  1. Hey Andy, You'll find that most of the time the more expensive jigs will outfish cheaper jigs, I believe this just comes down to that they sink on a slight angle and dart well when worked, very similar to an actual prawn. The cheaper jigs generally don't impart as good of an action, though I've found if the squid are around and in a feeding frenzy they will take anything you throw at them. If squiding from the rocks you might also want to try a small bait fish such as a yellowtail or pilchard thrown onto a barb under a squid float (you'll see these as shiny floats with mirror like patterns). I've caught some XXL squid doing so.While that's floating around, flick a jig around! Joe
  2. Was fishing out at birkenhead point on the little wharf there right under the bridge, had a steady flow of burley going and swarms of garfish came through until some very large mullet came and decided to start taking our bread baits. I'd burley up and see if you get some come in Joe
  3. Nothing wrong with catching a few tailor, actually a very underrated fish to eat when cooked right. Cold smoked and there are beautiful!
  4. Hey mate,I wouldn't say there are any real 'secret' spots on where to find kingifsh, though some areas might prove to have kingfish frequent them more often. What would be a good idea is to understand why king fish would be in that area in the first place. More often then not they are out searching for a feed, so looking for areas that are likely to hold baitfish might be well worth a shot of trying for kingies. These areas, can include wharves, rockwalls, or even moorings. Baitfish congregate in the areas for protection and fish such as kingies are there for the hunt. Some people believe you need to fish deep water too, but I've seen kingies swim into the shallows at clifton gardens in no more than a meter of water chasing baitfish or hovring over shallow kelp beds in search for some squid. Some guys have mentioned a few spots and I've seen kingies caught at pier 2, balmoral and clifton,. These areas do get very crowded, so might be worth a shot going for a drive one weekend and looking for areas that might hold baitfish and have access to deeper water. Good luck Joe
  5. Hi Will,if you want to anchor up and berley.Try catching some fresh squid and use the squid in strips and the head on it's own in your berley trail unweighted or as lightly waited as possible.if the kings are around chances are they wont pass up on eating some fresh squid strips.good luck!
  6. Will most likely see you ,most free weekends I'll be somewhere fishing:-) if you see a guy with a black snyder and small centrepin that's me going for blackfish
  7. Well done on the fish mate!! Just a tip for the next time you're up there. Fish the breakwall just before it slightly bends (just before the footpath starts) on the open water side. Weed generally will see you get into more blackfish than cabbage. Fish on a rising tide and burley up with some sand and weed, you should land a few blackfish and if you're lucky you will get smashed by a few decent drummer that frequent the wall. Cheers Joe
  8. Hey Neil, definitely do my best to bag a few fish off the rocks, some times it requires long walks and climbing but it's all worth it:-) look forward to chatting. Good luck mate
  9. Haha you found me Joe. Do I have a tendency to pull a fish from somehwere to save the day, just wish it happened more often!
  10. Hi Pete, nice to meet you . There are definitely some fish to be caught from the stones! I haven't fished Port Macquarie, but I'd expect the breakwall to produce jewfish and your usual suspects such as bream and flathead.might even be worth having a shot at some blackfish!! Ps that wouldn't have been me mate
  11. Cheers for the introduction Nathan. Maybe one day I can take you out on the rocks and show you Good luck with the fishing!
  12. Hi everyone, I've spent a fairly long time lurking on fishraider and have decided damm i'm missing out on chatting to the guys on here, so I've signed up Bit about myself, I'm a through and through rock fisherman with many years of experience on the stones. I've chased kings and jews from the rocks, spun for bonnies but can't go past wash wishing for the likes of blackfish, drummer (as my name suggests i love these fish) and the good old big groper. Usual haunts are from Sydney Northern beaches up to the central coast. I've also owned a boat for a about a year now and learning the ropes still. Looking forward to chatting to everyone. Cheers Joe
