  1. It's a combo of the smell plus the incident at the Coogee Bay Hotel where someone found poo in their ice cream or something. http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/human-excrement-found-in-free-gelato/2008/10/25/1224351608023.html
  2. Got a tip from a guy while squidding today that the Jewies are in the Para up around Gladesville/Drummoyne. He was collecting bait for the big tide tomorrow night. Just throwing it out there in case someone is chasing silver dreams.

  4. Here's a video of the day if anyone is interested.
  5. Certainly a mouth-watering box you have there. Hmm... That doesn't sounds quite right.
  6. Sounds like the perfect way to chase kings. I see a bunch of vids with guys using 80lb and just muscling them aboard. This sounds like way more fun.
  7. It depends on the material used in the drag. http://www.thereeltech.com/blog/2012/07/14/drags-wet-dry/ Easiest way to find out is take it apart. Drags are easy. The inside of most reels are pretty easy too if you have patience and a pair of tweezers.
  8. they really are a beautiful fish aren't they. I love the eyes on luderick.
  9. mate, people take surfboards onto the bus. A 10' rod is not a problem. I looked at the life preserver rules the other day. Randwick is one of the councils trialing the new rules but only in areas deemed "high risk" like Juliennes etc. They have a fact sheet on the DPI website somewhere.
  10. I normally fish Gordons Bbay myself as I find it easier to escape the swell there. It feels a bit safer, more protected. I've caught mac tuna, rats, bream, wrasse, eels, garfish, all sorts there. It's just a matter of timing. It's chocka block with squid and cuttles too usually. Otherwise, the northern point at Clovelly is very popular. Plus I reckon there would be a tonne of good spots between Coogee and Maroubra. There are no fish in the videos below but you can see the spots I fish.
  11. I told him they were under size snapper. He just said "yeah I know." So he knew he was being a dick, just didnt care. Probably should have called fisheries but it was 6am...
  12. Went to Camp Cove this morning around 4am. Man it is nice out early in the morning. Threw squid jigs around the Eastern end of camp cove for about 30mins with no luck to moved to the Western side of Camp Cove and tried there for another 20 mins with no luck. Finally moved on to the Western side of Laings Point to target pelagics but decided to try again for squid, casting towards the private jetty at the very Western edge of the rock ledge. Got lucky with 2 very small cuttlefish, which is exactly what I was after as I was looking to get some live baits out that might be a good snack size for a king or tailor. I put two 3/0 circle hooks into the smallest one and tossed it out with a running float. But came up with nothing. Luck was on my side though. As I was rigging up I felt something %%%%%ing into my bum. I reach down and pulled a 25gr Surecatch Bishop out of the grass. Score! So I put that on my other rod and tossed it around for a little while. They're a nice chrome. A really realistic looking action when you get them darting around. One disappointing things was that one guy there was catching and killing tiny snapper. Like 15cm snapper. How is there even any meat there? If anyone's interested in seeing what it's like out there I'll be editing a video together over the next couple of days. I have a bunch of other vids I've put together already too but haven't posted them here as I've been going through a bit of a drought.
  13. Congrats on the PhD. Nice to know there is light at the end of the tunnel.
  14. I was talking to my brother about it and in some areas he reckons that there is a total ban in some places because some headlands are deemed emergency landing zones for helis in trouble... I don't have any definitive information I'm sorry. Guess I'm just mentioning it because I don't want anyone to get in trouble. We always go on about the fishing regs here but there are rules and regs for everything so definitely worth looking into.
  15. Be careful where you use it though. I know eastern suburbs of Sydney is all no-drone areas due to the heavy chopper traffic. The fines would be massive too because it's technically interfering with airspace safety and they take that stuff seriously.
  16. I've handled the new Aerowaves and they are nice. It made me seriously reconsider getting a daiwa sensor surf. they are that good.
  17. Thanks for the advice. I have another rod with some 15 lb on it and have some 10 lb laying around. I can put the 6 lb on my 2000 size bream outfit. So no real waste.
  18. yeah the rod is almost new and I baby it. One thing i noticed is that i flick sideways so I think maybe I'm flicking sideways along the guides instead of keeping forwards. If that makes sense.
  19. I have the leader long enough so that I can wind it on to the spool a couple of wraps. I guess I cast more of a flick style to use the rod, not a trebuchet fling. I actually have footage of the break offs. So can look back if needed.
  20. Hi guys, I'm hoping to figure out an issue I was having today while spinning off the rocks. I started off with a 15cm, 20gram hardbody and was throwing it quite hard to try and get some distance as the large profile was slowing it down. Then after a few cast I hear a twanging snap and the lure flies off into the water. I swam out and retrieved the lure and could see quite clearly that the mainline had broken just before the leader knot. At first I though, maybe the knot was just a bit worn as I hadn't retied a new leader for 3 trips now. So retied and kept going. Then while casting a 20gram metal another TWANG and off it goes. No swimming to get it this time though. After the first time I started keeping an eye on my leader knot to see if I could detect any weakening etc. I thought I saw some whitening of the mainline at the knot (using orange braid) but it was a little bit like that after tying the knot so don't know how reliable that is as an indicator. Especially since it is some cheapo brand. In my mind it could be one of a number of things: 1. Line slap on my rod as the know passes through the guides weakens the knot. I'm using a bait rod, not a spinning rod so thought it might be related to the guides or something. 2. 20grams could be too much weight for the line class i'm using and it can't hand the strong throws. I'm using 6 lb mainline with 8 lb leader. I used to fling 20gram lures all day with 6 lb but my old line was berkley fireline. 3. Just cheap braid. Maybe it is just shoddy braid. 4. Knot. Maybe I'm creating too much friction when tying the knot. My set-up is Rod: Shimano Bushy Bait Legends 742, 6-8kg and it has 9 guides on it Reel: Sedona 4000 Knot: FG knot all the way. I can't tie a reliable uni knot. I find they tend to slip on me. Any help would be appreciated. What do you guys think it is?
  21. I did end up heading out but didn't end up trying all the different rigs I wanted to. Went with a 1/8 jig head a but it was too heavy for Rodd Point. Tried an unweighted 1/0 bait hook too but the way I rigged it I wasn't happy with the action. and neither were the fish. I would definitely recommend Rodd Point on a high tide though. Tonnes of life around there at the moment. I spotted large mullet, gars, bream hiding around some boulders, little schools of shrimp and other bait fish and even crabs. If you know how to catch bream (unlike me) you will probably have some good fun.
  22. Some good options there. Should be getting out tomorrow to wet a line and I'll probably be trying a whole bunch of things.
  23. I actually have a few belly weighted twist lock worm hooks. But they're in a size 3/0 which are perfect for my 3" shrimps but think they will probably bee a bit small for the 2". When I head out this week I'll probably try a bunch of rigs anyway. Just testing the waters, so to speak.
