  1. Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anyone can please tell me if it will matter if I disconnect my cable brakes from my trailer.

I've chewed a bearing yesterday and the end of the axle has a decent sized gouge in it just towards the end where the castle nut screws on. I dare say it wouldn't interfere with the nut nor the bearing but I guess I don't know for sure. I don't use the brakes as it is now (even though they are currently connected) so was wondering if I could legally take them off so I can get myself a new axle without having to have the plates welded on for the brake pads.

    Thanks

    Geoff

Geoff. Measure the axle from end of thread to end of thread IF it's 5'10" ( 1780mm ) I have one here with brake brackets welded on you can have, 50mm square solid axle.

If it's the right length I could bring it up for you and have that BBQ we spoke about some time ago.

You should have my email, let me know.

I am not fit enough these days to fit it for you but I could at least supply the axle ( free of charge ) .

  2. Fab1 sounds like the way to go to have a #1 day for your birthday, congrats on the catch and well done for

sharing your catch with one not as successful as yourself.

That bloke will remember your good will and perhas do the same one day for someone and snowballs from there.

  3. Not a lot to report unfortunately.

Arrived 10am Friday and the weather was on the turn, by 12 noon it was blowing 40 knots by 2pm the rain had joined the wind and it was coming in sideways straight across the lake which was churning it to a state where a surf board was more appropriate than a fishing line.

The rain only lasted about 1 hour but the wind was relentless and lasted well into the night, I didn't even bother to pitch the tent, just slept in the back of the wagon.

Saturday morning the wind had slowed down to about 10-15 knots, there was still whitecaps in the lake but it was settling down.

By 4pm it was calm enough to launch the boat and go fishing.

Might as well kept the boat on the trailer, by 6.30 the wind was up again about 25 knots and that was it for me, slowly pushed back to the camp site and prepared tea.

Didn't bother going out again, put the boat back on the trailer and headed home.

All in all I will remain doing this trip as the company is worth it. Just might leave the boat home next time and just sit back and enjoy the view.

  4. I will probably join you lot this year and get to meet some of you.

I am going up for the week end of 17th 18th and 19 June on a houseboat with some friends

so maybe able to post a report if anything about or not.

I fish for Hairtail every year for the past 40 odd years the past 11 years in Houseboat before that I

would freeze in an open boat, sometimes lucky sometimes not.

Hope this year is a good as last year was.
