  1. No offense mate but it is that total lack of understanding of the species that will keep you from getting onto them like Oz does.

Do some research and spend some time on the water and it will all come together. I don't think people like Oz and Hookem and Dan and Greg were given these spots when they picked up thier boats from the dealer. They worked for them!

As I have said many times, fishing for kings is like hunting you need to actively seek them out to get results :biggrin2:

    Cheers Rob

Its a combination of sherlock holmes meets Zane Gray

with a little bit of instinct thrown in!

    ps

love the Mighty Boosh reference lol!

  2. This also could be th ole decoy post to get everyone

    into middle harbour..

when all the fish might have been caught in the main harbour :1prop:

the pic has clontarf in the background and theyre heading back in from main

    harbour :biggrin2:

so i reckin you all should hit the main harbour and NOT

    middle harbour!! :biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2::biggrin2:

  3. here we go , the ole spot x debate again

U need to put in a little effort to find your fish/bait,come on!!

Feels better in the long run doesnt it .Especially when you

discover a new spot, that produces ,all by yourself.

Getting given the name Sailors Bay Wreck is a BIG hint

as to where the spot is.Sailors Bay aint that big.

Alot of people wont even do that for you.

    Cheers Buddy

  4. thats a good sign

im sure the salmon chase the pillies so meybe were in

for a good salmon season this year

unlike the last season, which was average

i remember acres of them off north head

the sound of them as they came towards the boat was amazing

    heres hoping

  5. Sorry to hear about that mate.

I had a fool reverse his/her trailer into the front

of my ute at Tunks 6 weeks ago ,popped my front bumper

and left a huge dent in it with the imprint of a roller.

Didnt bother to leave a note or anything .... @$%&*$@ coward.

Now i have a $500 excess to pluck out of nowhere

so i know what it feels like.

  6. At my spot there were not many pickers yesterday surprisingly. Pinkies were not around.

Whilst fishing your spot earlier the raiders next to me took a phone call from ya Jase.

Got one hit and miss there but mate i was ready and loaded with 60lb braid this time.

    Mike

Man i wasted 3 good squid at that spot last sunday on

bream/pinkies/leatheries the terrible trio of pickers!!

Then turned one southern (.5kg) into 4 kings at that spot.

stripped it up into about ten baits and used single 5/0 hook rig.

still got pecked to pieces though.

Have you connected leader to your braid using the albright knot?

    Cheers mate

  7. Good result Mike. Good to see to another jew come out of Middle Harbour. I've got an idea that it might be worthwhile doing a full day session in Middle Harbour on whole squid bait for an all or nothing. I don't think there will be too many pickers around right now.

    Cheers

    jewgaffer :1fishing1:

Mate the pickers are raping the fresh squid in MH atm.

Well done on the Jew Mike a nice looking fish!

    Cheeers

    Jason

  8. Great report Jason! The double amberjack hook up is amazing. Well done!

That’s a great conversion rate for the squid you caught too. Did you only use squid?

It seems it was worth a cold early morning start.

    Cheers

    Peter

    Yep only squid

the first king came in on some week old frozen squid from last outting

i didnt want to waste the fresh stuff on pickers

it was after that i sent down a livie and all hell broke loose

most of the ambers were caught on live squid

  9. Gday fellow Raiders

    went for a fish today

managed 8 squid .........hard hard going

decided on my spot for the morning

and the first fish was a nice 67 king(esky)

    post-3896-1207271921_thumb.jpg

    i then landed and released a 61 cm model(released)

    then a 53 cm Amberjack(released)

Then these two came aboard(in the esky)

    post-3896-1207271984_thumb.jpg

i was fighting what i thought was a nice Amberjack and a CLOSE

FoLLoWeR.... i was thinking how good the "follower" was at

matching the other ambers circling and so on,

I then realised as they came to the surface they were

both hooked on my twin hook rig i use for the live squid ,

A first for me ,they even look like a pair to me

    I was gobsmacked

I then landed three more ambers(two kept 1 released)

    post-3896-1207272124_thumb.jpg

Then caught a really healthy 68 cm king which i

thought was going to be at least 80cm by the way it fought lol

    post-3896-1207272140_thumb.jpg

anyway it was sent back to grow a bit bigger

    great morning,bloody freezing

squid seem to be getting scarce(fished out?)

i dont know but definately schools of Amberjack in

    the Harbout ATM

    Cheers All

    Jason

  10. You are absolutely correct. I looked them up to make sure I did not make a mistake as I do not often catch them and after deciding it was a sampson fish I mistakenly called it an amberjack. The difference is the sampson fish is less torpedoe shaped and has a blunter forehead.

The amberjack also has a higher fin ray count.

    Thganks for correcting me.

    regards Saltrix

hahaha i did that on monday

confused an Amberjack with a Samson(i even spell it correctly now)

    easy to do

well done on the samson mate

    cheers jason

  11. Braved the conditions yesterday Good Friday and headed into Sydney Harbour.

The plan was to gather some squid then chase a few King fish.

Was met by 20 other boats around the spit gathering squid which made it very hard to target due to the boat traffic, we didnt manage any so we moved on to fish the tide change and have a bottom bash.

My bother and I DID NOT VENTUTRE to the usual locations in the harbour proper to chase kings due to the unfavourable weather conditions.

We managed about a dozen plate size bream fishing around middle harbour with one legal size flathead thrown in for good measure.

at least we didnt go home empty handed and had an easter feed of fish.

How did fellow Raiders fair? did you catch any Kingfish in the usual spots?

did you have to change your fishing plans to suit the conditions and what did you guys catch and bring home for dinner?

Happy and safe Easter fishing to all.

    TWIN 1

    Marcel.

Mate i think it was you two i was chatting to at around

11 just before we left the harbour,

My son landed a 72 cm king ... new pb for him

his mate landed a 68 and i landed a 65 took ages to get them

all on fresh or live squid(they went off as soon as the change came through)

Long hard day ,crap weather, but two happy young fishos(and me very relieved)

cheers boys good to meet you both
