millenium hull. I personally reckon it will struggle with two teenagers, self plus wife...plus a bit of gear...thanks for input so far. I seen the 475 spirit with a 75hp, seemed like a better option. Cheers.
  16. Hi. I am looking at a quintrex bay ranger caprice, 475 cuddy cabin. The seller has a four stroke efi 60 hp mercury on the back. Do u guys think this is a little underpowered..or is it kosher?! I am not blue water fishing but like to get to the 40 metre mark and often come home in 15 knots plus. Any feedback will be much appreciated!
