  1. Hi Gents

Looking at re spooling my 2500 size reels with some new braid.

I am looking at 6lb and 10lb Braid.

I have used Berkley fireline, whiplash and Fins and want to try something else.

Purpose is for flatties, bass as well as snapper etc....

(Some may say 2500 is a little small for snapper and deeper water but at present i am quite happy to stick withem)

Looking for a fluro coloured braid.

Also interested in any brands in this line class that are multi couloured like the jigging braid.

(I am prepared to order from OS)

Anyone had any experience with the Palatypus sinking Braid?

    Cheers

    Luke

I've only used FINS and TUF XP .. havent had any major issues with either

  2. Headed out on Saturday morning with skunga for a lazy day of fishing. Took out a mate of skungas who is only just getting into fishing so the plan was to hopefully put him onto a king or two.

Hit the water at drummoyne at 7am with the high at 7:45. Stopped off at some markers on the way out to flick some plastics for no luck at all.

Got to Clarke island about 8ish and dropped the pick and threw out some burley in the hope of some yakkas or slimeys ... within the hour we had over half a dozen yakkas and a good deal of fun for our new fisho so we then decied to head a few kms offshore and try some marks with the yakkas.

All we proceeded in doing was finding the pesky leatheries so after an hour or so we decided to head back inside trolling some skirts .. no luck there either.

Anchored up at 1 or two other spots for nothing of interest and with it getting towards midday we decied to start heading back in.

Whilst we had stopped off at a marker for a flick skunga notices a small patch of birds workin the surface .. so we shoot on over only to have the school disappear just before we get there .. not to matter though ... within a few casts i hooked onto a nice hood which just fell short of the 70cm mark (pic attached).

Was caught on my new outfit (Daiwa advatage 1 piece 8-14lbs rod, Daiwa Advantage 4000 reel loaded with 30lb FINS PRT in green and topped with 40lb black magik leader) which handled it like a dream ... so i was stoked :yahoo:

oh yea and not long after skunga also hooked onto a hood which was landed at about 73cm, he tried to hand it over to his mate to have a play with, but good on him, he wouldnt have a bar of it as he wants to hook one on his own.

All in all another great days fishing

  3. Gday raiders,

What do you all use for storing your sinkers? Particularly the larger ones.

Got sick of my Tackle box (plano 7771) weighing a tonne due to all the sinkers init so i bought one of those plano snaplock containers .. but the big sinkers knock out all the dividers (thus mixing them all up) when out in the boat.

  4. Gday moses .. get your friend to check out this link if he wants to stock his dam

Stocking fish in farm dams (Primefact 89)

This guide is for stocking fish for angling and domestic consumption on private property only. Commercial fish farming (aquaculture) is a specialised venture needing thorough investigation of the technology and economics, and requires a permit from NSW DPI (which has literature on fish and crayfish farming). Stocking of fish into public waters (including creeks, rivers and impoundments) requires a special NSW DPI permit.

  5. Many years back we caught a similar fish wide of Sydney around an offshore FAD.

We brought it in for identification, and the good Dr Julian P identified it as "uraspis uraspis", which is of the same family to this recent catch.

I cannot remember much about it's set of dentures, but do remember it fought well on light gear, and had an amazingly thick coating of mucous/slime on it.

    Cheers,

    Bob.

I Think your spot on gambit - check this link

    Uraspis Uraspis

Supposed to be caught in northern Australia - Global warming here we come :)

  6. nice work. never been for kingies but planning to this year (hopefully) and can't wait to bag my first kingie!!

If your anything like me .. when you do get your first it'll be hard to go back to chasing bream n flatties etc .. well not that hard really ;) but u get my drift :1fishing1:

  7. Do we care if a kangaroo abandons its baby ... hell no ... its nature and nature was never meant to be fair!

We shoulda sent a quick msg to the PM of japan asking if they wanted some veal ;)

  8. Likewise .. Big thanks to Bob n Harry .. get to hear about some of the work they've done and you'll have no doubt like me that they are bloody legends ... if only the world was full of blokes like these two ;)

And thanks to Donna and Stewy (aka fishraider) for organising it all for us

  9. I've fished for ages and consider myself a fairly competent fisho (at best) but i've never tried fly fishing as yet so i cant help too much.

My suggestion as a first start for something like fly fishing would be to go out with a guide or charter and get them to show you the ropes ... or if ur on a budget and super keen go down to your local tackle shop and have a chat with them, they'll be able to set you up with basic gear to start off and if u have a backyard you can always practice casting flies there, or ur local park.

Then u just gotta get out there and start fishing

edit - or check ur area for fly fishing clubs

  10. Dont know about offshore but I mainly use Tuflin XP (50lb yellow) and FINS PRT (30lb green) mainly for kingy fishing in sydney harbour and both work fine for me.

Most bust offs for me occur due to frayed leaders. and the occasional knot failure when i do slack ass uni to uni knots .... that reminds me, have to practice the alberto knot

  11. Just took out one of the yakkas that i caught last week as it was lying on its side at the bottom of the tank.

Gave him a spike in the brain and threw him in the freezer for bait.

2 yakkas left, 1 i caught last week and 1 i caught on saturday.

For a tank my size i reckon 3 yakkas will last a week without changing the water without too many problems at all.

  12. Yesterday arvo when i got home one was half dead - floating upside down on the bottom - looked like he had a fungal or bacterial infection, redness around the tail etc

The other 3 were fine and i took them out for a fish this morning .. as you'd expect though i had one out all day under a float for not even a touch thats :1fishing1:

bought 3 home this time, 2 of them were the ones i had caught last week so interesting to see if they last another week.

did find some fresh ones while i was out but most of em were absoute horses .. one of em was the biggest yakka i have seen by far so spongy took that one home to try for eating

  13. If you fed them prawn and thy are imported don't put them back in the waterways. There is a huge concern about introducing disease into out waterways from imported prawns. This is why no fishing bait prawns are imported into Australia. When the experiment is over - on the compost heap not back into our waterways.

Yea im aware of that and its all good, i've got some frozen hawkesbury school prawns i bought from the fish markets ... just tried giving them some tiny pieces which they werent interested in, however theres a fair bit of flow in the tank so the pieces flew past em and were on the bottom in a matter of seconds.

Will try some again on the weekend, they still look fine tho :biggrin2:

Think i might turn the 2nd pump off next time i feed em as well

    Tank Size = 2ft Wide, 1ft Deep, 15inches high
