  1. how would we know i we've hit a school of tailor? will you see them near the surface or do they disturb the water? we've got some minnow type lures that dive to different depths and a couple of tassie devils but haven't really tried them yet
  2. Hi fellow raiders. We just bought a new boat, a 4.6m half cab with 70hp Johnson on the back. On our first trip out we made the ultimate mistake and forgot the bloody bungs! In the mad scramble to get it back on the trailer the transducer for the sounder has come off...... It was just screwed onto a piece of wood which then seemed to be stuck to the hull with some sort of double sided tape or something (see below) - I was wondering what the best type of marine adhesive would be to stick it back onto the hull? Also, the contacts on the battery look a tad corroded and the wiring in general looks a bit dodgy, plus none of the running lights are connected so I was hoping someone could recommend a decent marine electrician or fitout place who could help with fixing up the wiring plus maybe adding a fuse & switch panel for the lights and any other goodies I might want to add? Thanks for your help in advance as I'm sure this post will be the first of many! Sent from my D6653 using Tapatalk
  3. Thanks PistolPete! I might need to look into our Hook sizes as well. we've got a couple of those little boxes you get at Big W with a bunch of different sizes in them but no idea if they're the right size for estuary fishing or not. I remember when I was a kid we used to use about size 2/0 hooks for big Bream but maybe we're better off with something a bit smaller that leather jackets & whiting might go for as well....... We've got squid jigs so jigging barrenjoey and the weed beds/sand flats behind palm beach was actually on the cards for our next trip out probably weekend after next. Drifting patonga sounds like a good plan as well. On Sunday we started about 2hrs before low tide and fished right through the change till about 11:30, so might the last of the change before high tide
  4. Hi raiders Just bought a 4.6m half cab w/ 70hp Johnson outboard. Used to fish the hawkesbury for bream, flatties & hairttail as a kid, but am now VERY rusty. Would love if someone experienced could show me and the missus a few pointers, we're free most weekends and happy to supply bait n fuel in return? Sent from my D6653 using Tapatalk
  5. Hi all, Just bought a boat, our first for the family, and took it out for its first runs this weekend. Friday we launched at 6am from apple tree Bay. First up drifted from flint n steel to hungry beach a bunch of times but barely a bite. The headed over to the eastern side of Juno point and fished about 2hrs but still nothing doing. Sick of all the wash from the cruisers by this stage so headed back into Cowan Creek for lunch and a swim, then onto pinto Bay where the wife caught a blue swimmer crab (if that even counts, it just refused to let go of her bait!) A shame we didn't catch our dinner but still had a lovely day on the water Today we went out again launched at parsley Bay about 7am and headed up to the vines, but nothing doing other than the missus catching a catfish. Gave up 2 has later and spent an hour drifting round either side of milson Island before heading to the road bridge but no bites there either. Kids were super bored by that stage so went down to possum beach for lunch and a swim before calling it a day. Again disappointing that we didn't catch anything or get many bites but as they say a bad day on the water is better than a good day at work! Sent from my D6653 using Tapatalk

  7. Hi everyone, I'm new to the site so please bear with me.............. My wife and I just bought a boat, 4.6m half cab w/ 70hp Johnson on the back. We're planning to take it out for i's first run this Saturday 3/10 bright & early. Looks to be high tide around 7am with low wind & swell, so I was wondering what spots people might recommend for the run out tide? Mostly interested in targeting bream & flaties at this stage as we don't have the gear yet for bigger prey like jewies. I was thinking of heading up to the vines as I'd fished there with my dad heaps of times as a kid then maybe drifting milson island after for flaties if it's quiet. Otherwise I thought maybe off the point east of the railbridge or maybe east of Juno Point? I have charts of the whole hawkesbury region so go nuts with place names! Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also any recommendations on bait and a good bait shop either round the ryde area or round bobbin head as I plan to launch at apple tree bay (it's a big ramp there and protected which I figure is best since I haven't launched a boat for 15 years or so since I was a kid) - was thinking a mix of prawns, fresh squid and maybe pillies thanks all!
